In one Hadith Rasulullah (Sallallaahu �layhi Wasallam) is reported to have said, 'After me there will be much differences. Hence hold on to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of my rightly guided Khulafaa'. (Mishk�t). Twenty Rakaats of Taraweeh with Jamaa was the Sunnah of the rightly guided Khulafaa. In this latter day difference, who will you follow? The Sunnah of the Khulafaa of Rasulullah (Sallallaahu �layhi Wasallam) or the way of those who contradict them??? You make the decision.
The administration of your masjid should consider the convenience of the people coming for tarawih. If there is another musjid nearby performing twenty rakaats taraweeh in a shorter space of time you may go there.
Taraweeh not being 20 rakaats was a fitna started by a Shia, by the name of al-Hillee, in his book he wrote that 20 rakats is an innovation of Umarرضي الله عنه. Shaykh ibn Taymiyyah wrote a book refuting every point in this book of al-Hillee. You can hear it yourself in the above link. go to 42mins of the talk by Shaykh Riyadhul Haq for proof.

While Moulana Ilyas ghuman sb was returning after doing a speech on 20 rakaat taraweeh, someone called him:
Caller: Salaamu alaikum Moulana: Wa alaikum Salaam puttar (son in punjaabi). What's the purpose?
Caller: We want to do Munazira. Moulana: Munazira on What?
Caller: On Taraweeh. Moulana: What's your claim?
Caller: 8 Raka'at Taraweeh. Moulana: Our purpose is not to defame anyone. I'll tell you the questions in advance so that your munazir comes with preperation so that during munazra he stays safe from abashment. Because our purpose is not personal attack but it is to reject wrong views.
Caller: Ok. Say. Moulana: Is Taraweeh 8 raka'at or twenty?
Caller: 8. Moulana: Ask your Munazir that from where will you prove this?
Caller: From Quran and Hadees Moulana: Is Taraweeh in Quran?
Caller: No........ from Hadees. Moulana: Okay. Now the question is that you read taraweeh with jama'at or without Jama'at?
Caller: With Jama'at. Moulana: You do Jama'at for three nights or for the whole month?
Caller: Whole month. Moulana: From which Hadees will you prove this?
Caller: No .. We will prove this from Sahaba RdA. Moulana: But Sahaba RdA did Jama'at with 20 Raka'at.
Caller: No, we will prove Raka'at from Hadees and Jama'at from Sahaba RdA. Moulana: I can't understand your policy, you are taking nights from Sahaba RdA and Raka'at from Huzoor saww? It is strange that you know that Nabi saww used to say 8 raka'at and Sahaba RdA didn't?
Caller: No. Sahaba RdA knew that. Moulana: Then why did they not read 8 Raka'at ?
Caller: Are they Ma'asoom? Can't they commit a mistake? Moulana: If it was the case of one or two Sahaba RdA, then they are not ma'asoom but in case of Ijma of Sahaba RdA, they are ma'asoom. Sahabi alone is Mahfooz, Sahaba Radhi allahu anhum ajma'een are ma'asoom.
Moulana says that 8 years have past this incident but there is not even a single another call from them.
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
