Assalamu alaykum. Dawn Farm Foods - which is based in Naas, co. Kildare, Ireland- is the producer of raw food products for Subway in the U.K. We supervise the manufacture and certify the products as Halal. The rule regarding the meat of animals slaughtered by the People of Book is ageneral one. In our Halal certification we make a condition that the slaughterman must be Muslim. I have asked our webmaster to make the proper amenment to avoid the confusion. I thought that was done. Wassalamu alaykum. Yahya M. Still awaitng more results with regards to the method and voltage of stunning. Having said that, I would like to remind you Allah knows best because Dawn Farms are one of the biggest suppliers of PORK. See thier website.

Asslamo Allaikum Brother,

May Allah (SWT) reward you for your time and effort in this world and the next and give you Jannatul-Firdaus for your concern for the Ummah (Ameen).

I need some clarification on this matter:

  1. Do Dawn Farm Foods supply just ONE subway in London or all Subways in UK?
  2. If they supply all Subways in UK then in effect you are saying:

    1. All animals are stunned
    2. But hand sluaghtered by Muslims
    3. Dawan Farm Foods also supply Pork

Is this the Summary of your findings?

Jazakullah Khairun

Jazakallahu khair,

From what I have understood so far from the Imam of IFI, is;

Quote:
1. Do Dawn Farm Foods supply just ONE subway in London or all Subways in UK?
ALL SUBWAYS IN UK

Quote:
2. If they supply all Subways in UK then in effect you are saying:
Quote:
2.1. All animals are stunned.

FOR THE HALAL SECTION, ONLY POULTRY IS STUNNED (STUN TO STUN)
2.2. But hand slaughtered by Muslims.

THE IMAM SAID, THE HALAL MEAT IS DONE ONLY BY MUSLIM SLAUGHTERMEN, AND NO MEAT OR POULTRY SLAUGHTERED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE BOOK IS INCLUDED IN THEIR HALAL MEAT. THE STATEMENT ON THEIR WEBSITE IS A GENERAL STATEMENT WHICH IS TO BE AMENDED TO STOP CONFUSION.
2.3. Dawn Farm Foods also supply Pork.

Multi Species Dawn Farms product range and capability spans all meat types - from cooked beef, lamb, pork, ham, bacon, chicken and turkey, to fermented & dried products such as pepperoni, salami & chorizo.

Its not just Ireland (IFI) who certify the chicken!

Quote:
Who certifies the Halal meat?
The Islamic Foundation of Ireland certifies all meats in the Halal stores with the exception of the Chicken Temptation which is certified by the Islamic Committee of Thailand. For further information on the certification of these meats please find the contact details below.

For more information about the I.F.I. please visit their website: www.islaminireland.com

For more information about the Islamic Committee of Thailand please contact them via telephone 0-2949-4114 or via their website www.cpfworldwide.com email; [email protected]

Sorry but still not clear to me but the following from subway's site clarifies the matter:

The questions you have asked are not answered by the subway site, nor are they fully answered by the supplier to subway.

The answers I have given are from the certificate providers.

One thing I forgot to mention above is that the meat and poultry is hand slaughtered by the Muslim slaughter men.

A point to note: the subway site doesn't clarify anything, nor does it give It's criteria/method. It simply gives an external source as IFI.

IFI's site categorically states "No stunning of animals", however, the Imam of IFI states otherwise.

Therefore, one can not conclude with misleading information provided by the two sites.

Subway is supplied by dawn farms, but nowhere does it say that on their website. But the Imam confirmed that dawn farms are the suppliers.

And Allah knows best.

Response from Dawn Farms Foods
My Questions posed to them via their website is highlighted in Red.

Dawn Farm Foods wrote:
Good afternoon ,

Many thanks for your interest in the Halal meat products that Dawn Farm Foods produce. Please find the answers to your queries below.

Do you supply meat to ALL Subway franchises in the UK or just the Halal branches?

Dawn Farm Foods supply both the Halal and the non- Halal Subway stores in the UK. All meats are produced to Subway specifications and recipes. The halal meat products produced for Subway are certified by the IFI.

If IFI Certify the meat as HALAL for Subway, then who is HFM and Habibi?

Habibi is a branded range of high quality Halal cooked meats produced by Dawn Farms, suitable for use in all foodservice operations serving the Halal market. The Habibi range is certified by the HFM ,a private and reputable Irish Halal Certification Body which has been operational for a number of years and is known to the IFI.

Best Regards

Juanita O' Grady

Is there any guarantee that the meat is halal? These days if Muslims can't be trusted, then how can you trust non Muslims

They are franchises and the ones I/we know are owned/run by Muslims. There are a few in highly Muslim populated areas that are non-Muslim owned, and most will have Muslim staff.

I asked because back in 2012 this thread was created and a lot of discussion took place but didn't see any conclusion about how "halal" it is
