Please could you clarify if we are supposed to recite the final 3 surahs and then blow into our hands and then pass them over our bodies OR should we blow into our hands first and then recite the final 3 surahs and then pass our hands over our bodies.
Answer: In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
It has been narrated in Bukhari and Muslim from `A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) that, "When the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) use to take his place of resting, he used to blow into his two hands and recite the Mu`awwadhat [Surah al-Ikhlas, al-Falaq, al-Naas] and pass and wipe his hands over the body.'
My question is "Is it permissible to drink tawaiz water and wear it around my neck if they have both numbers and Allah's name written on them.
I have some medical issues and one of te Molvi Sahab told us that despite of medical issues there is also some kind of amal on me . I am also having pain in my shoulders and he specifically mention this pain and gave some tawaiz which have numbers on them but they also have some Allah's name .I can only read some of them because of the writing .And there is also something written on the back of side of the tawaiz which is not readable . My concern is about the numbers written on them .If there were Allah's name only I would not have any doubt in my mind and I would use them. But I believe that Allah's name cannot be replaced by numbers. But in this case tawaiz have both numbers and Allah's name that makes me confuse.
Please advice me what to do? I will really appreciate your help and advice.

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatoh
Allah Tala says in the Noble Qurn, 'In the Qurn is (spir itual, physical) cure for people.'
The opening chapter of the Noble Qurn, Surah Faatiha is also called the chapter of Shifaa.
It is recorded in the Bukhari Shareef vol. 1 p. ,
'A ruler of a certain clan was stung by a creature, the people of the area requested the Sahaaba to cure him, one Sahaabi read Surah Faatiha and blew on the affected area and cured the ruler. The Prophet (Sallallaahu layhi Wasallam) even praised the Sahaabi for doing so.
From the above quotations, it is clear that the verses of the Noble Qurn is a means of cure.
Treating oneself w ith Taweez containing verses of the Qurn or numbers resembling verses of Quran or duas.is similar to treating oneself w ith medication. By using medication, one merely places his trust in Allah Tala and use the medication as a means of cure. The effect in the means is w ith the Will of Allah Tala so, too is the usage of the Taweez.
The art of making Taweez is a science independent to other known sciences. People who have studied this science are most knowledgeable to explain its vast understanding. One thing must be outlined at the outset is that anyone practising the making of Taweez cannot ascribe (in his method and application) partners w ith Allah Tala.
Any act of Kufr is unacceptable in Islam. The people during the time of Jaahiliyya had an incorrect belief that the stars and planets cause rainfall, but the Prophet (Sallallaahu layhi Wasallam) dismissed that. The drawings and illustrations used in Taweez are like the concepts used in geometry, etc. to arrive at a solution.
In conclusion, consider the following Had ith: Abu Khuzaymah (Radhiallaahu nhu) narrates from his father that he asked Rasulullah (Sallallaahu layhi Wasallam), 'Inform me about Rukan (blowing in water and Taweez), medication, and means of secur ity, does it change Taqdeer (predestination)? He replied, 'They (all the above) are within Taqdeer. (Mishkt pg. 22)

Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu 'alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Allāh Ta'ālā is the Creator of the entire universe. Everything is in the control of Almighty Allāh Ta'ālā. Allāh Ta'ālā has created certain positive and negative effects in His creation. For example, Allāh Ta'ālā has placed the effect of satiating hunger in food. Allāh Ta'ālā has created the effect of burning in fire. Similarly, Allāh Ta'ālā has created the effect of harming a person with the sight of some people. This is proven through the following Hadīth of Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alaihi Wa Sallam:
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: الْعَيْنُ حَقٌّ (سنن ابى داود، بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي الْعَيْنِ)

Hadhrat Abū Hurairah Radhiyallāhu Anhu narrates that Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alaihi Wa Sallam said, "The evil eye is Haqq (a reality)". (Sunan Abī Dāwūd)

Allāh Ta'ālā is the ultimate protector. Despite the evil effect of the eye, if one seeks the protection of Allāh from the evil eye, Allāh Ta'ālā will protect him. Hence, one should be punctual in reciting Duās proven from Hadīth that guarantee the protection of Allāh Ta'ālā. Consider the following Duās:

Rasūllullāh Sallallāhu Alaihi Wa Sallam said, "If a man recites the following Duā upon leaving his house, it is said to this person, "You have been guided, you have been sufficed for, and you have been protected."[1]
Transliteration: Bismillāhi Tawakkaltu A'lallāh Wa Lā Hawla Wa Lā Quwwata Illā Billāh
Translation: I (leave my house) in the name of Allāh. I have placed my trust in Allāh. There is no power or might except with Allāh.

Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alaihi Wa Sallam said, "Whosoever recites the following Duā three times every morning and every evening, nothing will harm him."[2]
Transliteration: Bismillāhilladhī Lā Ya Dhurru Ma'asmihi Shaiyun Fil-Ardhi Wa Lā Fis-Samāe Wa Huwas-Samīu'l-A'līm
Translation: In the name of Allāh, the One with whose name nothing in the heavens and earth can harm. And He is All-Hearing and All-Knowing.

Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alaihi Wa Sallam stated, "Recite Surah Ikhlās, Surah Falaq, and Surah Nās (the last three Surahs of the Qurān) three times morning and evening. This will be sufficient for you against everything. (Sunan Abī Dāwūd)[3]

Ibn Abbās Radhiyallāhu Anhu states that a man complained to Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alaihi Wa Sallam that he is often afflicted with calamities. Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alaihi Wa Sallam stated to him, "Recite the following Duā (once) in the mornings. Nothing will afflict you." The man recited these words and there were no more calamities. [4]

Transliteration: Bismillāhi A'lā Nafsī Wa Ahlī Wa Mālī
Translation: In the name of Allāh (I seek protection) for myself, my family and my wealth.

The evil eye can affect cars and houses just like it can affect human beings.[5] However, the name of Allāh Ta'ālā is most powerful. When someone or something is afflicted with the evil eye, then the name of Allāh and verses of Qurān should be recited and blown on the one or thing afflicted. It is proven from Hadīth that Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alaihi Wa Sallam would recite Sūrah Ikhlās, Surah Falaq, and Sūrah Nās followed by blowing on his hands and wiping over his body. This was the daily routine of Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alaihi Wa Sallam prior to sleeping.[6]

The Ulamā state that the following verses should be recited and blown on the person affected by the evil eye.[7]

And indeed the disbelievers seem to trip you up with their glances when they hear the Reminder, and say, "He is a madman indeed." And it is nothing else but a Reminder for all the worlds. (Surah al-Qalam, Verse No. 51-52)

This should not be confused with traditions of the Hindus. A Muslim blows only with the name of Allāh, verses of the Qurān, or a Duā proven from Hadīth. He does not recite anything else like people from another religion. Hence, it must be borne in mind that it is impermissible to recite something in a language other than Arabic and blow on the afflicted person. One must only recite the name of Allāh, verses of the Qurān, or Duās proven from Ahādīth.[8]
