Salam,

Just very quickly:

This house belongs to the businessman and that house belongs to the doctor

هَذَا - Ishaarah
البَيتُ - Mushaarun Ilayhi
Isharah & Musharun Ilayhi together makes Mubtada
لِلتَّاجِرِ
Li = Jaar
A-Taajir = Majroor
Jaar & Majroor makes Khabar

Mubtada & Khabar makes Ma'toof 'Alayhi

و - 'Atf

ذَلَكَ - Ishaarah
البَيتُ - Mushaarun Ilayhi
Isharah & Musharun Ilayhi makes Mubtada
لِلطَّبَيبِ
Li = Jaar
At-Tabeebi = Majroor
Jaar Majroor makes Khabar

Mubtada & Khabar makes Ma'toof

W-Salam Maulana,

هَذَا البَيتُ لِلتَّاجِرِ وَ ذَلَكَ البَيتُ ِللطَّبَيبِ

Isn't Al-Baytu = Badal and Hadha = Mubdal Minhu?

The practical manifestation is here:

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

  • Alhamdu is Ism-Marfoo
  • Lillahi is Jaar/Majroor
  • Rabbi  = Badal (then Mudaf) & Allahi = Mubdal Minhu
  • Al-Aalameena is Mudaf-Ileh

W-salam,

Badal = Substitue

Mubdal Minhu (not covered YET) is the word which is being substituting for.

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

  • Alhamdu is Ism-Marfoo (Mubatada because it is definite and Marfoo)
  • Lillahi is Jaar/Majroor
  • Rabbi  = Badal (then Mudaf) & Allahi = Mubdal Minhu
  • Al-Aalameena is Mudaf-Ileh

Can you see that "Rabbi" is substitue for "Allah" i.e. they mean and refer to pretty much the same thing?

Hazhaa in the meaning/context of Badal/Mubaddal Minhu when doing Tarkeeb has always been Ishaara and what it points to is Musharun Ilayhi which together makes any portion of a sentence such as Mubtad.

Hazhaa without the Badal is Mubtada such as "Hazhaa Baytun" - this is a house

Some do Tarkeeb as Badal and Mubaddal minhu which is also correct but I've always done those as Ishara Mushaarun Ilayhi which is the common practice and also how I was taught.

In "Alhamdu Lillahi Rabbil Alameen" the Badal and Mubaddal Minhu is there so here it's right. With Ism Ishaarah, more accurate Tarkeeb has been with Ishaarah/Mushaarun Ilayhi.

I used to do Tarkeeb like this which made constructing and understanding the structures of proper sentences easier.

Salam, the Tarkeeb is not possible if any definition is not understood so before attempting and understanding this, it is important to know what each one means and examples that go with it.

Before giving it another go with the new sentence, please ask which ones you don't understand if there's any.

Assalaamu 'alaykum WW
my attempt:
هذا الكتابُ جديدٌ و هذا القلمُ قديمٌ

First part of sentence
هذا ishaarah (demonstrative pronoun)
الكتابُ mushaarun ilayhi
Above two together make up the Mubtada'
جديدٌ khabr
و harf atf
Second part of sentence
هذ ishaarah
القلمُ mushaarun ilayhi
Above two make up the Mubtada'
قديمٌ khabr

I've done this without looking. Now the last two lines of the terkeeb (by Mawlana Yasin) are as follows...i cannot remember the terms though i sort of understand what is being done

The first part of the sentence is something (???) to the second part due to the harf atf
The complete sentence is ???? I did not understand this

MashaAllah you've got it

Two sentences or words joint with an Atf consists of Ma'toof 'alayhi which is before the 'Atf and Ma'toof follows the 'Atf.

A sentence in this format is jumlah 'aatifah or ma'toofiyyah

I'm sure Muadh can provide a more technical definition.

if a sentence has more than one atf which is valid in Arabic then each jumlah ma'toofiyyah will be the ma'toof 'alayhi of the proceeding Ma'toof. i hope i didn't just complicate it.
