HMC (Limited Company) Liquidating but your meat should be fine :-)

Asslamo Allaikum,

I am getting some emails from concerned Muslims about the following notice about HMC.

I am neither a Scholar nor associated with HMC in anyway and here is my guess:

1. HMC was a limited company and probably built up debt as a result
2. They are now trying to shut down their "Limited Company Status" to wipe the debts

Their activities continue as normal under HMC (UK) so Muslims don't need to worry about their Halal Meat or HMC going out of business, it appears to me that they are changing their legal status and classification for one reason or another.

Normally companies do this and inform their customers but I have not seen any information like this on the HMC site and if there is anything there please point it out.

At the end of the day, Muslims don't need to concern themselves; nevertheless an explaination on HMC site would be nice.

Halal Monitoring Committee Limited is in the process of being dissolved allowing them to be debt free and to continue their work they have set up as HMC (UK). The following press was issued to us yesterday.

Asslamo Allaikum,

IF they are doing that; there is no explaination so we don't know what they are doing so we should keep Husn-e-Dhun of Ulamah.

We have no idea whats happening but in general in the business environment this is the most common reason for dissolving a company.

As you know that I am not too keen on HMC idea anyways but they are serving many Muslims so may Allah (SWT) give them Barakah in their work (Ameen).

Sunnah is a always a lot straight-forward, off course.

Allah (SWT) knows best.

P.S: Although it would be nice for the Administrators of their site to correct the spelling of our dear and beloved Shaykh (Mufti) Taqi Usmani (HA).

• In September 2011, HMC registered for VAT as agreed with the HMRC
  
• Previous to this, HMC believed it was exempt from VAT due to the nature of its work and charity status
  
• In early 2012, HMRC informed HMC that it should re-bill all its pre-existing customers for VAT dating back from 2005 and make payments due
  
• The majority of pre-existing customers would be able to re-claim VAT from HMRC but could not pay due to cash flow
  
• This requirement by HMRC caused HMC to have significant unforeseen cash flow issues, that it could not reconcile and settle with HMRC
  

• HMC UK has been established by concerned Trustees and Ulama to continue the work of Halal
  
• Since February 2012 it has already taken on the responsibility of supplying genuine halal to 500+ outlets throughout the UK (continuity of halal supply)
  
• Yunus Dudhwala, said the "the work for Halal is an important matter within the community and we are pleased with the response and support received"
