Assalamu'alaykum I have a friend who is an Israelite. She is looking in to Islam and cant seem to understand a few things about the history of Islam. I am not sure what information to give her and for this reason I am hoping you are able to shed some light on the following topics and Insha Allah I can forward the information to her as she continues her journey towards finding Islam. 1) Who does Allah's covenant lie with, Ismaeel a.s or Ishaaq a.s? Can you please give some information regarding the proof of this? 2) As an Israelite, they claim to be the children of Israel, also referred to as Bani Israel in the Quraan. My friend has mentioned to me that in the Quraan Allah has mentioned that the the Israelites were amongst His most loved people, her question is, why did Allah abandon them? 3) I understand Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) was commanded by Allah to marry Hadhrat Aisha ra at the age of 6 and their marriage was consummated when she was aged 9, There is hadith in sahih bukhari that mentioned that Aisha ra was still at a stage in her life where she would play with dolls, just like a child, whilst being married to our beloved Nabi. How do I explain this to her? As in this day and age a 9 year old is a small child and it is difficult to comprehend why Allah would order the Nabi to do this. 4) In Surah An nisa there is a verse regarding ones wife where it is advised 'But if they still persist, then discipline them gently' Is Allah giving the husband permission to physically harm his wife? I understand the term 'Gently' is used, however, this can be taken out of context as men in this day and age will pick and choose which words from the Quraan suit them. Why would Allah allow a man to put his hands on his wife, even if it is gently?

1) The covenant lies with all the Prophets, as Allah states,

“And remember when We took a covenant from the prophets, as well as from you O Prophet, and from Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, son of Mary. We did take a solemn covenant from all of them.” (33:7)

“Say (O Muslims): We believe in Allah and that which is revealed unto us and that which was revealed unto Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the tribes, and that which Moses and Jesus received, and that which the prophets received from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and unto Him we have surrendered.”(2:136)

2) Allah states in the Quran:

“They were stricken with disgrace and misery, and they invited the displeasure of Allah for rejecting Allah’s signs and unjustly killing the prophets. This is a fair reward for their disobedience and violations.“(2:61)

“We raised the Mount over them as a warning for breaking their covenant and said, “Enter the gate of Jerusalem with humility.” We also warned them, “Do not break the Sabbath,” and took from them a firm covenant.”

“They were condemned for breaking their covenant, rejecting Allah’s signs, killing the prophets unjustly, and for saying, “Our hearts are unreceptive!” it is Allah Who has sealed their hearts for their disbelief, so they do not believe except for a few—

“and for their denial and outrageous accusation against Mary and for boasting, “We killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of Allah.” But they neither killed nor crucified him—it was only made to appear so. Even those who argue for this crucifixion are in doubt. They have no knowledge whatsoever—only making assumptions. They certainly did not kill him. Rather, Allah raised him up to Himself. And Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.

“Every one of the People of the Book will definitely believe in him before his death. And on the Day of Judgment Jesus will be a witness against them.”

“We forbade the Jews certain foods that had been lawful to them for their wrongdoing, and for hindering many from the Way of Allah,”

“taking interest despite its prohibition, and consuming people’s wealth unjustly. We have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful punishment.”

(4:154-161)

3) Allah had guided Prophet (صلي الله عليه وسلم) to marry ‘Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her).

He saw a dream about marrying her. It is proven in al-Bukhari from the Hadith of ‘Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (صلي الله عليه وسلم) said to her: “You were shown to me twice in a dream. I saw that you were wrapped in a piece of silk, and it was said, ‘This is your wife.’ I uncovered her and saw that it was you. I said, ‘If this is from Allah then it will come to pass.’” (زاد المعاد ٣٤)

Also, usually in hot countries adolescence comes early and people marry early. This is how the people of Arabia were until recently. It was also a custom to marry early in such countries. Moreover, women vary greatly in their development and their physical readiness for marriage. (Islamqa.Info)

4) This means a light tap on the body. This is never to cause any harm nor to humiliate her but to remind her of rights and obligations towards her husband and save herself from divorce.

And Allah knows best
