Ihtilam means a wet dream I.e. seeing a sexual dream which results in ejaculatory emission for men and wetness in the vagina for women. This will necessitate Ghusl for both men and women.

Also If you ejaculate whilst awake with desire, ghusl will be necessary.

If there is no discharge after a wet dream then Ghusl will not be necessary.

If there is discharge of Madhi only wudhu is necessary.

If you find wetness and doubting that it is Mani (semen) or Madhi and don't remember having a dream then you should make Ghusl. As in the matters of worship one should exercise precaution.

Wherever the filth have soiled the garment those places you need to wash three times and squeeze after every wash. There is no need to wash the whole garment .

You can put your underwear with other clothes in the washing machine too, as washing machine involves several washes and rinses, impure clothes can therefore be washed via the washing machine. The clothes will become clean as long as no visible impurity is still present after the wash.

Read your Azkars and Duas before you retire to bed this should help to prevent wet dreams, InshaAllah.

ومنها الاحتلام الخ لفظه غلب علي ما يراه النائم من الجماع المقترن بالإنزال غالبا
والمرأة فيه كالرجل في ظاهر الرواية

لا عند مذي وودي بل الوضوء منه........اه أي بل يجب الوضوء منه أي من الودي ومن البول جميعا

يجب الغسل عندهما لاعند أبي يوسف فيما اذاشك انه مني أومذي أو ودي ولم يتذكر احتلاما فيهما
ولهما ما روي أنه صلي الله عليه وسلم سئل عن الرجل يجدالبلل ولم يذكر احتلاما قال "يغتسل" ولأن النوم راحة تهيج الشهوة وقديرق المني لعارض والاحتياط لازم في باب العبادات

(قوله وبتثليث الجفاف فيما لاينعصر أي مالاينعصر فطهارته غسله ثلاثا وتجفيفه في كل مرة لأن للتجفيف اثرا في استخراج النجاسة وهو أن يتركه حتي ينقطع التقاطر ولايشترط فيه اليبس
