Aldi agrees to remove controversial sticker from stores after label offends Hindus

Aldi has removed a sticker from a meat dish in all its stores after the label caused offence amongst the Hindu community.

The supermarket giant received complaints after it called its Mango Masala Beef Steaks a “Taste of India”.

Reach India UK, a group set up in London to raise awareness of Bhartiya heritage, took offence about the association and said the majority of Indians are Hindu and believe cows are sacred.

Tweeting the store the group asked: “Why is Aldi UK doing this?

“Why is Aldi selling beef as Indian and hurting Hindus.

“We worship the cow and consider it sacred. How dare you sell beef as Indian.”Nandini Singh, 50, of Reach India told MyLondon that the labelling shows the chain is “not aware or do not care about Hindus”.

She added: “The Hindus do not eat beef and we worship the cow.

Would "fine Pakistani wine" be offensive to UK Pakistanis if a spirit was sold in the UK using this label?

Honest question. No sarcasm. No malice intended.

Would the origin of the grapes be Pakistan too?

There are non Muslims in Pakistan too.

India is not exclusive to Hindus.

If the wine was a halal drink, then I guess many wouldn't find it offensive, whilst others would disagree with drinking it or calling it halal.

If the origin was uncertain, and it was an alcoholic drink, and it was sold in the UK at Aldi's, and labelled "Fine Pakistani Wine," what would the reaction of Pakistani Muslims in the UK be?

That's not the point.

Wine has nothing to do with Pakistan. So it wouldn't really do well and would be a failure!

The "Taste of India" is targeting Non Indians in particular who like Indian food.

The ingredients are standard Indian ingredients hence is name and success in sales.

The cow is not considered a God in any sane persons head.

If they were selling baghwan (Hindu God) dishes, then I could understand the concern on their behalf.

Thank you for your detailed analysis.

My only contention is Muslims would likely be offended, and so it is not unreasonable that some Hindus were offended.

And the Hindus mock the west.

They live together without marriage. Some times they marry in front of their grown up children.
their 13 year school girl is mother of a baby, their 11 year boy is a father.

Both mock at each other

I am wondering why India is in news now.

India is a huge consumer market for the world suppliers, this is due it its large population. Otherwise in Human development Index (HDI), it is far behind Malaysia. In defense production and defense power it is far behind Turkey. India's Per capita Income is very low.

Is it ghuloo that world gives importance India to get access to Indian market. For Arabs, India is large consumer of petroleum products.
