My question is regarding working in MNC,Corporate houses and other Big Firms.Almost all of them have some kind of dealing in interest be it direct or indirect such as interest received from Bank, interest received on Loans,Received from creditors etc.
I wanted to know wether if a muslim works in such a company as an employee would his income be considered halal or haram.
This question is of important and of urgent matter to me because lot of our muslim brothers after graduation an post graduation join these kind of firms.I am currently doing my graduation and I plan to pursue MBA after it and therefore in the near future I may land up finding a job in such kind of a firm and hence I want to know wether the incom would be halal or haram
Question I am currently working as software professional in a MNC based in Chennai. My nature of job is developing software for Banks (non-Islamic banks) on-top of a core banking system which revolves around writing programs for data manipulations/data storage of customer info, account info, transaction info and sometimes writing new programs to perform interest, tax, commission, charges calculation based on bank user input and all other processes done by a software in banks. I do not have any work experience in any other software field or industry other than my current job. So far my belief was that I work day and night and I am paid for my hard work not considering from which mode my salary is paid by the company as most of the companies in various fields pay salary to their employers from interest collected from banks. I would like to know whether my current job profile is halal or haram? Kindly explain me on the basis of Quran.

Since the software programmes you design contain programmes related to interest commission and you know it, hence it is makrooh to do a job in that company.

Title: I work in the IT Department of an MNC Bank in Singapore. Can I work in the IT dept. Let me know please.
Question Dear Mufti Sahab, My question is same as above. Can I work for an IT department in a bank. IT- Information Technology. Also kindly clarify regarding Question 7810 you had mentioned that muslims can work in south african banks.
Answer There is a difference between the case mentioned in q7810 and your situation.
The difference is that one situation is when you have already worked in a bank and received salary, and the second is to seek employment in a bank. To work in a bank is not permissible, because you are aiding in Haraam, but in order to save the salary of a Muslim, we will assume that it has been paid from the Halaal portfolio of the bank. This does not mean that it is permissible to work in a bank. thus, it will not be permissible to work in the IT department of the bank.
Question I work for a MNC as a software engineer. I work for payroll domain. So it does not involve any types of interest based transaction and I am not involved in any type of interest calculation. I have to generate only tax reports. But I have a doubt on my company. Actually, tax structure in US is very complicated so companies do not process payroll for their employees by themselves but assign it to payroll processing companies. Our company is also one of the payroll processing company. So they will get the money for the clients, deduct the tax and generate the pay-slips and tax reports and deposit the salary in the employees account. So if the salary date is 30th of November. They will ask the clients to deposit the money few days earlier say 26th of November. And this way earn the interest on the money of client. So my my earning is halal?
Answer
(Fatwa: 967/965/N=1433)
If the owner of your company is non-Muslim then the salary which you derive on your service is lawful and halal absolutely for you as the interest which a non-Muslim gets is halal for him and he becomes its owner (Baqiyat Fatawa Rashidiya p. 227 and Azizul Fatawa p. 598). And there will not come any malice due to earning interest from other’s money as that money has come under the risk of non-Muslim (owner of the company). But if the owner of the company is Muslim then it is wajib for him to give this interest money in charity. And in this case if the company gives you salary without the explanation of interest and does not reveal to you that the money which is given to you contains so and so money of interest – it is obvious that the company does not tell rather it is not necessary that it pays you the salary with interest money – then too your salary shall be lawful and acceptable. Do not have any doubt regarding your salary.
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
