Question: Dropshipping
Assalam alaykum.
I want to start selling online, but I don't own the products. Whenever a customer orders a product from my site, I would tell the owner to deliver the product directly to him. Is it allowed? What if I talk with the owner from first about it and we both agree to it.

What are the halal ways of dropshipping?

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful

A requirement prior to selling the product, is to ensure that the item is in your receipt. Selling an item not in your possession is impermissible.

Here, the sharĪ’ah compliant method for ‘drop-shipping’ is to implement the model of 'salam'.

‘A’ will purchase the item from the wholesaler ‘B’, and make ‘B’, his agent to deliver the item to ‘C’.

(You will purchase the item/s from the seller, and then make the seller your agent to deliver your item/s to your customer.)

In doing this, the following information has to be clearly advertised:

  • ‘A’ will have to clearly state in the advert that he/she is not in receipt of the item, and will arrange delivery of the item once ‘C’ completes the payment.
  • The full description of the item being sold has to be advertised
  • The time duration for the delivery has to be advertised.

And Allah Ta’āla knows best
