Bismillah.

As Salaamu Alaykum.

After years of resisting I recently got a smart phone.

With the smart phone I also got Whatsapp...!

Every other day or so I receive some message. About a calamity that has befallen some muslim, somewhere in the world.

Sometimes I receive the same message from several different people. Each one rushing to be the first to deliver the news.

The question I would like to know is what should be the proper response of a muslim when they hear bad news. ? What is the obligation?

What is the advice concerning spreading bad news that has befallen others..?

It seems to me that unwittingly this has become a form of daily entertainment for us. Without us being aware of it.

Your thoughts...?

In todays era where we cant even trust the established news channels, its unfortunate our people fell to this non sense videos which are made just to increase visits and earn more money.

Coming to spreading of sad news, i think its really not a good idea. The more negativity you hear or spread, the more negative thinking you become.

Help them financially if possible.

Prepare for the upcoming war and do whatever you can to establish khilafah.

Other then the Terrorist attacks in NewZealand.

In the last few weeks I have recieived messages and videos of young muslims being stabbed.

This morning I received several messages about masajid in Birmingham being attacked.

Also what is the ruling on forwarding such messages?
Other then creating a sense of pessimism I cannot see what purpose these serve?

The reason I am asking about this is not just for myself but also to share with others. So they are informed.

Few years back there used to be a trend of sharing information. Like spread this news to 100 people and something good will happen otherwise something bad may happen to you.

So people started to even take printouts/xerox of such information and started distributing them in masjid too.

So one day I was coming out of the masjid and at the same time a reliable Mufti was also coming out. One guy gave me the paper and I read it. I immediately handed over the paper to Mufti sahab and asked about what is the ruling on sharing this papers (though I already believed it was non sense)

Mufti sahab said (near to my remembrance), nothing is going to happen if you don't share it and I recommend to close this trend. These are not quran and hadith to take the spreading so seriously.

the real issue is we and i talk about myself first and foremost have become too desensitised to atrocities . when i saw the video of new zealadn first thing on fri morning ( woke up to tons of msgs related to it) it honestly had no affect on me at all. i felt maybe a little anger and upset that muslim blood had been spilt but thats it.

i grew up as a 6yo seeing pictures of kosovo, gulf war and ever since seen palestine, syria, afghanistan, kashmire on tv, newspapers, internet and now non stop vivid videos on whatsapp it not longer disturbs me. there was a time when a simple stabbing would have had people shocked and taken aback but now nothing seems to move people. even if a nuke was used it i probably would sleep like a baby the same night. reminds me of hadith about death becoming so common the killer and killed wont even know why they are killing or been killed.

ps watching movies and violent games dont help either. just makes u immune to these stuff. i think thats why when we hear about jahunnum our hearts remain hard as we seen all sorts of tortues and stuff on tv
