Imam Yahya ibn Ma'een (rahmatullahi alaih) (passed away 233 A.H.) was a famous saint, Muhaddith and expert of Rijaal (critical analysis of the narrators of ahadeeth). He taught Imam Bukhari (rahmatullahi alaih) and other muhadditheen, and Imam Bukhari (rahmatullahi alaih) has the following to say about him, "I have never seen myself belittled (in terms of knowledge) in front of anyone other than Yahya ibn Ma'een (rahmatullahi alaih)."

This same Yahya ibn Ma'een (rahmatullahi alaih) attests to the great calibre of Imam Abu Haneefah (rahmatullahi alaih) and says, "He is thiqa (reliable) and trustworthy and I have never heard anyone who regards him to be a weak narrator." [Umdatul Qaari, volume 3, page 66]

He also mentioned that the best fiqh in his estimation is that of Imaam Abu Haneefah (rahmatullahi alaih).

It is also narrated in Manaqib Abu Bakr Ibn Muhammad Zaranjari that Imam Sahib rahmatullahi alaih was once seated in the Masjid at Kufa when the Shaytan Tariq Rafidhi (a Shi'ah) appeared before him and remarked: "Abu Hanifah! "Who is the most powerful and intense of all people?" Imam Sahib replied: "According to our beliefs it is Hadrat 'Ali Ibn Abi Talib whilst according to your beliefs, it is Hadrat Abu Bakr ." The Shaytan Tariq said: "No, you have turned it the other way about."

To this Imam Sahib rahmatullahi alaih replied: "According to us, the most powerful and intense is Hadrat 'Ali (radiallahu anh) because he was confident that the right of Khilafat devolves upon Abu Bakr (radiallahu anh). This is why he submitted to his Khilafat. However, according to you, Hadrat 'Ali (radiallahu anh) was most eligible for this right but Hadrat Abu Bakr (radiallahu anh) usurped this right and Hadrat 'Ali (radiallahu anh) was powerless to receive this right. Hadrat Abu Bakr (radiallahu anh) vanquished him. Hence, according to your belief, Hadrat Abu Bakr (radiallahu anh) is the most powerful of all people."

On hearing this deduction, Shaytan Tariq was left speechless and he made a swift getaway.

Asslamo Allaikum Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh ,

Shaykh Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani (RA) has written his magnum opus named "Al-Fathul-Bari" which is a commentary on Saheeh Bukhari. In it the following facts are mentioned.

1) Imam Bukhari (RA) compiled his Saheeh Al-Bukahri over 40 years

2) Imam Bukhari (RA) analysed over 600,000 Ahadeeth

3) Imam Bukhari (RA) chose 7397 Ahadeeth in his book entitled "Saheeh Bukhari"

4) Imam Bukhari (RA) mentions 2602 Ahadeeth which are UNIQUE and NOT REPEATED

5) Imam Bukhari (RA) mentions 22 Ahadeeth which are termed as "Thulathiyaat" meaning that there are ONLY 3 Narrations between Imam Bukhari (RA) & Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam)

6) Imam Bukhari (RA) calls these 22 "his pride"

7) Out of these 22, 11 ARE CONFIRMED narrated by Sayyidina Makki Ibn Ibraheem (RA) who was a student of Imam Abu Haneefa (RA), Imam Malik (RA), Imam Auzai (RA) and many great Imams but he singles out his teacher Imam Abu Haneefa (RA) and says, "İmam Abu Hanifa was the most knowledgeable person of his time."

Amazing praise from an outstanding Master of Hadeeth (i.e. Sayyidina Makki Ibn Ibraheem (RA)) and teacher of Imam Bukhari (RA) from whom half of the pride (11 out of 22) are taken!
