It doesn't matter how fairly I try to answer this it will be perceived as tainted like your opinion on the Armenians.

I don't have a tainted opinion on the Armenians brother Muadh_Khan. I've never said anything for or against the Armenians. The only comment I've ever made here (as far as I can recall) is that the Arabs turned on the Ottomans, just as the Armenians did. I am well aware of their suffering at the time, and I am also aware of the way the Turkish republic has dealt with it but in no way have I ever defended it or condoned it... and I have family from that area so that's saying a lot!

PS - I now feel compelled to also add the following for fear that I will be perceived as siding with those calling the events an Armenian genocide - Turks suffered too. It was a time of war, heightened tensions, and betrayals. Turks were specifically targeted by some Armenians, and massacred. The situation was out-of-control and we may disagree with the way decision makers dealt with the situation but they did so within their time, their realities, their views and what have you; perhaps, had they taken a different stance, that too would have been criticized. Khayr, the result is that the face of the area has been permanently (please take this as meaning near-permanence since nothing in this world is truly permanent) changed. An entire culture has been wiped out of the area, leaving behind 'ghosts' in the form of abandoned buildings and neighbourhoods and the cries of people resonating from far-away places.

Yes, I read that too brother and I'm trying to let the message out but since you're the one who brought it to light, you got named; though, I understand you're not the one who perceives my opinions as such.

Please do provide your views here insha'Allah... members here are well balanced masha'Allah and insha'Allah if we can keep things without making them personal, we can have proper discussions.

Ghurabaa nasheed (starts at approx. 0:42). The sound quality is owing to its age.

JazakAllah khayran. And I'm so sorry, I should have done a search first. Brother abu Muhammad, kindly merge this with one of them if you feel it is more appropriate. JazakAllah khayran.

In Turkey, the police force and the military are not exactly on par; generally speaking, the police have been supportive of the government whereas the military has not.

What is the situation in terms of armed forces in Bangladesh? Who can step in to stop this? This is insane! This is totally insane! Who hands these criminals guns to turn on unarmed citizens! Which Muslim does that? How can they, with their shin guards, helmets, other protective gear, and heavy hitting boots, and guns take turns kicking and beating individuals bleeding and convulsing on the streets!?! What is going on here? Oh Allah!

[Edit: I'm referring to the incidents that happened earlier in the year and the emotion in the words follows after seeing some very disturbing footage from those events. It looks like the police were involved there.]

Ignorance is terrible. I am not a successful student of history and I had very limited knowledge of the history of Bangladesh (limited to disjointed bits in news headlines). Having spent a day looking into it, I now see why brother Muadh_Khan may have brought in the Armenian issue - not personal at all, just perhaps personally relevant in a some-what parallel way. I didn't know so I couldn't clue in when the comment was made. Sorry.

Anyway, for a while there I was thinking I may have conflated totally separate issues into one but perhaps not. The military is power in Bangladesh and those involved in the mutiny are not part of the regular forces but rather, they are a paramilitary group trying to gain some power within their own ranks. The military continues to trump but it seems there is some political game playing going on that isn't easy to spot. Who is playing who, who is getting hurt, who was tried, who should have been tried... ?

Incidentally, I had wondered about the name Mustafa Kamal when I read The Conqueror of Hearts: In the Land of Sultan Muhammad Al-Fateh. I had no idea Muslims outside of Turkey were this obsessed with Mustafa Kemal. When I read the book, I assumed it was a Turk but wondered why he changed the 'e' in Kemal to an 'a' to read Kamal.

This post has been reported. It could be due to breaking rules or something as simple as bad use of bbcodes which breaks the page format. We will attend to this soon.

Well... the same rule applies to me :) moving thread from the Light Side to People's Say insha'Allah

Please always post in the correct section. Categories are there for a reason and posting too many times in the wrong section increases our work to move it to the correct section. Doing this often could enable temporary restrictions on starting new topics.
