The Mujahadeen where divided into different groups fought under different names. But all of them did it under the banner of Islam.

Some of the notable names from that era, Professor Burhanuddin Rabani a professor at Kabul University, and his commander Ahmed Shah Masood their group was know as the Jamiate e Islami, Rabani had a masters degree from Al Azhar university in Egypt wrote and translated some islamic works.

Gulbuddin Hikmatyar was a leader of Islamic student group at Kabul University and then formed the Hizb E Islami Gulbuddin, faction. Named after himself after the Hizb E Islami split into two. He wrote a book called ' The Priority Of Sense Over Matter' as a refutation of the communists denial of the Existence of God.

Maulana Yunus Khalis he was a graduate of Dar Ul Uloom Haqqania in KPK Pakistan. He was leader of Hezb E Islami Khalis faction and the legendary Maulana Jalaludin Haqqani was his military Commander and general.

Abdul Rab Rasool Sayyaf he was a Professor of the faculty of Shariat at Kabul University. And also holds a Masters Degree from Al Azhar. He is fluent in Arabic and was the leader of the Afghan Ikhwan Ul Muslimeen, he was also the main connection with the Foreign Arab Mujahedeen the likes of Abdullah Azam and Bin Laden.

Sighbatullah Mujadedi leader of the National Liberation Front, another graduate from Al Azhar he comes from long line of Scholars. He was the first person to call for Jihad against the communist Government in Afghanistan.

Mohammed Nabi Mohammedi, he was the leader of the Harkat E Inqilab E Islami. And was educated in local madrassahs in Logar province.

They formed the main Mujahedeen groups. After the defeat of the Soviets a civil war erupted between the Mujahedeen factions primarily those of Rabani, Sayyaf and Hikmatyar thousands were killed, as they fought for power and control divided by tribal, ethnic, and sectarian differences country was gripped by violence and lawlessness.

In 1994 the Taliban was formed by religious students as a vigilante movement to bring law and order to the country, they elected a little known local Mujahedeen commander by the name of Mullah Omar as their leader.

The rest is history.

Much more could be said point is the Mujahedeen factions during the conflict with Soviet Union were religiously observant, and they all fought under the banner of Islam. Most of their leaders had religious education and credentials, it's just the list for power and greed took over once the communists were defeated,

Secondly Soviet Union when it entered Afghanistan, was formidable military power even more so then America who had just a few years earlier suffered a humiliation in Vietnam.
The Soviets were openly declaring that they would take Afghanistan in six days and enter Pakistan on the 7th day.

ALLAH humiliated them and destroyed them and their empire at the hands of the Mujahedeen, in Afghanistan.

You seem to be giving credit to everyone bad economic situation of the Soviet Union for their defeat, American supply of weapons for their defeat. Everyone and anyone except ALLAH who gave victory and the Mujahedeen who fought died as Shahids in their tens of thousands against them .

As for Soviet Unions economic decline in the 1980's it was directly as a result of the War in Afghanistan which sucked the soviet coffers dry . As for Americans supplying major hi-tech weapons, most of the weapons supplied were basic over priced and payed for by the Saudis and Kuwaitis given to ISI in Pakistan who then charged the Mujahedeen a bribe for them. This was mentioned in an English lecture by the Arab Mujahid Shaykh Tamim Al Adnani.

And ALLAH knows best.

This leads onto the next question, the US and its allied occupied Afghanistan for about 20 years, (10 years more than the USSR) however they seem to be stronger than ever.

The USSR collapsed within 3 years of leaving Afghanistan and saw it drop it allies all round the world, the same cant be said of the US.

US national debt is 35 Trillion Dollar. and it has been insulated by the fact that U.S. Dollar is the global trading reserve currency.

With the emergence of BRICS things are slowly about to change.

That and the fact that Soviet Unions Communist economic system was unsustainable.

Even the Chinese had to modernise their system to create a hybrid capitalist economy.

Bro, US could be in zillions in debt, it means nothing and doesn't change the reality.

BRICS are full of basket case economies themselves.

Besides that.

The historians who study the rise and fall of empires often cite the moral decadence and debauchery that often leads to the decline of empires.

America is destroying itself.

According to the 2023 United States National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH):

48.5 million (16.7%) Americans (aged 12 and older) battled a substance use disorder in the past year.1
10.2% of Americans 12 and older had an alcohol use disorder in the past year.1
About 27.2 million Americans 12 or older (9.7%) reported battling a drug use disorder in the past year.1
That same year, 7.5 million (2.7%) of Americans 12 and older struggled with both alcohol and drug use disorders simultaneously.1
20.4 million American adults (7.9%) suffered from both a mental health disorder and a substance use disorder, or co-occurring disorders in the past year.1

The rise of homelessness entire cities that where tourist destinations across America have become homeless encampments. San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Honolulu in Hawai etc. some of the footage is just shocking.

Divorce, suicide, mental illness, pornography, sexual promiscuity, fatherless homes, the prison populations... I have not got time to go through all these but for example a child growing up in a single family house hold without a Father figure is more likely to get involved in anti-social behaviour, more so if one or more parent has an addiction problem, even greater if parents are involved in criminality.
To top things off they have the LGBTQ being promoted to the youth heavily.

The decline of a belief in a creator, the decline of the family and family values, the rise of moral decadence and debauchery means, America is probably one generation away from complete destruction.

And ALLAH knows best,

If that were the case, surely the Hezbi commanders would be using them for their meetings rather than in normal buildings that gets wiped out instantly.

Even Firaun had progressive punishments. One after another.

USSR didn't fall overnight. Like the Qaum e Aad, they boasted:

It is true that Americans are super power, their policeman is hitting hizbullah hard after receiving orders from muslim rulers. And Hizbullah will be finished.

But the unending atrocities and persecution of the weak will destroy the tyrannic lords. Remember USSR fell when it had nukes to destroy the whole world.

Regarding progressive punishment from Allah, the series of punishments have already reached the tyrannic nations. I was surprised that the Allah SWT had sent locusts, lice, frogs as punishments, (the weakest animals were used), what did they do, they destroyed firaun and his followers' peace of mind. Brother @Abdurrahmanbinauf has narrated those punishments on the western society which have internally destroyed the west, the west never reveals that.
