Pray as You Have Seen Me(S.A.W.) Pray

posted by abu mohammed on 7th November 2010 - 3 comments
This has been taken from My Wudhu My Salah, (one of my other posts) with a little less but with a title that should have an impact on those in search for the truth. InshaAllah Covering of the Head During Salaah Ibn Umar (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) wore a white hat. (Tabarani — Allama Suyuti has classified this Hadith as highly authentic: see Sirajul Muneer; v.4, pg.112). It is written in Fataawa Thunaaiyya vol. 1, pg. 525), and in the Fatawaa of the Ahle Hadith Scholars (vol. 4 pg.291) that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) always used to keep his mubarak head covered during salaah. In the same books it is also mentioned that to intentionally remove the headgear (hat) and perform salaah bare-headed is contrary to the sunnah. (vol. 1, pg.523.) To Raise the Hands upto the Earlobes Hazrat Qataada (radhiallahu anhu) relates that he saw Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) performing his salaah. He relates that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) used to lift his hands until they were in line with his earlobes. Shoulder to Shoulder & Feet to Feet!

posted by abu mohammed on 5th November 2010 - 1 comment
Manner of standing in the saff (rows of the jamaah) It is established from several ahadith that the saff (row) should be absolutely straight and no gaps should be left between the musallis (worshippers). However, some people insist on spreading their feet and standing in such a manner that their ankles touch the ankles of their neighbour. What is the reality of standing in this fashion? Those who stand in this way base their practice upon a hadith narrated by Nu’maan bin Basheer (radhiallahu anhu). He says: "Once Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) faced us and said: "Straighten your rows". He repeated this thrice. He then said: "By Allah, you must most certainly straighten your rows or else Allah Ta’ala will disunite your hearts". Hazrat Nu’maan bin Basheer (radhiallahu anhu) says: "I then saw the people joining together their shoulders and ankles". [Abu Dawood, Sahih ibn Khuzaima] The concluding statement of Hazrat Nu’maan (radhiallahu anhu) is also reported in Sahih Bukhari. However, upon analysing this hadith, several points come to light: Firstly, Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) never commanded the joining of the ankles. No hadith has yet been found wherein Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) himself instructed the Sahaaba (radhiallahu anhu) to join their ankles. The Sahaaba (radhiallahu anhu) had themselves adopted this manner in order to fulfil the command of straightening the saff. Secondly, this hadith clearly mentions that Nu’maan bin Basheer (radhiallahu anhu) saw the Sahaaba (radhiallahu anhu) doing this PRIOR to the commencement of the salaah. There is no mention of this position being maintained even after the salaah had commenced. Therefore we find that great muhadditheen such as Hafiz ibn Hajar (R.A.) and Allama Shawkani (R.A.) have regarded this as an extreme measure which was occasionally adopted by the Sahaaba (radhiallahu anhu) to ensure that the saff is straight. In fact, a hadith of Hazrat Anas (radhiallahu anhu) makes it absolutely clear that this practice was merely a measure adopted BEFORE the salaah to ensure the straightening of the saff. He says: "If I had to do that (join the ankles) with anyone of them (the taabi’een) today, they would run like wild mules". [Fath al-Bari, vol.2, pg.176]

4 Sunnat, 2 Sunnat, witr

Sunnats BEFORE Salaat al-Zuhr Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) has said: "Whoever performs four rakaats before the fardh of zuhr and four rakaats after it, Allah Ta’aala will make him haraam upon the fire of Jahannam". [Tirmidhi, Hadith no. 428] Sunnats BEFORE Salaat al-Asr Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) has said: "May Allah show mercy upon that person who performs four rakaats before the fardh of asr". [Tirmidhi, chapter on the narrations regarding the four rakaats, Hadith no. 430] Sunnats of Salaat al-Maghrib Hazrat Abu Ma’mar (radhiallahu anhu) has said that the Sahaabah (radhiallahu anhum) used to consider 4 rakaats after the Fardh of maghrib to be mustahab. 5 TIMES a Day

posted by abu mohammed on 5th November 2010 - 0 comments
Time of Salah Some times we get asked why do you pray Salah at those late timmings. Prescribed Times For The Five Daily Salaah Hazrat Abu Huraira (radhiallahu anhu) narrates: "When the length of your shadow (from the sun) is equal to your height then perform the zuhr salaah. When the length of your shadow becomes twice your height, perform the asr salaah. Perform the maghrib salaah when the sun has set. Perform the esha salaah before one-third (1/3) of the night passes. And perform the fajr salaah while it is still dark." [Muwatta Imaam Maalik vol.1, pg.8, Hadith 9] Masnoon Time For Zuhr Salaah Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) has said: "When the heat becomes very intense (after mid-day), then delay the zuhr salaah until it cools down, for verily the intensity of the heat is from the effects of Jahannam". [Sahih Muslim, Hadith 615] Masnoon Time For Asar

My Wudhu, My Salah!

posted by abu mohammed on 5th November 2010 - 0 comments
[h]My Wudhu and My Salah according to Hadith[/b] The Masnoon Method Of Wudhu Hazrat Usman (radhiallahu anhu) once asked: "Should I not show you the manner in which Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) performed his wudhu?" Thereafter he performed wudhu in such a manner that he washed every limb thrice. [Sahih Muslim, ch. on wudhu, Hadith 23] Masah (passing wet fingers) Over The Nape. Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Umar (radhiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: "Whoever performs wudhu and makes masah over his nape, he will be saved from wearing a necklace (of fire) around his neck on the the day of judgement". The famous commentator of Sahih al-Bukhari, Allamah Ibn Hajar Asqalaani (R.A), writes in his book Talkheesul Habeer (vol. 1: p.92) that this narration is Sahih. Allamah Shawkani (R.A.) has also affirmed this in Naylul Awtaar (vol. 1, p.204). Masnoon Method Of Iqaamah Hazrat Bilal (radhiallahu anhu), Rasulullah's (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) muazzin, used to call out the words of azaan and iqaamah twice. (This Hadith is classified as Sahih — Musannaf Abdur Razzaak; see Aathaarus Sunan v.1, pg. 53)

Are you a Muslim!

posted by abu mohammed on 5th November 2010 - 1 comment
We know what the 5 pillars of Islam are, but Allah demands Iman in all of the Quran (and not in parts of it) from everyone - be they born Muslims, Jews, Christians, Sabians, or from any other religion. But the situation is critical as far as born Muslims are concerned because they are under the impression that they have Iman by virtue of their birth. Most Muslims are, in fact, Muslims because they were born in Muslim families, so much so, that a person born in a Sunni family is considered Sunni just as a person born in a Shia family is considered Shia. If they were born in Hindu, Jewish or Christian families, they will be Hindus, Jews, or Christians, respectively. In view of the prevalent belief systems then, how can a born Muslim justify his/her Iman in light of the Quran? Remember that if a person did not have the freedom to choose something, he/she is not responsible for it. So, if we (born Muslims) did not freely and consciously choose Islam, we are not entitled to it in an active sense but only in a passive sense.
Originally, all the Sahaba (R) had accepted Islam with due thought and understanding and therefore, they were among the category of true Quranic mu’mins. However, many tribes accepted Islam in masses when Islam had become well-established as a system with rule of law in society. The Quran refers to these people as follows:

[b]"These bedouins say that they are mu’mins. O Prophet! Tell them that you do not have Iman. You have only accepted to surrender (to Islam). Iman has not yet entered your hearts." (49:14)[/center]

The meaning and aspects of Iman from the Quran which sheds light as to why these bedouins should not call themselves mu’mins. If Allah does not let these bedouins call themselves mu’mins, who willingly accepted to enter Islam, how can born Muslims call themselves mu’mins, who did not accept Islam by choice and did not fulfill the requirements of Iman?

Top 40 Hanafi Scholars

posted by abu mohammed on 5th November 2010 - 8 comments
We hear so many times that we follow Imam Abu Hanifa, just one person, what if he was wrong, what if he made mistakes etc etc. Well InshaAllah this will clear things up a little. Imam Abu Hanifa had thousands of students. Imam Abu Yusuf, Imam Muhummad and Sayidina Ibn Mubarak were the most famous students of Imam Abu Hanifa. Imam Abu Hanifa had a council of 40 students who lived and studied in his academy. He has reportedly spoken on 83,000 juristic issues. Whenever an issue came to the attention of Imam Abu Hanifa’s council they used to discuss the matter for months and reach a conclusion based on the consensus. The council used to resolve the problems of the community, they were unlike some of the scholars today who are harsh and send people away. They used to “speculate” and “assume” issues and then passed Fatwa’s on them. The Fiqh of Imam Abu Hanifa is compatible and applicable to modern times.

Problem Solved

posted by abu mohammed on 5th November 2010 - 0 comments
Problems He Solved Once a man came to Imam Abu Hanifa and said “I am in a state of impurity, but I have said if I take a bath, my wife is divorced three times. I am a Muslim so I must take a bath but at the same time I do not want to divorce my wife, what should I do?” Imam Abu Hanifa took the man to the river and pushed him in and informed the man that “you are now purified”. In another instance a bad tempered man in a fit of anger said to his wife who was climbing a ladder “If you take one more step up, you are divorced and if you take one more step down, you are divorced”. Later when he calmed down, he realised the errors of his ways and felt sorry for his poor wife stuck on a ladder. He this matter to Imam Abu Hanifa and told him to solve his problem. Imam Abu Hanifa told him to get some men who can lift the ladder from each side and place it on the floor so that he wife can off the ladder, or he can get some women to climb on the ladder and his wife can get down climbing on their shoulders. Once Imam Abu Hanifa told his hairdresser to pluck out all his grey hair, his hairdresser told him that if he was to do that his grey hair will increase. Imam Abu Hanifa told him that if this is the case then he should pluck out all his black hair instead. There was a Shia man who believed that Hadrat Usmaan (ra) was a Jew. Imam Abu Hanifa visited his house and told him that he has brought a proposal for his daughter. He told the Shia man that this man whom he had in mind for his daughter was young, modest, handsome, wealthy, pious, and generous. The Shia accepted the proposal almost immediately. Imam Abu Hanifa pointed out that the only problem with the suitor is that he was a Jew. The Shia was furious and asked Imam Abu Hanifa, how he could accept such a proposal. Imam Abu Hanifa calmly told him that “If the idea of accepting a Jew for your own daughter is so ludicrous, then how can you believe that the Holy Prophet (saw) accepted such a man for his own daughter’s twice-Are you more intelligent then him?” The man repented and promised that he would no longer spread such lies.

Condemnation of Abu Hanifa

posted by abu mohammed on 4th November 2010 - 1 comment
From a link provided by Brother Muadh, Jazakallah, May Allah reward you for your efforts. Before discussing these criticisms in detail, one should understand that most of the criticisms which were levelled against Imam Abu Haneefah (r.a.) were either due to jealousy or due to lack of correct information about him. Ibnu Abdil Barr Al-Maaliki (r.a.) mentions in Jaami’u Bayaanil I’lmi wa Fadlihi (pg.149): Those who narrated from Abu Haneefah (r.a.) and supported his authenticity are much more in number than those who criticised him. Taaj-ud-Deen As-Subki (r.a.) has mentioned in Tabaqaat-ush-Shafi`iyyah Al-Kubra under the discussion of Ahmad ibnu Saalih Al-Misri (r.a.): “The correct view according to us is that when a person has been recognised as an imam and there are many who praise him, then one will not pay any attention to the little criticism that is levelled against him; otherwise there will be no one who would be free from any criticism.” (Arba`u Rasaa-il fi U`loomil Hadeeth, pg.19)

Ameerul Mu'mineen of Hadith, Hadhrat Abdullah ibn Mubarak (R)(Passed away in 181 A.H.) was most of the most senior Muhadditheen and the teacher of people like Imam Ahmad(R) and Imam Yahya ibn Ma'een(R). Infact the first book that Imam Bukhari(R) studied were those of Abdullah ibn Mubarak(R). He is unanimously regarded as the Ameerul Mu'mineen in the field of Hadith and Imams Buhkari(R) & Muslim(R) narrate many Hadith from him. He was one of the special students of Imam Abu Hanifa(R) and was so captivated by the personality of Imam Abu Hanifa(R) that he stayed with him through out his life. He had the following to say about Imam Abu Hanifa(R) [b]"He (Imam Abu Hanifa) was amongst those who knew the most Hadith of Rasulullah(SAW) and had studied Hadith from many teachers". Abdullah ibn Mubarak(R) used to encourage people to follow Imam Abu Hanifa(R) and say, "We have been to many scholars of Hijaz and Iraq but hvae never found a class more blessed and more beneficial than that of Imam Abu Hanifa" "I have been to Many Cities but I had never known the principles of Halal & Haram until I met him (Imam Abu Hanifa(R))"
