Would this not be considered gambling since this is exactly what gambling entails, you invest with a "chance" to win a return?

The winning money goes towards the charity, not the donor.

It's a motivational effort from the organisation to donate towards the charity that has the most donors.

Or don't give anything. Let people give charity for the sake of Allah. On its own, the message was fine and seemed like a good incentive and added an extra good intention but the moment a second Islamic cause sends the same thing that help us win it and then a 3rd that please help us win it then charity has lost its virtue.

I'm seeing it very differently and hopefully its just me.

But to all the organisations I'd strongly like to point out that it's not the donations that keep you running.

Imagine they sent out certificates to all donors guaranteeing them the reward in the Aakhira as an alternative.

Do you think people would donate as much?

Personally, I took part only because of a request to spread the news of the incentive.

I know someone who didn't give any Eidy to children one Eid. Instead he donated that amount to charity and printed receipts in their names and gave them the receipts.

MashaAllah, that was a brilliant idea. Some of the kids did complain, as well as some parents :( since they rely on Eidy. It was a great idea, but kids did prefer the cash :)
