Salaams.

I've been told if urine or stool ends up on your under garment one is expected to check if it's the size of a 10p coin, if it is then one needs to wash it 3 times with a damp cloth and then to squeeze it 3 times.

1) Is this Hanafi specific or right across madhabs?

2) What if you're relieving yourself for a while and the urine dries up, is one still expected to wash it 3 times and squeeze 3 times?

I hope the staff will allow me to ask 2 questions as they're both related.

Question: My question is, if it drips in tiny amounts in our underwear specifically, is our underwear included in the clothing that must be washed before we enter Salat, or is it only outer garments that need to be clean?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I hope you are in the best of health and spirits, insha'Allah.

Yes, one's under garments are included in that which must be clean before initiating one's prayer.

However, up to 5cm in diameter of liquid filth on one's body or clothing would be excused. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah; `Ala al-Din `Abidin, al-Hadiyya al-`Ala'iyya]

Question: If some one dribble urine and has no control over it, can he pray in the same clothes or is his namaaz valid ?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are well, insha'Allah.

The excused amount of liquid filth, in the Hanafi school, is approximately 5cm in diameter. One's prayer in clothing affected by filth, which is less than 5cm in diameter, would be valid. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah; `Ala al-Din `Abidin, al-Hadiyya al-`Ala'iyya]

As for the leak, one must take all reasonable means to stop the urine from exiting. If one, for example, can pray seated such that urine does not exit, one must do so. Consequently, one's prayer would be valid. [ibid.]

However, if one does in fact have a constant leak such that one cannot find enough time to perform a minimum ablution (wudu) and quick prayer without the exiting of urine, then one would be considered an excused person (ma`dhur).

Many answers are derived from Hadith using Fiqh. Therefore, it will be almost impossible to find references directly from Hadith. In such cases we have to rely upon the Fuqaha and their verdict.

Remember, the fuqaha are bigger than muhaddith because a Faqih can not give a verdict without being a muhaddith and the muhaddith is not a Faqih.

Minor impurity is permitted and the size is based on approximation and there is no Hadeeth of Sayyidina Rasul-ullah (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) holding a British 10p coin and explicitly stating that anything around this is permissible.

Fuqaha made Ijtehaad otherwise how would someone know as to what extent the impurity is permitted and when does it become impermissible?
