Back in 2013, a question was asked to Mufti AbdurRahman...
Can I just pray 8 Rak'ats for Tarawih?
At that time (remember it was 2013), Mufti AbdurRahman ibn Yusuf Mangera CLEARLY says that "You HAVE to read 8....."

Did you listen carefully? :)
In 2017 with all the evidence we have in front of us, he still says the same :)

Lol

On a different note, while what he mentioned may be fine according to the Hanafi madhab, but look at what these links say regarding the Maliki and shafi madhab:

www.shafiifiqh.com/question-details.aspx?qstID=233

m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=227666174388142&subst...

Another Shafi scholar says that there is basis for praying less than twenty or more than twenty, at home or in the masjid, with jamat or individually.

I had posted Ustadh Abdus Shakur's post on taraweeh according to the Maliki madhab last year in the taraweeh thread, and it is similar to what is mentioned above.

Also there would be no SIN according to the Shafis and Malikis even if they don't pray any taraweeh.

So I used to think , from what people say, that praying less than twenty is a modern phenomenon, but after reading the above, I no longer hold that view and I see that there is flexibility in the matter.

As far as the work on this forum is concerned, all the schools say 20 rakaats!

I would like to know what you read about the Maliki's because 36 was prayed for a particular reason in Madinah, otherwise, Taraweeh was always 20 Rakaats.

I don't recall reading anything about flexibility.

From what I gather, and I am still learning, is that there is are various differences in the position of the madhab, the views of scholars within the madhab, the amount that should be established in the masjid, the amount the follower can pray, the amount to pray at home, whether it is better for the individual to pray at the masjid or at home and whether to pray individually or in jamat. Also there different views as to the sunnah of the Rasul Salalahu Alayhi wasalam vs the sunnah of the khulafa regarding the number of rakats.

Have you heard the lecture by Shaykh Riyadhul Haq on Taraweeh.

Absolutely brilliant and he covers almost everything including the narrations of 8, 11, 20 and who narrated it and when. The conclusion of all the different narrations comes down to one teacher and 20 rakaats.

So why should I trust a Hanafi over a Maliki to give me the Maliki position? Yes if the Maliki position is incorrectly represented then I will take back my words, but as for now I have read it from two sources. The shafi scholar was very clear as to the matter being flexible as well.

Sheikh Musa Furber said: "When reading another madhab's works, don't misread them into being mere parrots of your own"

He was speaking in relation to the Hanbali position on masah on cotton socks and the neceaaary conditions that need to be fulfilled, but the statement is true regarding any issue.

I started this thread in the Light Side as a little joke, but these videos just prove how serious the matter actually is and the extent to which people actually got to to prove themselves better than the 4 schools of thought and in particular, the defamation of Imam Abu Hanifa!

The above links is what Shaykh Riyadhul Haq explains too.

If Muslim's and Muslim Scholar's can conspire against their fellow brothers, then why do Muslim's find it so hard to believe non Muslim's conspiring against Muslim's and even their own in the name of collateral damage!
