During the Jihad against the British in 1857, Shaykh (Maulana) Qasim Nanotwi (RA) also participated in person at the battleground of Shamli. The British regime had issued warrants of arrest (and financial reward for information leading to capture) for Haji Imdadullah Muhajir Makki (RA), Shaykh (Mufti) Rasheed Ahmed Gangohi (RA) and Shaykh (Maulana) Qasim Nanotwi (RA). People started searching for them to report them to the British and obtain the reward.
Allah (SWT) had blessed Shaykh (Maulana) Qasim Nanotwi (RA) with courage and special spiritual temperament which made him walk around openly and audaciously without fear of the consequences. However, relatives and well-wishers insisted on him to go into hiding for the sake of his safety. When their insistence became too much, Shaykh (Maulana) Qasim Nanotwi (RA) went into hiding and then abruptly came out 3 days later and continued his audacious day to day activities without fear (of consequences). When he was asked to go into hiding again, he (RA) responded, “It is not proven to be in hiding for more than 3 days because Sayyidina Rasul-ullah (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) kept himself hidden in the cave of Thaur during Hijrah (migration) for only 3 days”.
This shows the extreme love and dedication of Shaykh (Maulana) Qasim Nanotwi (RA) towards the Sunnah of Sayyidina Rasul-ullah (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) that he obeyed the tactics and methodology of Sayyidina Rasul-ullah (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) even at the time of great personal peril and danger.
