By Maulana Muhammad Saleem Dohrat

Simple yet not acted upon.

Different Departments Of Serving Din

There are several departments of serving Din. Writing and compiling books is one department. The khanqah is another department. The establishment and
maintenance of masajid is another department. The madaris is another department. There are other departments as well. Some people invite non-Muslims to Islam and explain the teachings of Islam to them. This is also Da'wat and is a veiy lofty work. The present day work of Da'wat and Tabllgh is also an effective way of attaching people to Din. Allah ta'ala instilled this method in the heart of Hadrat Maulana Ilyas Sahib rahimahullah and - all praise is due to Allah ta'ala - it
became very popular.

Shaytan’s Trap

Shaytan causes us to fight against each other in order to deprive us of Allah’s help when carrying out all these works. He causes us to have evil thoughts about each other. Shaytan wants to deprive us of the Paradise which is promised as a result of serving Din by day and night. This is why he creates a type of dislike in our
hearts towards others. He causes us to scorn them and hate them. This results in evil thoughts, backbiting and
accusations. Consequently, whatever progress we made is all destroyed. My dear brothers! Do you think Shaytan
ever wants us to be successful?

When All Departments Are Friendly Towards Each Other

Imagine if all the departments of Din were to support and assist each other! How good it would have been! The
people of one department would work on people according to their line of work and say to them: “You must come to us and such and such Dini need of yours
will be fulfilled by us. However, you have other Dini needs as well. In order for you to realize them, you will have to go to such and such place, and such and such
person.” Imagine how much the Muslim community will benefit if we were to do this! Imagine how we will progress in the line of Din! Imagine how Din will
proliferate!

Unfortunately, Shaytan does not allow us to work with love and unity. He knows that if we join hands and work together, perfect human beings like those who were
present in the era of the Sahabah radiyallahu 'anhum will come to the fore today. Din will become common
and misguidance will disappear from the world.

...........

Aid Each Other In Deeni Works

People of the different departments of Din must aid and support each other. Da'wat means to invite people to Allah ta'ala and to call them towards Din. What are we
doing at present? What are we explaining to you at the moment? We are explaining Din to you. We are calling you towards Allah ta'ala and towards Din.

Anyone who speaks about Din, whether an 'alim or a non-'alim, whether by going out in Da'wat and Tabllgh or by staying at home, in the form of the khanqah, in
the form of teaching, in the form of issuing fatwas, by reading a book - whether Fada’il-e-A'mal or any other
book - in the form of Qur’an lessons or Hadlth lessons, in the form of assemblies of self-purification and rectification, in the form of writing and compiling books,
in the form of magazines and other literature, in the form of conferences, ijtima' or in the form of seminars -
no matter what form it takes - as long as the beliefs are correct, the views and thought processes are correct,
then this is the work of inviting towards Allah ta'ala, it is the work of tabllgh. For each of these works we must have good hopes in our hearts, we must support them, and take a part in them.

…................

Hadrat Maulana Abul Hasan 'Ali Nadwi Sahib

It is compulsory to invite people towards Allah ta'ala and towards Din. This could be done individually, collectively, by word, by the pen, in public or in private... there is no specific methodology. Thus, every
individual and every group doing the work of inviting towards Allah ta'dla has the right to choose a method which it considers to be correct for the situation in
which it is working. It can follow a methodology for its efforts which it considers to be most suitable and
beneficial. No one has the right to label one as permissible and another as impermissible, or to place obstacles in this regard as long as there is no element in
it which is against the Shari'ah or harmful to the objectives of Din.

On the claim that TJ has enjoyed unanimous acceptance of ulama (scholars) since inception, Mufti Saeed Khan (Islamabad) HA tells us about two senior scholars who had severe reservations about the work of Maulana Ilyas RA.

Maulana Ashraf Ali RA objected to allowing non scholars to preach from the mimbar (pulpit) of mosques.

Maulana Ashiq Ilahi Meeruthi RA (biographer of Maulana Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi RA) objected to Maulana Ilyas RA promoting the work of TJ as the most important work of Deen.

Mufti Mahmood Hasan Gangohi RA received a query at DU Deoband with the claim that some followers of Maulana Ilyas RA claimed that since the work of TJ was ilhami (inspired), it was above reproach. Mufti Mahmood Hasan Gangohi RA strongly refuted such baseless claims, and this fatwa is published in Fatawa Mahmoodiya.

There have always been some tussles between Taleem, Tazkiya, and Tableegh, and these are all efforts that are continually being refined in their respective ages to cater to changing circumstances.

I fail to understand why there must be a tussle between
  • Taleem,
  • Tazkiya, and
  • Tableegh

These are parallel lanes, there is no competition, no race, all are equally important for deen. No one gets elevated from one lesser group to other superior group.

With what has been circulating about Mufti Saeed Khan on Pakistani Twitter circles, I'd doubt the common public will be paying attention to whatever he says. Only his devoted followers will now be heeding him.

Anyways, the doubts of well-known ulema at the time of Maulana Ilyas رحمة الله عليه are quite widely known. But most of them came around in the end so it's not important to focus on that ikhtilaf.

Maulana Ilyas رحمة الله عليه himself said something to the effect that first they will oppose us, then they will copy us, then they will join us. They here, not being anyone in particular but in a general sense.

This is Certificate of approval given to Maulana Ilyas sahib RA by Hakeemul ummat Thanvi RA on effort of tableegh.

Initially Hakeemul ummat RA feared that Tableeghi jamaat is a fitnah

Note: Insha Allah I will post Maulana Aashiq Elahi RA views about TJ.

Hindsight is always 20/20.

A study of historical accounts tells us that there are times when there are disagreements between giants of ilm, tazkiya, dawat, jihad. With time the disagreements get tempered, but when people are in the midst of such turbulent episodes, they will obviously feel some anxiety.

Mufti Saeed Khan HA is a gem of a scholar, with impeccable asnad (chains of transmission) in his ilm and tazkiya. This does not mean that he is infallible and he may convey a minority/mistaken opinion once in a while. This can never take away from his other tremendous contributions.

There is a perspective in which Mufti Sahab HA expressed these views because he interacts with many people who come to him on the verge of ilhad. His intended audience is these people who are otherwise overwhelmed by "rationalism" because of their inclination to Western thought.

Have a good opinion about ALL scholars until they espouse OPEN KUFR because each scholar works in a certain setting and their work may not resonate with people who come from a different milieu.

It is at times like these that I miss the clarity that our beloved Shaykh Muadh Khan would bring to such muddled issues. I've said this before and I will say it again without any reservations -- Shaykh Muadh Khan is the only reason I was able to keep my sanity when I was going through a crisis of faith. The brother was one of the pillars of this forum.

May Allah Taala reward Muadh Khan abundantly for his years of service online and offline.

Muadh_Khan is not banned. He is more than welcome to post on this forum.

He is not only silent on MS, he is silent on YouTube, Twitter and other places where he interacts (as far as I'm aware). He is no longer as active as he used to be online. Offline, Allah knows best. But Alhumdulillah, he is well inshaAllah.

Once during visit to South Africa, local tablighi elders and scholars met Mufti sahib and told him.
"Here in our country one Shaykh writes against Tableeghi jamaat. We must meet him and clear his doubts. We must send a delegation of ulema from Tasawwuf who are engaged in tableeghi Jamaat. May be these ulema can convince the Shaykh."

Reacting to this one local Aalim suggested that it is not going help. He tried it, but could not stop the shaykh.

Hazrath Mufti sahib said "My opinion is that we must not speak to the shaykh and we shall continue with our tableeghi A'amaal. Shaykh is doing this thinking that it is his obligation. More we try to stop him, more will be the opposition from him.. You keep yourself busy with your activities and let him do his job.

The title says it all -- "workers should not pay any heed to the objections from scholars, but continue to do their own work uninterrupted."

This is what we have always observed in our TJ akabir.

And this is precisely what i was alluding to when i said taleem, tazkiya, tabligh, jihad have always had and will always have some flashpoint issues. TJ workers are encouraged to sidestep these objections and continue their work with unwavering conviction.

The issues that Taleem, Tazkiya, Tabligh and Jihad have had with each other has mostly been based on misunderstanding of each other's points of view and the fact that the common man always judges based on what the common people associated with these efforts are saying rather than what the elders and ulema of these efforts say. If people took their time to understand how the elders have outlined the adaab for these efforts, I am positive there would be almost no conflict. But I guess with this ummah, conflicts of such types are a blessing.

Why non-Aalim Tablighis give talk in presence of An Aalim

Ustaad ulema in Darul uloom deoband raised objections on non-Aalim Tablighis giving talk in presence of an Aalim.

Mufti sahib replied, let us visit markaz and request Maulana Inamul Hasan RA to clear this doubt.

The ustaad ulema insisted that Mufti sahib must reply to this.

Incidentally Annual Jalsa of locals to offer charity in the form of food grains, cereals and pulses (full year) was going on in Darul Uloom deoband.

Mufti sahib asked the teacher ulema," who gives talk in this gathering,a Shaykhul hadeeth, a mufassir, a mufti etc.? No!!. An common Aalim who can convince the common people on importance of ilm and supporting the Darul Uloom,... in simple words. And gathering must be motivated to offer charity for complete year.

Similarly in Tablighi Talks, a person who can convince the gathering to offer 40 days, 4 months, foreign jamaath and do tafaqquth of these groups is preferred to give talk in tablighi majalis. If the person has offered qurbani, he has the best motivating power to create zeal in the gathering to offer Qurbani and move in path of Allah. Moreover, the person giving talk is also common man like the brothers in the gathering, this motivates the gathering a lot, they think that a man like us, among us, a busy man.... he can offer qurbani, why not us.......

Ustaad uelma in Darul uloom were silent after mufti Sahib's reply.

I was reading a book quoted by a member here
In this is claimed that tableeghi journey is a picnic, enjoying and feasting.

Do they call the following trip the same:

One visiting TJ did tashkeel for 40 days in an African country. A group offered names, while doing tafaqquth the locals said they don't have money to self sponsor. But they asked for permission to earn and spend during their travel.

  • They started their journey by walk.
  • They used to move the new village before fajr.
  • After sunrise they go to the fields and requested the locals for any service in return for food items. They worked in fields till zuhr and in return received food items enough for a day. They consumed this for the whole day.
  • In the evening they visited the locals and invited them to masjid. Gave talk and prepared them to join their jamaath.
  • The locals were shocked and offered to host them for a few days.
  • Ikhlaas prevailed, they said "NO, we are moving to the next village in the morning.
