I am finding it difficult to find some information on Pharoh's wife Asiyah. Can you give me some information on her. Was her submission to Allah kept a secret from Pharoh?
Praise be to Allaah.
We do not have a lot of information about the righteous woman Aasiyah bint Mazaahim, the wife of Pharaoh. All the details that have been narrated about her are from the Israa'eeliyyaat (stories from Jewish sources) and are not proven in any saheeh text as far as we know.
But it seems - and Allaah knows best - that she was one of those who concealed their faith from Pharaoh, then her secret was found out. There follow some of the things that have been narrated about her, with some commentary:
1 - Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
"And Allaah has set forth an example for those who believe: the wife of Fir'awn (Pharaoh), when she said: 'My Lord! Build for me a home with You in Paradise, and save me from Fir'awn (Pharaoh) and his work, and save me from the people who are Zaalimoon (polytheists, wrongdoers and disbelievers in Allaah)'"
[al-Tahreem 66:11]
2 - It was narrated that Abu Moosa al-Ash'ari said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The men who attain perfection are many, but there are no woman who have attained perfection apart from Aasiyah the wife of Pharaoh and Maryam bint 'Imraan, and the superiority of 'Aa'ishah over all other women is like the superiority of thareed over all other foods."
(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3230; Muslim, 2431)
3 - It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbaas said: the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) drew four lines on the ground, then he said, "Do you know what this is?" We said, "Allaah and His Messenger know best." The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The best of the women of Paradise are Khadeejah bint Khuwaylid, Faatimah bint Muhammad, Aasiyah bint Mazaahim the wife of Pharaoh, and Maryam bint 'Imraan - may Allaah be pleased with them."
(Narrated by Ahmad, 2663. Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami', 1135)
4 - It was narrated from Anas that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Sufficient for you among the women of the world are Maryam the daughter of 'Imraan. Khadeejah bint Khuwaylid, Faatimah bint Muhammad and Aasiyah the wife of Pharaoh."
(Narrated and classed as saheeh by al-Tirmidhi, 3878)
5 - al-Haafiz ibn Hajar said:
Among the virtues of Aasiyah the wife of Pharaoh is that she chose death over royal privilege and torment in this world over the luxury in which she was living. And her insight concerning Moosa (peace be upon him) was correct when she said "A comfort of the eye for me" [al-Qasas 28:9 - interpretation of the meaning].
As per Fatawa-e-Razvia, Bibi Aasia (Radi Allah Anha, who was wife of Pharoah Ramesis II) and Bibi Maryam (Radi Allah Anha, who was mother of Prophet Isa A.S) will be amongst the wives of Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallam) in Jannah.
This quote (No. 26) is written in the following page of islamicacademy.org
Now, some people have an opinion that these quotes belong to "Imam Ahmad Raza Barelvi" and are confined to a specific sect rather not an open fact, described in Quran and Ahadeeth.
I want to know, is this fact also mentioned in Ahadeeth? If yes, please let me know the references of those Ahadeeth and please issue your Fatwa regarding this fact, whether it is true or not
Answer
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatoh
It is recorded in the books of Tafseer and Hadith that Aasiyah (the wife of Fir'own) and Maryam (the mother of Isa- alayhis salaam-) will be amongst the wives of Rasulullah (Sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) in Jannah.
Hafidh Ibn Katheer (Rahimahullah) has stated that Aasiyah and Maryam will be the wives of Rasulullah (Sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) in Jannah, under the commentary of the verse:
It is hoped that, if he divorces you, Allah will give him in your place wives better than you, submissive to Allah, believing, devout, penitent, steadfast in worship, fasting, previously married and virgins. (Sura Tahreem: 5)
our Question: In continuation of your reply to question # 205-1193 I would request you to please enlighten us on the status of HAZRAT "Aasia", the wife of Pharoah, whose mention has also been made in the Holy Quran. Some people say that she has been or will be married to the Holy Prophet in the JANNAT, as ordained by Allah.
Whatever we know of Hadrat Asiya (r.a.), the virtuous and pious wife of the enemy of Allah, Firaun, is what is declared in the Quran and the Sunnah.
Allah Subhanah Says in the Holy Quran in Chapter 66 Surah Tahreem verse 11: And Allah sets forth as an example to those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh (Asiya): Behold she said: "O my Lord! Build for me in nearness to Thee, a mansion in the Garden, and save me from Pharaoh and his doings, and save me from those that do wrong";
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 7.329 Narrated by Abu Musa Al Ashari
The Prophet (saws) said, "Many men reached perfection but none among the women reached perfection except Mary, the daughter of ' Imran, and Asiya, Pharoah's wife."
There is absolutely no mention in any of the authentic books of Sunnah that Hadrat Asiya (r.a.) will be married to Prophet Mohamed (saws) in Paradise in the life of the Hereafter. And if such a thing is not mentioned in the Quran or the Sunnah, it does behove the believers, who sincerely fear Allah and the Last Day, to become 'match-makers of the Hereafter' and start arranging marriages between righteous people in the life Hereafter, on their own whims and fancies!
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah's Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
