Sister Ummi Talib let me record my appreciation of the effort you are putting into developing this thread. At several occasions I have tried to go through the posts but never got the time and energy to complete the seven pages. Yet this is the type of work that I wish to be done by us. Of course theological threads and posts are part and parcel of Islam and I have nothing against those threads and posts and everything for them but my feeling is that work of people like us is incomplete till we develop an overview of the state of the Ummah today. You are focusing on Palestinian plight and that is among the most serious issues that Ummah faces today. Thank you for doing the needful.

The last two days has seen particularly harrowing. An 11 year old child being surrounded and attacked by 3-4 fully armed Isra-helli soldiers and dragged away! The child must have been so scared he wet himself. This must have been so traumatising as the pictures were all over social media (though sensored) it had to be shown to the world.

If it had been anywhere in the world it would have been on the news but total, absolute silence from mainstream media!

The child Sufian Al-Natsheh talks to Al-Jazeera about his barbaric arrest by the occupation soldiers in the city of Hebron.

Quick translation provided by @dawntjeshannon:

The boy is saying he's 10 years old and that he was arrested by 7 police officers for throwing stones. They beat him while arresting him, and one punch to the stomach made him lose control of his bladder. They held him for 3 hours in interrogation, his mother didn't know where he was or what had happened for hours...

5 Palestinians killed in last 24 hours

Five Palestinians were killed by Israeli occupation forces during military raids in Jenin and northwest Jerusalem, today.

These men had loved ones and families.

Zakariya was a father of two young boys.
Osama was set to celebrate his wedding next month.
Ahmed’s own brother was martyred 23 years ago.

At Al-Aqsa
Settlers try to storm the Al-Aqsa Mosque while they hang posters on their clothes with the occupation flag and the phrase “The Temple Mount is in our hands!”

The Temple Mount is the Zio.nist name for the site of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Settlers in Al-Masid Al-Aqsa

While the Occupation continues to suppress Palestinians at Al-Aqsa Mosque, settlers now insist on performing assaults and provocative prayers there as part of their continuous efforts to Judaize and control Al-Aqsa.

UK Labour Party votes for motion calling Israel an apartheid state

The UK Labour Party Conference has today voted in favour of a motion to identify Israel as a state practicing the crime of apartheid, making it the first major political party in Europe to adopt such a position. The motion commits the Labour party to implementing sanctions including ceasing UK-Israel arms trade and trade with illegal Israeli settlements.

"Conference condemns the ongoing Nakba in Palestine, Israel's militarised violence attacking the Al Aqsa mosque, the forced displacements from Sheikh Jarrah and the deadly assault on Gaza," said the motion

The motion noted reports by Human Rights Watch and B'Tselem, which earlier in the year reached a landmark conclusion that Israel was practising the crime of apartheid as defined by the UN. The two reports highlighted how Israel's systematic oppression of the Palestinian people amounted to the crime of apartheid.

Their conclusions echoed the findings of the UN and prominent experts on international law as well as two former Israeli ambassadors.

Labour members also welcomed the International Criminal Court's decision to hold an inquiry into abuses committed in the occupied Palestinian Territory since 2014.

Calling for a boycott of Israel the motion said: "Conference resolves that action is needed now due to Israel's continuing illegal actions and that Labour should adhere to an ethical policy on all UK trade with Israel, including stopping any arms trade used to violate Palestinian human rights and trade with illegal Israeli settlements."

"Conference resolves to support 'effective measures' including sanctions, as called for by Palestinian civil society, against actions by the Israeli government that are illegal according to international law," the motion continued noting, in particular, the need to "ensure that Israel stops the building of settlements, reverses any annexation, ends the occupation of the West Bank, the blockade of Gaza, brings down the Wall and respects the right of the Palestinian people, as enshrined in international law, to return to their homes."

It urged the Labour Party to "stand on the right side of history and abide by these resolutions in its policy, communications and political strategy".

Despite the adoption of the motion it is unclear how the leadership of the Labour party will react to such an unprecedented call. Party leader Keir Starmer has been locked in a bitter row with members who support the application of international law when it comes to the rights of the Palestinian people.

Bumping this thread to continue its awareness, It's not over!

Google and Amazon employees call on tech businesses to end contracts with Israel

An open letter has been written by Google and Amazon employees calling on the two companies to pull out of Project Nimbus

An anonymous letter by company workers condemns Project Nimbus

DUBAI: “We are Google and Amazon workers. We condemn Project Nimbus.” That is the headline of an open letter written by Google and Amazon employees who chose to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation.

Gabriel Schubiner, software engineer and researcher at Google and Bathool Syed, content strategist at Amazon, wrote in an op-ed on NBC News: “We’ve joined together as workers across corporate lines for the first time to send a joint letter Tuesday calling on Google and Amazon to respect Palestinian human rights and cancel Project Nimbus.”

The letter, signed by nearly 1,000 employees at Amazon and more than 600 at Google, calls on the two companies to pull out of Project Nimbus and cut all ties with the Israeli military.

“As more and more Palestinians are documenting Israeli human rights abuses on the ground, it’s no longer possible for the rest of the world to ignore the brutal reality of the Israeli occupation and military actions targeting civilians,” Nadim Nashif, Director, 7amleh — The Arab Center for the Advancement of Social Media, told Arab News.

“By participating in the creation of these technologies and providing them to the Israeli government, companies such as Google and Amazon are further entrenching and enhancing this illegal occupation, and legitimizing illegal military actions around the world,” said Nashif.

Project Nimbus is a $1.2 billion project where Google and Amazon are providing cloud services for Israel’s public sector and military.

“The Nimbus framework will provide cloud services to Israeli government ministries including local municipalities, government-owned companies, and public sector organizations with the aim of helping to accelerate digital transformation,” Amazon said in a statement issued earlier this year.

However, in the letter, the employees stated that Project Nimbus will enable the selling of “dangerous technology to the Israeli military and government.”

It added that Google and Amazon’s contracts with institutions such as the US Department of Defense, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other law enforcement departments, are “part of a disturbing pattern of militarization, lack of transparency and avoidance of oversight.”

Schubiner and Syed also alluded to the dangers of Project Nimbus in their op-ed, stating that their cloud services would help to facilitate the Israeli military’s control and persecution of Palestinians, demolition of Palestinian homes in the occupied Palestinian territories and attacks on Gaza.

“We cannot look the other way, as the products we build are used to deny Palestinians their basic rights, force Palestinians out of their homes and attack Palestinians in the Gaza Strip,” the employees said in their letter, which concluded with them condemning the Project Nimbus contract and asking the two companies to reject this and other contracts that would harm users.

The workers also called on other employees from around the world in the technology industry to join them “in building a world where technology promotes safety and dignity for all.”

“There’s a growing movement of Silicon Valley workers who are taking a stand and showing solidarity with marginalized communities whose lives are impacted by the increasing militarization of the technology space. Technology companies must listen to their employees, or risk facing the consequences of profiting from state-sanctioned human rights abuses,” said Nashif.
