Salaam.

I heard a talk today when the speaker mentioned 2 interesting narrations:

- One where a Sahaba got swept offshore on an unknown territory and came across a Lion. He told the Lion, please show me the right path home as I'm an Ummati of Mohammed (SAW) and apparently the lion directed or showed him by action?

- Another where some Sahaba took shelter in a jungle and wanted the animals to desert it, so one got on to a tree and told the animals to flee and they did, so to this day no animals can be found in the jungle?

I thought this sort of stuff only the Prophets can do, but anyway.

Anyway if anyone can provide a source it'd be greatly appreciated.

Wasalaam.

Sorry, I do not know the sources of the above incidents.

Allah Ta'ala gives Non-Prophets also the ability to perform miracles (Karamath). Check out Hayatus Sahabah, where miracles of the sahabah are mentioned.
One authentic example would be A whole army of sahaba were able to ride their horse on water by the will of Allah.

The best solution is to ask the speaker.

Anyway, search in Hayatus Sahabah.

The incident about the lion is mentioned in Hayatus-Sahabah on the authority of Shaykh Al-Isbahani (RA) quoted from his book " حلية الأولياء وطبقات الأصفياء"

It relates to the famous Sahabi (RA) of Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) called Safeena (RA) and it is as follows (in original):

He (RA) is a well known Sahabi (RA) who had the ability to carry a lot of weight so Nabi (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) called him Safeena (boat), if you have not heard please ask so I can search that for you.

Salaams, brother.

I'll check out the book, but can you pin it down more i.e. chapter or page number? And, more importantly the isnad. I'm referring to the narration you mentioned.

  1. Hadeeth = Saying/Actions/Approvals of Nabi (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam)
  2. Athar = Saying/Actions/Approvals of a Sahabi (RA)/others

Although some Ulamah do place both in the same category but to answer your question yes it does have Sanad.

A lion is submissive to Rasulullah (saw)'s freed slave Safeenah رضي الله عنه

Rasulullah (saw)'s freed slave Safeenah رضي الله عنه says, "I was once on board a ship when it shipwrecked. I managed to cling on to one of its planks, which carried me to a dense forest. A lion lived in the forest and (when it saw me) it started towards me to attack me. I however addressed it saying, "O Abu Harith! I am the freed slave of Rasulullah (saw)." It immediately lowered its head as it came closer and continued nudging me with its shoulder until I was clear of the forest and on the main road. It then purred , a gesture I interpreted as a word of farewell. That was the last I saw of it.

Hakim (Vol.3 Pg.606), reporting from reliable sources as confirmed by Dhahabi. Bukhari has reported a similar narration in his Tarikh (Vol.2 Pg.179), as has Abu Nu'aym in his Hilya (Vol.1 Pg.369) and his Dala'il (Pg.212). Ibn Mandah has also reported it, as quoted in Al-Bidayah wan Nihayah (Vol.5 Pg.316) and so has Tabrani, as quoted in Majma'uz Zawa'id (Vol.9 Pg.366).

Taken from Hayatus Sahabah, Volume. 3, Chapter 18 Concerning the Unseen Assistance that the Sahabah Radhiyallahu 'anhum Received

I've heard the other narration, which I think is in Hayatus Sahabah too, but can't locate it right now...

Salaams Hafiz-saab,

Bukhari has reported in it's Tarikh? What does this mean?

Do you mean where the Sahabas were in an African jungle or the one brother umar123 reported?

Is this the sanad:

Or just the sources where the narration can be found? I was looking for a list of chain of narrators.

It doesn't have to happen in 'Africa'. Historically lions were found in Arabia too.
Currently Lions are mostly found in Africa and some in India. In the past they were spread in a much larger area.
Here is good pictorial representation of the historical distribution
Source:Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lion
P.s. Also have in mind, Many Sahabah travelled to spread the Deen. So could have happened in Africa too.

Salaams brother umar123. Forgive my ignorance, but the story mentioned they were in Africa. Hopefully, brother Sulaimain84 will find the narration.

Can you provide the one where Sahabas were riding horses on water?

Jazak'Allah.

Hadhrat Alaa bin Hadhrami رضي الله عنه leads the Muslim Army into the Ocean

Hadhrat Sahm bin Minjaab reports, 'We were on a military expedition with Alaa bin Hadhrami رضي الله عنه when we approached the island of Daarayn. The ocean however posed an obstacle for us to land on the island. Alaa رضي الله عنه then prayed to Allaah saying, 'O Aleem! O Haleem! O Aliyy! O Adheem! Verily Your servants are in Your path fighting Your enemies.O Allaah! Create for us a way to reach them.' He then led us into the water and as deep as we went, the water did not even reach our saddle-cloths. In this manner, we reached the enemy." (3)
Another narration from Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه adds that when ibn Muka'bir the Persian Emperor's governor saw the Muslims (travelling through the water), he said. "No! By Allaah! We can never fight such people!" He then boarded his ship and returned to Persia. (4)

(3) Abu Nu'aym in his Hilya (Vol 1 Pg.7).
(4) Abu Nu'aym in his Hilya (Vol 1 Pg.8). Tabraani, Ibn Abi Dunya and Bayhaqi
