| Assalamuaalaikum,
I have finished my Master's degree. However, this degree didn't go well. Now, I want to apply for PhD or another Master's. I want not to mention my Master's degree in my application. Is this ok?? I heard that Prophet (SA) ordered to tell the secrets of product quality. |

﷽ In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful If the information was omitted from the application and does not have any bearing on the outcome then there is no problem. However, it is not permissible to lie or deceive in order to gain a position on the postgraduate programme. If the application is made without mentioning the Masters programme previously undertaken; and a position is given on merit of your undergraduate results; and the omission if the information has no bearing on associated benefits such as funding, financial support etc., then it is no problem. However, at times the information may be required to ascertain knowledge, skillset etc. in going from undergraduate to PhD. Or, if you have received financial support for one postgraduate study, there may not be any funding available for a second. Or, if you have left out the Masters degree from the application, there may be a gap in the CV, where the university may enquire as to recent activity or what you have been doing during the period of inactivity on your application/CV. Thus, note it is not permissible to lie or deceive in order to gain a position on a postgraduate programme. Honesty and transparency is advised and in the long term, always the best way forward. And Allah Ta’āla knows best
