Assalamualaikum

Many of us become practicing at a later stage in life probably in our 20s. Since bulooghat till our reversion to deen we neglect many salahs. Qadha namaz according to us is wajib (fardh) as all namaz are fardh. Sadly I have noticed a general tendency of laziness in fulfilling this wajib.

The first matter a muslim will be inquired about on the day of qayamat is namaz. If his namaz is proper his case will be eased. But if namaz has deficiency hard questioning would follow.

The only time we remember our qadha salah is when debating with salafis and modernists who advocate against the wujoob of qadha namaz. We will give them dalail and spend days refuting them but when it comes to practicality does our conscience make us get up and make up for all the qadha namaz?
It is indeed sad that we waste our time in 'la yani' and futile things all day but the most important aspect of our deen is neglected.

I will add masail pertaining to qadha namaz inshaAllah. I hope it benefits someone somewhere.

Q. My husband and I constantly argue about Namaaz. He does not make his Qadha Namaaz. When I question him about his neglect of his Qadha Namaaz, he takes offence and says that I am nagging too much. He says that I should not worry about his Qadha Namaaz as it is his sin. Please comment.

A. Your husband is most ungrateful for the favour you are doing him. He does not realise what a valuable wife he has, hence he reacts like a shaitaan. If he had to suffer a huge monetary loss and you save him in some way from sustaining such a loss, he will applaud and praise you. He will appreciate your act. Since he understands the value of money, he will be grateful to you for saving him from a loss. But because he has absolutely no understanding of the colossal loss he will be suffering in the Aakhirah nor does he have any understanding of Allah's Punishment, he reacts in this irresponsible way. He cannot see the good you are doing for him. Continue to remind him of his Qadha Salaat. It is among your duties to your husband to try your best to see that he follows the Deen

Q. Is it better to engage in Qazaa Salaat or Nafl Salaat?

A. Excluding the Sunnatul Muakkadah, Salaatud Dhuhaa, Ishraaq, SalaatutTasbeeh, Tahyatul Musjid, the four Nafl before Asr Salaat and such other Nafl Salaat expressly mentioned in the Ahadith, it is better to engage in Qazaa Salaat than Nafl Salaat.

(Comment from me: notice that it is better to engage in qadha salaat than nafl salaat. Nafl salaat! What would be status of futile matters in regards to qadha namaz)

Q. Is Salaat which had not been performed in the past forgiven when Hajj is performed?

A. Hajj does not cancel out Qadha Salaat. All Qadha Salaat has to be compulsorily performed. As long as one is alive, the Qadha will have to be made.

Q. I have missed some Salaat many years ago but am unaware of how many. How should I make qadha of such Salaat?

A.Regarding missed Salaat, you have to reflect deeply, then make an estimate as best as you can of the number of Salaat you think you have missed. For example, after reflecting, you come to a conclusion that the number of Salaat could be two years. Make a note of this. Then start performing Qadha of one, or two, or three or as much as you wish at a time. Start with Fajr, then Zuhr, then Asr, then Maghrib, then Isha, then Witr as well. This gives you qadha of one day. Record the one day in your note book. Whenever you perform Qadha, make a note. Perform it in the sequence mentioned above so that it is easy to record a day. In this way continue until the Salaat of the 2 years is completed. Whenever beginning a Qadha, make niyyat as follows: "O Allah! I am making thefirstFajr qadha of all the Fajr Salaat which I had missed." If it is Zuhr, then mention Zuhr. For each qadha mention this very same niyyat because every Qadha you will be performing will be thefirstof the balance you owe Allah Ta'ala. You need not verbally utter the niyyat. You may just intend it in your mind.

Purpose of ilm is amal not debates, discussions, chit chats, show off.

The ilm that is not backed by amal will become athab on the day of qayamat.

Genuine question: How do you know people have a tendency to be lazy in fulfilling their Qadha Salah, because Qadha is not something that is or should not be broadcast?

It is something thousands admit to and they only admit it because they are proud of the fact that they are NOW praying, Alhumdulillah.

Whenever these Masaa'il pop up, people do discuss them and admit out of guilt and pride at the same time.

I doubt it. People might admit to having Qadha but I doubt they admit to having a tendency of being lazy to perform them. I don't know anyone personally that's admitted to me that they are lazy when it comes to performing Qadha Salah

If I said I'm one of them, would you then accept it?

Hanifi Fiqh Prayer

Question 27/02/14

What are my responsibilities towards making up missed prayers if I never knew I had to pray them or if I was not practising? What should I do if the numbers that I have to make up are too much?

Answer By Ustadh Haroon Hanif
Prayer is the most important pillar of the religion and without it there is an essential missing from the life of the believer. It is enough of a warning that the Messenger of God, prayers and peace be upon him, viewed prayer as the distinction between the believer and the unbeliever. Hence, the believer cannot miss a prayer from puberty onwards and must account for every prayer. Consequently, it is obligatory for every prayer that is missed from puberty onwards to be made up and nothing will lift the obligation other than performance of the prayer.

A person must calculate how many prayers have been missed and then spend all of his time making up those prayers. If the numbers that need to be made up are relatively small, then that person should pray them as normal but if he or she has a large number to make up, such as years of prayers, then there is no harm in performing a truncated prayer in which the sunnas are missed out.

The quickest way to do perform a shortened prayer is as follows:

1. Takbir

2. In the first unit, read over half of al-Fatiha (up to 'ihdinas siratul mustaqim' is enough)Personally, I find this part very hard to comprehend, since Fatiha is wajib. and read a short sura. In the ruku', read one tasbih, stand saying 'sami Allahu liman hamidah' and nothing else, and in both sujuds, read one tasbih.

3. In the second unit do the same as in the first unit.

4. In the sitting (assuming it is the first sitting), read the whole of the tashahhud, which cannot be shortened.

5. In the third unit, stand for the length of one tasbih without reciting al-Fatiha. The rest is the same as before.

6. In the fourth unit do the same as the third unit.

7. In the final sitting read the tashahhud and give salams immediately without reading prayers on the Prophet and without a closing dua.

When having completed the prayer, ask God's forgiveness for having missed the prayer and for the delay in making it up.

We ask Allah that He never allows us to miss any further prayers

I'm in no position to answer any of these things mentioned, especially what is recited. Please contact them direct. This is a FYI only.
