Salaams to all.

I was instructed it's permissable based on the following narrations. This is a post I'm copying from another forum:

"(2) Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud: The Prophet of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) disliked ten things: Yellow colouring, meaning khaluq, dyeing grey hair, trailing the lower garment, wearing a gold signet-ring, a woman decking herself before people who are not within the prohibited degrees, throwing dice, using spells except with the Mu'awwidhatan, wearing amulets, withdrawing the penis before the semen is discharged, in the case of a woman who is wife or not a wife, and having intercourse with a woman who is suckling a child; but he did not declare them to be prohibited. (Book #34, Hadith #4210)

look at this example
Ruqya=incantations=magic
in this case Spells are okay but only with certain Quranic chapters!

these days, due to sectarian ignorance i'll hear people say things like 'there is no such thing as white/black magic, all of it is kufr' (usually backed up with some half baked story about some evil 'white magician').
basically 'only Quraaan and Soonaaah'(waahaabees)

(11) Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported I had a maternal uncle who treated the sting of the scorpion with the help of incantation. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) forbade incantation. He came to him and said: Allah's Messenger, you forbade to practise incantation, whereas I employ it for curing the sting of the scorpion, whereupon he said: He who amongst you is capable of employing it as a means to do good should do that. (Book #026, Hadith #5454)

that takes me to another point. We have an example where the Prophet SAW made a ruling on something he later revoked/added conditions to. Why? because he was questioned.

The Prophet SAW was personally questioned, but get this we cannot ever question hadith, otherwise we become kafir or at the very least munafiqs.

The Prophet SAW allowed incantations as long as they're GOOD, with no serious stipulation other than they do not contain shirk (another related hadith).

The Prophet SAW then used certain chapters as Ruqya. They call it Ruqya al Shariah.

Personally i think Taweez are useful but can very very easily be written in a way which masks the obvious shirk/kufr/evil in it.
in otherwords this taweez business is tricky......since the guys writing them are usually 1000% kafirs with muslim names and a muslim appearance. You'll be surprised how many well known pirs are working for the dark side.

Please ask the question clearly, you have simply given a statement.

I would also advise you that the answers should be looked for in either the Q&A section via the home page or here and check islamqa.org as many answers are already there.

There is also a Q&A on Ruqyah in the sites dedicated section as well as ample posts in the forums here.

السلام عليكم

Also to add there is a big Ikhtelaf on ta'weez and both are valid, some mufti kiraam vehemently oppose it and some say its valid as long as you know what it contains and the person writing it trustworthy etc

When searching you'll find fatwas for both arguments. I personally dislike taweez so I stick with the ulema who oppose it as I've seen more harm in it than good.

Please always post in the correct section. Categories are there for a reason and posting too many times in the wrong section increases our work to move it to the correct section. Doing this often could enable temporary restrictions on starting new topics.
