Is the nikah valid if the name of the biological father of the girl is not mentioned in case the brides father missing or unknown or for any other reason. Please advise. Is it permissible to use adopted father’s name instead.
The bride’s father’s name does not have to be mentioned for the validity of Nikah. The name of the bride is sufficient. If the father’s name is mentioned, then the biological father’s name should be mentioned and not the adopted father’s name.
“Let your adopted children keep their family names. That is more just in the sight of Allah. But if you do not know their fathers, then they are ˹simply˺ your fellow believers and close associates. There is no blame on you for what you do by mistake, but ˹only˺ for what you do intentionally. And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Al Ahzab:5)
ولم يذكروا اسم أبيه إن كان الزوج حاضرًا وأشاروا إليه جاز
