This thread reminds of Tableeghi Jamaat.

Jamaat came to my house last week and they started saying "We came to your Masjid..."

I said I know, I saw you in Dhohar, Asar and Maghrib

There will be a Bayan after Esha

I said I know, it always happens...

It was freezing cold and I am standing outside in a T-Shirt (home time) with no shoes listening to stuff which I had already heard 3 times before that.

my cookings pretty basic....learnt a basic curry whislt in kitchen/'kidmah' duties in TJ years back. Theres so many very easy to follow cooking videos on youtube (like the ones by the sister on the first post via her youtube channel)...cooking vids is something i, sadly, can watch for hours :-(

i still have problems when it comes to measurement/weight of ingredients - without scales id be lost! most/all women just seem to know how much X weighs just by looking at it ... from like accross the room (even through wallls maybe!)

'IF' i do try the pie this weekend inshallah will post a picture of it...with detailed commentry of how it taste :-) (v.basic commentry if it tastes as if its unfit for human consumption!)

Indian cuisine is cooked differently in different parts of the sub-continent e.g. Biryani made by Gujratees is different to Biryani by Hyderabadees or Biharees or people from Lucknow or from Tamil Nadu. Each area and thousands of years of tradition (climate, habits) have left an indelible mark on the cuisine so its important to note diversity and enjoy it.

Your remarks are simply cringe worthy, backed by the nincompoops who gave you a winner without understanding the question, its reasons and its implications but enjoy.

I'm craving İrmik helvası now. Will make some using the 'gz hesabı' method brother Daywalk3r mentioned.

Simple but nice when you eat it warm on a cold winter day.

Ingredients:
Semolina
Butter
Sugar
Milk
Pine nuts (optional)

"Who died?" would be the question a Turk might ask if I told them "I'm making halwa." Turks generally make this whenever there is a death. Perhaps because it is so easy to make and a little goes a long way... so, it easy to take to the deceased person's family but also easy to offer to people who come for taziya.

~~~
Simple foods. Try finding recipes that use the least number of ingredients where the ingredients are as natural as possible (avoid processed stuff).
What I cooked while in khurooj: Usual breakfast: Kesri bhath + Khara Bhath (Uppitu)
b. Usual lunch: Dal or sometimes tadka dal: It didn't come around good the first time, but later on, it was superb.
With Egg bhurji to go - Egg bhurji is awesome with bread but here it was with plain rice and dal.
Sometimes lunch we used to have, plain rice, dal with poppadoms..
Alhamdulillah, have been cooking scrambled eggs, omlette etc since when I was like 12 years..can make a sumptuous breakfast if the need be..and have done it.
Can also cook tandoori chicken without masala's from outside...even pizza's.
Can cook chicken and mutton curry but with outside masala's.
Can cook really good custard too.
What stops me from cooking: Mom and laziness - not so much into food. Will survive on a bar of chocolate, fruits etc.
Can make Sulaimani tea (lemon tea) and normal tea.
Can make very good wheat roti's from the start except for carving out their round shape.
JazakAllah Khair.
Not yet graduated to Biryani though.
Dal didn't come around good the first time (this time) because there was unnecessary meddling in-between.
