Congregrate with Muslims who deny parts of the Qur'an

25 November, 2004

The Mufti,

Salaams,

In our country there is a group of Muslims who say:
1 Hazrat Eesa (as) is not coming back
2 That Sura 19 of Al Qur?an should be removed
3 Hadith was for ?back then? and not for today
4 The women need not cover their aura
5 Individuals could interpret the Qur?an for themselves.

This group also has a live band for Eid, nikah and other celebrations.

Is it permissible to continue associating with these Muslims for Eid and other occasions to ?keep the unity of the Deen??

Sincerely,

Ashmead M. Ali

Taqleed, Ijtihad & Madahabs

QUESTION:
As Salam Walikum, Questions regarding Taqleed, Ijtihad & Madahabs

1. When answering this issue in the past you?ve used both logic & Quran/Hadith. But when explaining to many people i.e. 'Ahl-Hadith' 'Salafis', they reject any type of logic. When you corner them, they say this deen is not based on logic. And they have their own interpretations of the Quranic verses & Hadith which you quote in regards to taqleed. So please can you provide me with quotes & names of renowned scholars whom they too accept from the early centuries who have said a)Taqleed is wajib on the layman. b)Wajib to stick to the opinion of one imam. c)Wajib to follow 1 of the 4 schools of thought. (Please be as detailed as possible).

2. They say it?s incorrect to claim it is wajib to follow a madhab because this means those who are not will be at a state of sin and will go hellfire. How do I respond to this?

3. It seems that there are no Hanafi ulema active in helping us in this issue? There are only a few books in English we can resort to, other than that we have no support from the onslaught of the salafi dawah. Only recently in our locality we were condemned for praying 20 Rak?ats for Tarawih which according to them is a ?REPREHENSIBLE BIDAH?. Most of us do not have the time or capability to research into depth regarding each & every controversial issue of Fiqh the salafis bring up & we can?t seek help directly from Hanafi ulema as they are not as available as the salafi imams in Greater London. Hanafi imams in our locality seem to be quiet in this issue and as a result the salafis are harassing many & have dulled many people.

Just a few questions

Asalmualikum

My name is Amjid. I just have a couple of questions that i would like to ask.

Firstly in regard to the allegations regarding the ulema of deoband (i.e. Maulana Qasim Nanotvi, Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi, Maulana Rashid Ahmed Gangohi - may Allah (SWT) have mercy on them all). The group that degrade these ulema use references from the books that have been written by the above ulema. Now what i want to know is are these books availabe to read in English (also i don't remember all the book names, that they use. I know some of the books that they mention have never been written by the above ulema. But if you could inform me of thier availaibity.

The other questions are, is there any darul - ulooms that teach aalim courses in English, even distant learning. I am currently learning from ulema who are connected with hijaz college in Coventry (its like an Alim course.) The teaching there is very good, and very similar to the opinion of the our ulema (i.e. deoband) but there are obvious differences (deobandi-braelvi), they are however very knowledgeable and aren't ignorant like some of the self appointed pirs are. There is however some other factors, such as some of the arrangements i don't fully find comfortable. As a result of this i'm not sure if i want to carry on with them next year, but i don't want to leave unless I have a better option

Bear with me maulana this is the last question, I am a writer, and i was wondering if there are any magazines/sites/newspapers (Islamic) that you could give me contact information for so that i could post some articles. If they are interested of course.

Jazak - Allah Khair for your time and effort.

May Allah (SWT) reward the ulema for thier efforts.

Seeking Knowledge

My question is regarding seeking knowledge in relation to the position of the awam.

Taleed is agreed upon as wajib for the aammi. ijtihad is haram for him because he does not have the requisite tools. If he studies the dalil for interpreting he is in danger of harming himself and others. So where does that leave him in terms of seeking knowledge? What I mean is? I have friends in my locality who go to regular fiqh classes. Currently they are studying Hanbali fiqh then they will proceed to Shafi. They are studying the evidence for each masalah. They choose which one they feel is the strongest. As a follower of the haniafi school, what should I do, as they ask me to join. I am under the impression that those who wish to seek knowledge should do it in the proper structure i.e. learn the rules of jurisprudence (nasikh/mansuk, balagah, learning the Arabic language etc,) before learning the dalil. I heard ibn wahbin a muhaditteen, he memorized so many hadiths that he became really confused, because of they many indications of the hadiths. So where does it leave the lay person in this country who wishes just to practice Islam. It is obligatory for everyone to seek knowledge but what knowledge? Please comment?

Disagreeing

If you come across a law within shariah that you disagree with, does this evalidate your iman?

What should one do or pray if this happens?

ANSWERED: wahdatul wujood

Salam,

i really did not want to ask this, but i have to. I am told that it is haram to believe in this concept and those who completely believe that Allah (swt) is in his creation are mushrik. But then at the same time many ulema have upheld the notion of wahdatul wujood - but on what basis can they hold this up, and also one can ask why bring such an issue into aqeedah because it is not something which is found in the times of the salaf or in places like Aqida Thahawiyyah? Also, are there different variants of this?

ANSWERED: calling on other than Allah (swt)

Salam,

I keep on reading contradictory fatwa on this issue. Please clarify if it is shirk, haram or allowed to say things like "ya shaykh maddad", "ya rasul maddad", "ya ali maddad", "ya abu bakr maddad" "ya uthman maddad" "ya umar maddad" "ya abdul qadir maddad" etc etc

The following says it's okay, but others like mufti desai say its shirk!

Wudhu broken during jamah salah?

Assala-mualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu
If I am in a masjid praying salaah with everyone else, then i suddenly break my wudhu, what do I do? I heard that you should stop salaah and sit. But my problem is, is that if I sit, then brothers that see me sit in salaah they will joke around with me after salaah. For this reason, could I carry on my sallah?
