Is cat hair impure

We have a cat that has the habit of sitting in front of us, rubbing against us, or sits on our lap when we make salaat.
Someone told me that cat hair is Najis (Impure)- is this true and must we re-do
our Salaat?

Swallowing of cream/perfume

Assalamu'alaikum respected brother/sister in Islam. May Allah reward you for seeking to help me and our fellow Muslims.

I am aware that synthetic alcohols - those not sourced from grapes, dates or raisins - are all permissible to use and consume as long as they reach four set criteria (SeekersGuidance, SunniPath, GMWA Food Guide). This rule applies to flavorings in food.

Does this apply to non-food products too? The alcohol found in perfumes and creams etc. is often ethyl alcohol or alcohol denat and can sometimes be found listed as a separate ingredient. We are allowed to use such creams/deodorant/perfume externally on our skin/clothing and our salah is valid, but is it ok if some goes into the mouth and it is swallowed? When products are on the skin, they are absorbed by the pores and enter the body anyway. So does the same ruling apply for it being in the mouth? Is it impermissible to ingest such products via the mouth, though it has been absorbed into the body anyway, considering that it does meet the afore mentioned four permissibility criteria set for the synthetic alcohol? Often, the cream/perfume remains on the hands (which are used to eat food) from applying the product or it is on the lips, i.e. lipstick or from facial moisturising - is it haram to consume via the mouth if it is synthetic and meets the criteria to make it ok?

Forgive me for my long windedness, I hope I have managed to ask what I sought to ask insha'Allah. You will be in my duahs insha'Allah. Wasalam.

Benefits overpayment

Assalamoalikum Dear Scholars,

Few years ago i use to get benefits from the government (working tax credits and child tax credit).
The tax credits allowance is based on the yearly household income.

For one particular year i informed the Inland Revenue about my yearly income for that year and based on the figure i had provided ,a final decision was made by the Inland Revenue and i received benefits(working and child tax credit).

However i had made an error on the yearly income, ie i had declared a lower yearly income to the Inland Revenue than what it actually was.
Thus, i once again contacted Inland Revenue and informed them of the correct (higher)amount of household income.
(as my household income was higher than what i had declared initially,my benefits would be lower and it would mean that i would have to repay the excess benefits that i had received).

However the Inland Revenue amended the records but never asked me to repay the excess money that i had received as benefits.
If i am not asked by the Inland Revenue to pay back this overpayment what can i do with the overpaid money ?

Can i give it to charity ?
What type of charity can i give it as ?
What intention do i make ?

JAZAKALLAH KHAIR.

Astrology/name change

HI,
I am very confused about a personal matter and wanted some clear guidance. I have been having so many problems in getting marriage proposals and if i did get proposals people never got back to my family. Then I had english registry with a guy 13 months a go but now I am in process of filing for annulment as i never lived with him. I am so down at present and because of this i called on of the asian channels on tv who tell you about your situation/future according to stars. The man said I should have my birth chart made and should change my name too as this is the cause and if i don't change my name I will continue to have problems in my life. Is astrology permitted in Islam? My name is Sarah, is this suitable name as it is spelt in english way? Also, does names have an affect on a person's personal life? What is a birth chart and again is it Islamic?
Can you suggest something which I can read? as i am very confused and upset right now.
Many Thanks

Beating children to teach quran

Is it allowed in islam to beat childern to teach them quran. I was told by many people that it is allowed infact necessary to beat children to make them hafiz or teach quran. Once my cousin's son mulana punched him in the stomach when he made a mistake causing the child to vomit, when appoarched by his parents the mullana said that he did not do anything wrong infact the only way to make chilren hafiz is to beat the severely if they make a mistake and that this is alowed in islam. Are we allowed to hit chilren on head or face, or hit them in a manner that marks are left on their bodies or great pain is caused. please give me some references from prophet (saw) life & sayings

Glycol and Glycerine

Asalamualakuim,

According to the Hanafi fiqh I would like to find out whether it is permissible to use creams, make up products, soaps, shampoos, face wipes, toothpaste and cleaning products with GLYCOL? Some particular Glycols I have come across are: polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol and ethylene glycol. So for Glycol on its own and polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol and ethylene glycol is it permissible to use products with these substances (NOT EAT)?
However if products with Glycol (on its own) or polyethylene glycol ,propylene glycol and ethylene glycol enters ones mouth would that be permissible? Also toothpaste with Glycol (on its own) or polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol and ethylene glycol would that be okay to use? Bearing in mind one would rinse the toothpaste out.

Further I have seen you have mentioned glycerineGLYCEROL is permissible as it is subject to a complete chemical metamorphosis. Does this mean even if glycerineGLYCEROL enters ones mouth? Or is that something which should be avoided completely and only products with it in can be used insuring glycerineGLYCEROL does not enter ones mouth.

Is it permissible to keep a Tarantula as a pet?

As Salaamu alaikum

I would like to know if it is permissible to keep a Tarantula as a pet?

I know that spiders are thought of as very positively in Islam. I have heard that they have helped the Prophet (SAW) when being pursued by the enemy and also that dreams with large spiders usually have a positive meaning.

The Tarantula in question is a 'Chilean Rose' variety that are common household pets and are described as being quite docile and suitable for children. They are usually harmless and non-aggressive and their bite is non-toxic to humans (very rarely bite). The bite itself is no more harmful than a 'peck' from a bird or scratch from a cat.

They are, however, fed on a diet of live insects (crickets).
