Masha'Allah, alhamdulillah, we all work in different ways.

I agree about bayans etc. While I save certain things to listen to on the MP3 player, there really is no use in keeping them beyond that point since they are already cataloged elsewhere (i.e. at the source) so no need to duplicate the efforts. I know where to go and have certain sites bookmarked.

Here's a time-saver (don't know how it works/happens though): if I am listening to something on youtube but can't finish doing so, I copy/paste the link on a stickynote and when I am ready to continue, I simply click on the link and it continues from where it left off! This works on chrome but it doesn't seem to work on every browser.

I am a functional person and I do everything based on function and not because I necessarily enjoy it so my purpose of Islamic knowledge is to benefit me or benefit others.

If its for my benefit I suck it internally and if its for refutations it needs to be accesiible (sharpish)

@Maulana Yasin, I agree, private blog is also something that's 'properly' accessible from all platforms, be it mobile or desktop.

@samy3660, tried it but if you are keeping notes and at the same time listening to the bayan, its tough and you also can't note it the way the speaker has related and over a period of time, some 'mixing' from our side tends to happen.

@umar123, FF already has a future of syncing bookmarks, all browsers have - inshaAllah will try regarding the notes - again I don't think it'll be accessible across platforms.

All of this just tells us of the importance of an ecosystem, either go with an all apple one or windows one (phones, laptops, tablets etc)

Having a single 'ecosystem' might work for some but it certainly does not work for me. I learn and process information better, and in turn am better able to share that information, if I use more than just a keyboard and mouse. Writing things down, using a physical eraser, crossing things out with a red pen, etc, etc... these make a huge difference for me. Writing things out physically, speaking what's on my mind, processing things I've read and/or heard... helps me. I've tried relying on a single system and it simply does not work for me - not just me, many others too.

For online backup Have you tried 'Evernote' : evernote.com/
Its an online cloud where you can upload 'texts'. Its cross platform, it has apps for smart phones too. I haven't used it much though.

As for audio/video. Whenever you listen to a lecture, open up notepad and note down the time of the audio/video where the person says important stuff. Something like this:
0.02.50 - birth of Imam Abu hanifa
0.16.22- teachers of Imam Abu Hanifa
1.08.00- incident of Imam and the drunkard

Save such notes in a folder. Don't forget to add the link to the audio/video inside the text file itself.

This way it ll be easier for you to find out stuff you want to revisit. You don't have to download the whole lecture if you ve internet access all the time.

For offline browsing back up all these texts in a portable hard disk. You can download audio/video also. I think 1 TB hard disk costs around 5000-6000 rs. You can go for one with lesser memory for less cost.

Windows 8 onwards has a great potential simply because it's what Apple users can do but without all the restrictions.

Android is second in comparison to what you want to do. Personally for me Android does for me what Windows can do for me. So for me I can use my phone to record lectures, takes pictures, make notes, have every Hadith and verse of the Quran as well as all the pdf files in my signature below. It's all here in my pocket and that's what worries me!

What's clearly becoming apparent from this thread is that people have different requirements and that is precisely how a tool is selected i.e you look at your requitements and select a tool and sometimes you use multiple tools as Sister Acacia is saying.

my requirements are refutation and verbally the speed to recall information and in the written form to provide the readers with as much information as possible and as quickly as possible and in their (native) format...

There was a time when I was Brother Desi Tadka's age and at that time I used to do pretty much what Sister Acacia is doing, her method is documented as the "Toyota Way" and taught at MBA. Toyota management still to this way tach you to pencils and highlighter etc, the "Lean Process Management" system also dictates the use of pencil and highlighter and summarising the information etc.

My requirements are no longer conducive to such a method so the tools are changed...

One thing is sure when you take a little hard work to store information, you tend to remember it better. Often it is seen due to advent of smartdialer, people are less often to remember phone numbers. Earlier people used to remember at least 20-30 numbers byheart, now it is hardly the case.
