Would this not be considered gambling since this is exactly what gambling entails, you invest with a "chance" to win a return?

And if you lose in gambling, you lose your investment...Do you mind enlightening us as to what you are loosing?

Example: Someone has 3 children and they say whoever reads the most Qu'raan will get $100, do you mind enlightening me how that is gambling and Haram?

No its not gambling.

The winning money goes towards the charity, not the donor.

It's a motivational effort from the organisation to donate towards the charity that has the most donors.

The scary part of the discussion is that there are people who actually think that this is "Gambling" in Islam. I genuinely hope that these people do not open their mouths about "Islam" and its commandments or try to teach or propagate their understanding of Islam to others.

It is downright dangerous.

The Islamic knowledge of "Deobandees" is disintegrating to pathetic levels in our lifetimes and in front of our eyes. I shudder to think of the "Ulama" these people refer to and consult with in their daily lives.

The message we get is that, one has to buy a ticket for 1 pound, lots will be picked and one bearer will win $5000

Let the message be clear on OP.

Khair, I hope it's made clearer and people donate.

Ignorance is prevailing everywhere.
There is no need to point fingers specifically at Deobandees.

I was also young once like many others on this forum but we were never arrogant enough to give definitive opinions on matters on which we are largely ignorant!

  1. Could this be a form of gambling? Can someone please explain why or why not?
  2. Would this not be considered gambling since this is exactly what gambling entails, you invest with a "chance" to win a return?
  3. Likes and Winner ratings
  4. Ignorant comments from people who do not understand basic English

1 is humility which Allah Ta'ala commands us to adopt

2, 3 & 4 are attributes of Fir'oun and accusations upon Scholars from people who have no defining attributes except ignorance.

Take a good look at this thread:

www.muftisays.com/forums/82-the-food-section/13386-alcoho...

Is Mufti Ebrahim Desai (HA) advising Muslims to use Vodka??? Is he really???

It's gambling if the amount you donated goes to the "winners" by chance and not the ones you've donated to.

Here, what you donate will go to the destination regardless of the bonus.

Ramadham Donation Battles continue...

I'm having a lot of issues with these donation requests (all), hopefully I'm wrong.

It's understandable.

Under normal circumstances, Masjids and Charities take in much income from Masjid attendees in Ramadhan. However, this year majority of the income didn't come in.

Those who use online facilities and have a bit of sense, would set up standing orders and continue to send in their Lillah, Sadaqah or Zakat.

However, unfortunately this year I believe those who have the money and can afford advertising on Islamic channels will be the ones that benefit the most.

Majority of the smaller ones will be left behind.

It's a good initiative from the online companies that encourage donations and then pledge a lump sum for the winner.

But at the same time, I think instead of giving the lump sum to the ones who have been given a lot, they should give the money to the losing charity :(

Or don't give anything. Let people give charity for the sake of Allah. On its own, the message was fine and seemed like a good incentive and added an extra good intention but the moment a second Islamic cause sends the same thing that help us win it and then a 3rd that please help us win it then charity has lost its virtue.

I'm seeing it very differently and hopefully its just me.

But to all the organisations I'd strongly like to point out that it's not the donations that keep you running.

Imagine they sent out certificates to all donors guaranteeing them the reward in the Aakhira as an alternative.

Do you think people would donate as much?

Personally, I took part only because of a request to spread the news of the incentive.

I know someone who didn't give any Eidy to children one Eid. Instead he donated that amount to charity and printed receipts in their names and gave them the receipts.

MashaAllah, that was a brilliant idea. Some of the kids did complain, as well as some parents :( since they rely on Eidy. It was a great idea, but kids did prefer the cash :)

Forgive my insolence, but that sounds like a very mean thing to do to the children.
