I feel that, completing Quran in 29*20=580 rakats is a more comfortable compared to 29*8=232 rakats. You get more breaks. It takes little extra time, but it is worth.

It is comfortable if they read surah feel to Surah Ikhlas in 8 rakats. Else it is less comfortable. Self imposed.

Can anyone enlighten us. It is established from history that Ahle Madeenah offered 36 rakat taraweeh.
When did it changed to 20 or 8? From Authentic history of madeenah please.

All the Taraweeh questions can be discussed in the relevant threads.

36 rakaats is also discussed and reasons given. It was NOT 36 rakaats like our 20 or like the 20 of Makkah.

In Makkah they did tawaf after 4 rakaats as their pause, in Madinah, they prayed 4 rakaats nafil as their pause because they couldn't do tawaf, hence 36 rakaats.

Please stick to the topic of news from Makkah!

I know this about 36 rakat. But when did the practice changed to 20, or 8 as claimed by a few.

This is purely about history of madeenah, masjid e nabavi. Not about taraweeh alone.

This is how it's always been. One imam completes the first 10 and then steps aside and then the next imam comes in and does the remaining 10.

But rest of the congregation prayed 20. This year one Imam will lead 6 and other will lead 4.

Itikaf suspended at Two Holy Mosques

MAKKAH — Itikaf (the ritual of staying in a mosque solely for the purpose of worship and meditation) at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque In Madinah during the upcoming month of Ramadan has been suspended.

This was announced by the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques on its Twitter account on Monday. The move, it said, has come as part of precautionary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, head of the presidency, also confirmed the suspension of the five daily obligatory prayers, taraweeh special prayers, and iftar meal during the holy fasting month to safeguard the health of worshipers and visitors.

He said that the five daily prayers and taraweeh prayers at the Two Holy Mosques will be performed only by the presidency officials and sterilization workers during the blessed month.

Taraweeh prayers will be shortened to 10 rakats, Sheikh Al-Sudais said adding that the qunut prayer will be brief and focused on praying to God to end the epidemic.

He pointed out that the presidency has drawn up many plans to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, and that focus will be mainly on precaution and around-the-clock sterilization, in addition to activating around 10 thermal cameras in the Two Holy Mosques.More than 100,000 worshipers used to perform itikaf in the Two Holy Mosques in the last 10 days of Ramadan.

Authorities suspended all congregational prayers inside mosques last month across the Kingdom as part of efforts to stop the spread of the coronavirus. During this time, the only prayers permitted to continue outside the home have been at the Two Holy Mosques.

Earlier this week, the Council of Senior Scholars urged Muslims cross the globeto pray inside their homes during Ramadan if they reside in countries that have imposed coronavirus restrictions such as curfews and lockdowns.

The decision to suspend prayers at mosques came after a meeting between the Council of Senior Scholars and the Minister of Health.“This is considered a religious duty dictated by the Islamic Shariah and its general and specific rules. Everybody knows that this pandemic requires taking every measure of precaution including preventing any form of gathering with no exception,” Mohammed Al-Issa, secretary general of the Makkah-based Muslim World League, said at the time.

1,147 new cases in Saudi Arabia; Makkah again tops the list

Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia recorded 1,147 new cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 11,631, a health ministry spokesman said on Tuesday.

The Kingdom has seen a steady increase in cases over the past few days following a spike as the result of increased field testing.

A whopping 76 percent of the newly recorded cases were discovered through the Kingdom’s efforts in field testing, Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdel Ali was quoted by Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as telling a regular press briefing here.

He said 150 medical teams are visiting neighborhoods throughout the country to screen people in their homes. Over 500,000 people have been screened so far.

The spokesman also announced five new coronavirus deaths, bringing the death toll 109. There are currently 9,882 active cases in Saudi Arabia. A total of 1,640 people have recovered so far.

Makkah recorded the highest number of cases (305), followed closely by 299 in Madinah, 171 in Jeddah, 148 in Riyadh, and 138 in Hufuf. There were 27 new cases in Taif, 12 in Jubail, 10 in Tabuk, eight in Khulais, six in Buraidah, five in Dammam, three in Al-Makhwa, two each in Unaizah, Al-Hada, Dhahran and Ar'ar, one each in Mahayel, Al-Jouf, Qunfudah, Qurayyat, Sabt Al-Alaya, Al-Quraie and Baha.

Health Minister Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah has recently warned that the number of cases in the Kingdom could reach up to 200,000 within weeks, based on four different studies conducted by Saudi and foreign experts. His lower estimate was 10,000.
