The Bubble Tea which is from Taiwan in fact contains pork gelatin which is not consumable by Muslims. Its currently brought into the country by a Singaporean conglomerate who also distribute various other food brands including Japanese isotonic drink Pocari Sweat. Meng Chong Foodstuff Pte.Ltd supplies the chewy bubble tea in solid form, where the product hit shelves in Singapore with much fanfare. The trend is extremely popular in Taiwan for those who do not wish to stand in long queues for a bubble tea drink and opt to chew on these little chocolate filled balls.
Brown Sugar Bubble Tea is available on local ecommerce platform like Shopee and promoted as childrens favourite, there is also no warnings about non-halal ingredients on the description.
Malaysian especially of Muslim beliefs, are advised to read labels before purchasing edible items both locally and when overseas.
