Salaams.

I know gheebah is one, but does this also mean say all the salahs you've read and Hajs you performed, does reward of all that get taken away from you? Assuming one doesn't repent straight away of course.

EDIT.

Question
I would like to know of the actions, other than Shirk, that nullify all or some good deeds of a person.

Answer

(Fatwa: 685/674/N=1433)

According to Ahl Sunnah wa al-Jamah there are no sins which nullify the good deeds except kufr and shirk.

Question
Who are the ones who will come on the Day of Resurrection with good deeds like mountains but Allah will make them like scattered dust?

I have heard a hadith lately regarding the hidden sins that nullify all the good deeds in the day of judgment. I am very much concerned about this and wont to know if something more than repentance should be added to it.
The hadith is something like this "On the day of judgment people from my ummah will come with good deeds as mountines and Allah will make them parish. Then the sahabah asked who they are and Resulullah said "They are like you, they pray as you pray, fast as you fast, pray the night prayer as you pray, but when they are all alone, they do what is haram" I think that this is a sahih hadith and that is what makes me panic more.
Please advice me what should i do for the sins that i have done in the past.

Answer
Praise be to Allaah.
Firstly:

Ibn Maajah (4245) narrated from Thawbaan (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "I certainly know people of my ummah who will come on the Day of Resurrection with good deeds like the mountains of Tihaamah, but Allaah will make them like scattered dust." Thawbaan said: O Messenger of Allaah, describe them to us and tell us more, so that we will not become of them unknowingly. He said: "They are your brothers and from your race, worshipping at night as you do, but they will be people who, when they are alone, transgress the sacred limits of Allaah."

This is a saheeh hadeeth; it was classed as such by al-Buwaysari in Misbaah al-Zujaajah (4/246) and al-Albaani in al-Saheehah. Al-Mundhiri said in al-Targheeb wa'l-Tarheeb (3/170): Its narrators are thiqaat (trustworthy).

Ibn Hajar al-Haythami (may Allah have mercy on him) in al-Zawaajir (3/49) regarded it as pretending to be righteous outwardly and transgressing the sacred limits; even committing minor sins when one is alone is regarded as something major, and he quoted this hadeeth as evidence, and said: The one whose habit is to make a show of being good and concealing his evil ways causes more harm and misguidance to the Muslims, because he has no piety and no fear of Allah. End quote.

Secondly:

Repentance to Allah, if it is sincere, erases what came before it of sin, no matter what that sin is. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

"Verily, Allaah forgives not that partners should be set up with Him (in worship), but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He wills; and whoever sets up partners with Allaah in worship, he has indeed invented a tremendous sin"

[al-Nisa' 4:48]

"Say: 'O 'Ibaadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allaah, verily, Allaah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft‑Forgiving, Most Merciful.

54. 'And turn in repentance and in obedience with true Faith (Islamic Monotheism) to your Lord and submit to Him (in Islam) before the torment comes upon you, (and) then you will not be helped.

55. 'And follow the best of that which is sent down to you from your Lord (i.e. this Qur'aan, do what it orders you to do and keep away from what it forbids), before the torment comes on you suddenly while you perceive not!'

[al-Zumar 39:53-55].

Allaah listed the major sins and immoral actions which He and His righteous close friends disdain, then He said (interpretation of the meaning):

"Except those who repent and believe (in Islamic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds; for those, Allaah will change their sins into good deeds, and Allaah is Oft‑Forgiving, Most Merciful"

[al-Furqaan 25:68-70].

Al-Harawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

Repentance cannot be sound except with three things: restoring the rights of others, feeling regret for his sins and striving to make up for what he missed of good deeds.

Ibn al-Qayyim said:

Restoring the rights of others means: repenting from the sins that he committed against Allah, and paying off the dues that he owes to other people.

Feeling regret for his sins means: may be interpreted in two ways: (i) feeling sad for his sins, which is indicative of his turning back towards Allah, unlike one who is not upset by his sin, which is indicative of the corruption and deadening of his heart; (ii) being upset by his brother's sins, so that it is as if he is the one who has done it, and he does not rejoice in his brother's misfortune. This is indicative of the softening of his heart and his love of Allah.

Striving to make up for what he missed: this means catching up with what he has missed out on acts of worship and drawing close to Allah, by doing acts similar to them or better than them, especially for what is rest of his life, when the time of his meeting Allah draws near. End quote.

With reference to Gheebah, here is something new to me too:

Question
Assalamu Alaykum, I would like to know how gheebah is forgiven. Can it be forgiven by Allah(SWT) alone. Does gheebah apply to kafirs and munafiks. I appreciate your help!

Answer

It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Sa'eed and Jaabir
(Radhiallaahu Anhuma) that Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) mentioned,
'Gheebat (backbiting) is worse than committing Zina.' The Sahaaba
(Radhiallaahu Anhum) enquired the reason for that. Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) replied, 'When a person commits Zina and thereafter repents to
Allah Ta'ala, he is forgiven by Allah but a person who made Gheebat is not
forgiven by Allah until he is forgiven by the person whose Gheebat he made.'

It becomes apparent from the above Hadith that Gheebat is such a sin that
falls within the ambit of Huqooqul Ibaad (where the rights of a fellow being
is usuerped). Hence, it will be necessary to obtain forgiveness from the
persons whose Gheebat was made first and then only will one be forgiven by
Allah Ta'ala. However, according to some Ulama, if the Gheebat does not
reach the ears of the person, it will not come under Huqooqul Ibaad.
Therefore, it will not be necessary to ask him for forgiveness but together
with that, he will have to falsify what he had said about that particular
person (one whose Gheebat was made) to the person he said it to.

If that person has passed away or his whereabouts are not known, then we
have been taught in a Hadith reported by Hadhrat Anas (Radhiallaahu Anhu)
that Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, 'The recompense of Gheebat is
to supplicate to Allah Ta'ala for one's own forgiveness and for that of the
person whose Gheebat was made.' The Du'aa taught to us is, 'Allaahumma
ighfir lanaa.'

There is no sin attached to making Gheebat of Munaafiqs and Kaafirs, but why
should one engage himself in such a frivolous act? Rather, one should make
Dhikr, Tilaawat, etc. (Ma'ariful Qur'aan vol.8 pg.122)

So, this Hadith means people all that list of endless worshipping was nothing more than an act in the presence of others, but when he's by himself he goes on a sinning rampage?

Doing an act to show others is minor shirk.

So here, minor shirk and intention plays a role.

The first fatwa is in totality, forever doomed. The rest will pay their price and eventually be entered into Jannah.

Just to clarify:

1) So, even minor shikr is a first class ticket to Jahanam if you die in such a condition?

2) I'm sure even gheebah can eat up your good deeds like fire burns wood or is that envy?

3) This Hadith:

So the people described here are the ones who did good deeds for the intention to impress others (minor shirk), but then on their own home were sinful hooligans? The fate of such a person is forever doomed as you put it, akhi?

Allah will judge each individual accordingly. Lets not forget that He سبحانه وتعالى is the best of judges, forgiver, punisher, and most Merciful

Salam

1) Recital of Surah Kafiroon before bed daily, gets any minor shirk forgiven.

Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه was also given a dua by Rasoolalah (saw) to be saved from shirk/minor shirk.

So Insha'Ala you can implement these two things.

2) Yes gheebah can eat up your good deeds, and gheebah often leads to many other things. The hadith mentions to the nearest meaning that most people entering Jahannum will be due to their tounges.

The rest Allah knows best

Quote:

Wednesday 25 June 2014 | 26 Sha'baan 1435 AH

Dua for protection from Minor Shirk.

Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique has narrated that Rasulullah (SAW) said : "Shirk in my Ummah is much more hidden than the pace of an ant crawling upon a black stone."

Shirk is very hidden. It enters the heart very silently and very few are saved from it.

Upon hearing this, Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique asked : "How can one be saved from it?"

Rasulullah said : " Should I not show you such a supplication (dua) that if you recite it, you will be free from minor and major shirk."

Hazrat Abu Bakr requested him to do so. Rasulullah (SAW) instructed him to say :

"Allahumma innee a'oozu bika min an ushrika bika shay-a`w wa-ana a'alam wa-astaghfiruka limaa laa a'alam"

"O Allah, I seek protection in You from that I ascribe partners to You knowingly and I seek forgiveness from You for those things which I do not know."

Minor Shirk is the doing of good actions for show, name, fame or recognition

The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, "Recite surah al Kafirun and then go to sleep after coming to its end, for it is a clearance from shirk." [Abu Dawud]

Does minor shirk put one outside the fold of Islam?

And, akhi, do you have the narration that confirms doing gheebah against others expiates your good deeds?

Jazak'Allah.
