Ramadan begins on the 9th month of the lunar year. Also, traditionally, the beginning of Ramadan is decreed when a religious sees the first crescent moon.

It is undoubtedly useful to mention here that the recitation of the Quran by a woman who is menstruating, whether by memory or by means other than a printed copy of the Quran, is a subject of discrepancy between ulemas. Most of the ulemas are of the opinion that this is forbidden whereas the imams Mâlik and Ahmad according to a version adopted by Sheikh al-Islâm ibn Taymiyya and the sheikh Ibn Bâz may Allah have mercy on them, think that it is permissible to the woman having her menses to recite the Quran. Sheikh al-Islâm Ibn Taymiyya, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "There is nothing in the Sunnah that indicates that the woman who has her periods cannot read the Koran and the hadith" The woman having her periods periods and the person in a state of major ritual impurity cannot recite the Quran"is judged Da'îf (weak) by all specialists in the field. Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, said: “Among the things they are allowed to include is reciting the Quran during their periods, because they cannot make up for this missed reading time during their period. period of purity. However, if the woman were forbidden to recite the Koran during this period, she would lose the benefit of reading it and she would probably forget what she memorized from the Koran outside of her period of menstruation. This is the opinion of Imam Mâlik and one of the opinions reported by Imams Ahmad and al-Châfi'î, may Allah have mercy on them all. The Prophet () did not forbid the woman who is menstruating to recite the Qur'an and the following hadith is not authentic: "The woman having her period and the person in a state of major ritual impurity cannot recite the Quran. " This is a hadith qualified as Ma'lûl (defective) unanimously by the ulemas of the hadith. "
He was Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, who made us raise our eyes from the dust beneath to view the glory of the starry heavens above. It was Muhammad who led us from the depths of darkness to the grandeur of the light of God.
The Prophet was the one who led us to break our stone statues and wooden gods. It was Muhammad who lifted us out of the filth of idolatry to relish the serenity of God’s transcendence.
On the Night of Power in one Ramadan, the Quran descended on Muhammad, and he received its first verses in the Cave of Hira. (Ibn Abbas)
Thereafter the Prophet taught us how to celebrate Ramadan through days of fasting and nights of prayer: to honor each day of Ramadan as a day of patient endurance through fasting, and each night as a night of gratitude through prayers.
An Unexpected Transformation
It was nothing short of miraculous how the Prophet reformed and refined those unruly tribes of Arabia and transformed them into pious, disciplined, God-fearing ascetics, who stood in prayers in the mosque five times a day seeking the guidance of God.
And imagine: these same people who once reveled in the pleasures of “wine and women†could now spend the whole month of Ramadan in fasting and prayers.
Into the hearts of his followers, the Prophet instilled the love and fear of God and love for humanity. His example was inspiring and irresistible; and each of them became eager to be his closest follower.
To them he was the sincerest and the most cordial of leaders. And his life was open before them like a book; they could see him practicing most closely in his own life what he was preaching.

Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him):
Allah's Apostle said:
For every prophet there is one (special invocation (that will not be rejected) with which he appeals (to Allah)
and I want to keep such an invocation for interceding
for my followers in the Hereafter.

Narrated Al-Mughira bin Shu'ba (may Allah be pleased with him):
The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to pray so much that his feet used to become edematous or swollen, and when he was asked as to why he prays so much, he would say,
"Shall I not be a thankful slave (to Allah)?"
Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Decree or Night of Power, is one of the most sacred nights in the Islamic calendar. It takes place in the last ten days of Ramadan and was the night in which the Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
It is also believed to be the night in which Allah shows great mercy to His creation and the night in which one’s fate is decreed.
Allah says in the Qur’an, “The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months,†(Qur’an, 97:3). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever prays on Laylatul Qadr out of faith and sincerity, shall have all their past sins forgiven,†(Hadith, Bukhari and Muslim).
Sincerely praying for forgiveness, reciting the holy Qur’an, sending salawat (blessings upon the Prophet) and offering optional (nafl) prayers are examples of beneficial acts of worship on these nights.
The exact date of Laylatul Qadr is unknown, although it is thought to occur on an odd night in the last ten days of Ramadan (e.g. the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27 or 29th night). The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Seek it in the last ten days, on the odd nights,†(Hadith, Bukhari and Muslim).
When Lady Aisha (may Allah be well pleased with her) asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) “O Messenger of Allah, if it is Laylatul Qadr, then what should I supplicate with?†he replied with the famous dua: “Allahumma, innaka Afuwwun Karimun, tuḥibbu al-afwa fa‘afu anna†– “O Allah, indeed You are Pardoning and Generous; You love to pardon, so pardon us.â€
Performing i’tikaf
Many Muslims choose to spend the last ten days of Ramadan in seclusion (i’tikaf), where one solely focuses on worshipping Allah and refrains from involvement in worldly affairs. It is a time to reflect, increase worship and to increase one’s religious knowledge, seeking closeness to Allah.
The sunnah is to remain in i’tikaf for ten days but as a minimum it can be one day and one night. I’tikaf is a great opportunity to reconnect with Allah in solitude. It is also a time to implement good religious practices which can be carried on throughout the whole year.
This seclusion usually takes place at the mosque but with many mosques closed this Ramadan amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, a secluded space within the home can be designated, free from noise and distractions if possible.
Giving sadaqa during the last ten nights
The last ten days of Ramadan are an opportunity to gain multiple rewards by giving sadaqa to those in need for the sake of seeking the pleasure of Allah.
The rewards of giving sadaqa during Ramadan are multiplied by 70 and the reward for any righteous act during Laylatul Qadr is equivalent to having performed the same act for over 83 years!
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said “Sadaqa extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire,†(Hadith, Tirmidhi). He also said that Allah offers relief on the Day of Judgement for those who give sadaqa: “The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be their charity,†(Hadith, Tirmidhi).
Give generously before Ramadan comes to an end and provide relief to those lives have been torn apart by war, famine and natural disaster. Show mercy to others so that Allah may show mercy to you.

The month of Ramadan is almost upon us, and its arrival is very important for all Muslims. He is something they hold dear, as they long for and await His arrival.
They rejoice when it is near and give each other good tidings when it actually arrives, because they know about this great blessed month and the great benefits and unique qualities that are special to this month and set it apart from the other months of the year differentiate.
Whoever Allah grants honor and extends his term and extends his lifetime to reach and meet this noble month, it is a great blessing for the person to participate and reap the fruits of this great and blessed time . This time of obedience, faith and seeking closeness to the god
During Ramadan, healthy Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, but children, the disabled, travellers, and those who are physically or mentally ill or pregnant are exempt. The fast, which is one of the five pillars of Islam, includes abstaining from food, drink, smoking, and sex during daylight hours.
“O believers! Fasting is prescribed for you—as it was for those before you1—so perhaps you will become mindful ˹of Allah†__ Al-Baqarah – Verse 183.
If you cannot fast, then you can break the fast. You will then have to compensate for the days that you were unable to fast with others of the same number when you are able to fast, by virtue of the verse:
“for days few in number. However, should any one of you be sick or on a journey, then (he should fast) a number of other days (equal to the missed ones); and those who have the strength, (still, they do not opt for fasting,) on them there is a fidyah (compensation), that is, the feeding of a poor person.Then whoever does good voluntarily, that is better for him. However, that you fast is better for you, if you only knew.. » (Quran 2/184).
“Ramaá¸Ã¢n is the month in which the Quran was revealed as a guide for humanity with clear proofs of guidance and the standard ˹to distinguish between right and wrong˺. So whoever is present this month, let them fast. But whoever is ill or on a journey, then ˹let them fast˺ an equal number of days ˹after Ramaá¸Ã¢n˺. Allah intends ease for you, not hardship, so that you may complete the prescribed period and proclaim the greatness of Allah for guiding you, and perhaps you will be gratefulâ€. __ Al-Baqarah – Verse 185.
The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, mentioned the great reward for fasting during Ramadan
Allah’s Messenger said, “Allah said, ‘All the deeds of Adam’s sons (people) are for them, except fasting which is for Me, and I will give the reward for it.’ Fasting is a shield or protection from the fire and from committing sins. If one of you is fasting, he should avoid sexual relation with his wife and quarreling, and if somebody should fight or quarrel with him, he should say, ‘I am fasting.’ By Him in Whose Hands my soul is’ The unpleasant smell coming out from the mouth of a fasting person is better in the sight of Allah than the smell of musk. There are two pleasures for the fasting person, one at the time of breaking his fast, and the other at the time when he will meet his Lord; then he will be pleased because of his fasting.†__ Sahih al-Bukhari
That Christ, peace be upon him, fasted for forty days
All Christian fasts are influenced by the pagan nations, especially the Indians, Persians, Greeks and Babylonians

Ramadan has always been a positive turning point in the lives of many Muslims.
Narrated by Abu Hurairah, May Allah be Pleased with Him said:
"The Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) ascended the Minbar (Pulpit) and said: “Ameen, ameen, ameen.” It was said: ‘O Messenger of Allaah, you ascended the Minbar (Pulpit) and said, ‘Ameen, ameen, ameen.” He said: “Jibreel (Peace be upon him) came to me and said: ‘If Ramadaan comes and a person is not forgiven, he will enter Hell and Allah will cast him far away. Say Ameen.’ So I said Ameen. He said: ‘O Muhammad, if both or one of a person’s parents are alive and he does not honour them and he dies, he will enter Hell and Allah will cast him far away. Say Ameen.’ So I said Ameen. He said: ‘If you are mentioned in a person’s presence and he does not send blessings upon you and he dies, he will enter Hell and Allah will cast him far away. Say Ameen.’ So I said Ameen.”
Narrated by Ibn Hibbaan, 3/188; classed as saheeh by al-Shaykh al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1679.
This means that Ramadan should be a turning point in the life of every Muslim: a turning point from sins to repentance, from negligence to diligence, from deviation to guidance and from leaning on the life of this world to hastening towards the Paradise of the Hereafter.
Things That Don’t Break Your Fast
• Accidentally drinking or eating.
• Brushing your teeth unintentionally. means swallowing water / toothpaste when gargling.
• Taking a shower.
• Swallowing your saliva.
• Vomiting unintentionally.
• Insertion of medical instruments.
• Anesthetic gases or oxygen as long as it doesn’t provide you with nourishment.
Does Listening to Music Break Your Fast?
Even though listening to music doesn’t break your fast, it is highly discouraged as it goes against the spirit of Ramadan and Islam.
Does Arguing Break Your Fast?
No, arguing doesn’t break your fast. However, observing a fast is all about being patient. Therefore, if you are in a state of anger, it is advised to distance yourself from people until you calm down.
Does Showering Break Your Fast?
Ideally, no, showering does not break your fast. However, when taking a bath, ensure not to take in any water.

Ramadan teaches us to be grateful by giving zakat and Sadaqah and to be kind and patient individuals. Therefore, Muslims are advised to refrain from drinking, smoking, eating, vomiting, Hajamah, masturbation, and sexual intercourse as they can invalidate your fast.
