This thread is not about if Prawns are Halal, Makruh or Haram. So please lets not go there.

This is about an issue we've been bringing up at home every time we see prawns!

I won't go into details, but from what I've read, this black line needs to be removed before eating it.

What's your thought on this? Is it excrement as some have described it?

A quick read on these topics makes me wanna stop eating it :s

Not sure if the black line needs to be removed but I can't cook them unless it is removed. Just a personal preference. Difficult to remove them from smaller prawns, but the bigger ones are easier to clean.

Hmmm....by the time I've cleaned and cooked them, don't feel like eating them.

The water in the image is off putting enough :-(

You would happily eat it with black line included?

It seems that the shrimp have to be deveined before eating.

The impurities in the digestive tract of a fish have to be removed in order for the fish to become permissible to consume. This is more essential in small fishes where generally the digestive tract is not cleaned. Accordingly, the same ruling will apply to prawns if consumed based on the opinion of those ‘Ulamā who regard prawns as a fish. Therefore, it will be necessary to remove the digestive tract (a dark dorsal vein) before consuming.

Shrimps are skinned and cleaned before selling; nobody eats the stuff raw! Just like all animals have digestive tracts but they are removed before consuming.

We buy frozen prawns which are cleaned, but sometimes, they are fresh and cooked with the shell, like this. Even restaurants serve it with the shell.

Taste wise wont make a difference, but when cooked with the shell in its curry, the fun is in sucking the juice/curry out from the prawn :( and then peeling clean. Well, we'll just stick to the frozen prawns then! The fresh one's hardly ever come in :)

Obviously last nite was the last time ever for me/us inshaAllah.

Since we won't be having these type of prawns again, I guess I'll never have Prawn eggs either. They tasted so awesome. (note the past tense)

Prawns yummy...water in mouth.

While some people like to eat with shells many want the shells be removed.
