The Janazah of Khawaja Bakhtiyar Kaki Rahmatullahi Alaih was ready for Namaz e Janaza. The khadim-e-khas of Khwaja Sahab came forward and announced that according to the will of Khawaja sb the funeral prayer (salat-ul-janazah) is to be led by the person who fulfills these 3 requirements:

1. He should have never laid eyes on any unrelated women (non-mehram) after reaching puberty.

2. He should have never missed the 4 rakat of sunnah-prayer (ghair-muakkidah) before asr salah.

3. Because of the fear and awe of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, he never looked upwards towards heavens.

The huge crowd stood still. All the awliya of Dehli and Shaykh's senior khulafa were there. No one came forward. The Khadim repeatedly announced the requirements. But there was no response. A sense of impatience was being felt.

Finally, The Sultan of Delhi, Sultan Shamusddin Altamash (Allah have mercy on him) stepped forward.

He remarked, ''No one knew my secret, the respected Khawaja disclosed it. All praise is for Allah, I fullfil these criteria''.

He then led the prayers.

Once an ‘alim came to Hazrat Imdadullah Muhajir Makki (RA). He told Hazrat Haji Sahib (RA) that I would like to make tawbah and be in your company. He also mentioned to Hazrat Haji Sahib (RA) about his inability to perform the tahajjud prayer. Hazrat Haji Saheb (RA) did not say anything about tahajjud to him and just made him a mureed.

The mureed stayed with Hazrat Haji Sahib (RA) in the same room that night. Late at night ( as was his habbit) Hazrat Haji Sahib (RA) began to offer the tahajjud prayer. The mureed woke up at that time and was observing Hazrat Haji Sahib (RA) performing tahajjud. Observing this, the mureed could not keep himself on the bed. So he got up, did wudu, and prayed tahajjud too.

This mureed later informed Hazrat Haji Sahib (RA) that since that very night, he never ever in his life missed tahajjud. This is the effect of righteous company.

The following one is on a lighter note... but if you contemplate you can even gain a lot of benefit from such an anecdote... Just pay attention with how much respect and affection our elders treated each other...

Hadhrat Shaykh [Mawlana Sarfraz Khan Safdar رحمه الله] once said, "With effort over years I prepared a copy of Mishkat Masabih, in which the notes of lectures heard from Hadhrat Mawlana Abdul Qadeer رحمه الله from my student days were also included and then while teaching through my research I also made a lot of additions to it."

He continues, "Once Sufi [Mawlana Abdul Hameed Swati رحمه الله] took this copy from me and one person borrowed or 'pilfered' it from him. After some time I asked about the copy, whereupon Sufi said very calm: "That one has been lost." I said: "You merely moved your tounge that it has been lost, but my years of effort has been wasted." To this Sufi replied: "Well, whoever has taken it will read it, or not?! So, you'll be rewarded!"

He says: "This is why I call him 'Sufi'."

An occurance that Hadhrat Maulana Adam Sahib DB witnessed during his days of study at Deoband
The Humility of the Pious Predecessors:
In Deoband, mangoes grow abundantly. The people of Deoband used to invite the students and teachers of Darul Uloom Deoband, where Hadhrat studied, to their gardens at the time of the ripening of the mangoes. The students would play sports and the Shuyukh [teachers] would watch them. Once it unexpectedly started to rain. Shaikh Maulana Gangohi RA, who was worried that the students' shoes would get drenched in the rain, quickly gathered them in his shawl and carried them away. Someone saw him do this and asked him why he was doing this. He explained that he was very fortunate to be able to carry the shoes of the students and he took them safely inside.

A story mentioned by Hadhrat Maulana Adam Sahib DB:
Hadrat Luqman very pious slave. One day, his master ordered him to slaughter a goat and to bring him the best parts from it. Luqman brought him the tongue and heart. The master asked: “Didn’t you find anything more pleasant than these?” Hadrat Luqman said: “No!” After a while, the master ordered him to slaughter a goat and to bring the most malignant and dirty parts. Hadrat Luqman slaughtered the goat and brought the tongue and heart. The master was confused and exclaimed: “I ordered you to bring me the best parts and you brought me the tongue and heart, and I ordered you to bring the most malignant parts and you brought the tongue and heart again, how can this be?” Hadrat Luqman replied: “Nothing can be more pleasing than these if they are good and nothing can be more malicious than these if they are malignant.”

Hadhrat Maulana Adam Sahib DB mentioned in one of his majalis:
Junaid Baghdadi RA would have a very small tasbeeh in his hand, which after many years of use, had blackened. When he was at the peak of his spiritual glory, after seeing this, someone asked him, “Why do you need a tasbeeh when your heart is constantly remembering Allah?” He replied: “This tasbeeh is my best friend. It was the means of me attaining nearness to Allah and reaching this status. I will never let go of it. If it were permissible to take something in my grave with me, I would write in my will that I wish this tasbeeh to be laid in the grave with me.” SubhanAllah

Hadhrat Maulana Adam Sahib DB mentioned:
Power comes with Imaan
Sayyiduna Umar became the second ameerul mumineen
Once, a safeer [representative/messenger] from another country came and asked, ‘where is your leader?’ The people answered that he is the graveyard. He found Sayidina Umar sleeping with a stone as his pillow. When he saw him, he started shaking and realised that this is what made the Muslims who they were; the power of Imaan.
Sheikh Sadi saw a man in a jungle, travelling on lion. He mentions, ‘My state was such that I couldn’t move my feet out of fear’. The man recognised Sheikh Sadi and said smiling, ‘you lower your neck to the command of Allah and all others will become subservient to you.’
The story of Hadhrat Safina also shows the power of Imaan. He saw a lion and said, ‘I am the slave of the Messenger of Allah s’. Hearing this, the lion became meek and showed him the way whilst protecting him from other lions. When Hadhrat Safina reached his destination, the lion wagged his tail in salaam.
We ask why our Haal [condition] is not like that. We, after all, cannot reach the rank of the Sahaaba. We make dua that Allah grants us the gift of reciting Darood and sukoon [peace] in our hearts to such an extent that we find pleasure in Dhikr. This is a bigger wealth than having a lion subservient to you.
We should recite Durood all the time, from when we wake to when we sleep. May he grant us such love for His Rasool that we have the fortune of seeing Nabi s when the real sleep comes; death.

Stories and anecdotes of our elders:

An incident has been mentioned in the Al-Balagh Mufti A’zam Number of the humility of Shaykh al-Hind Mawlana Mahmud al-Hasan Deobandi (Allah have mercy on him).

Mawlana Mu`in al-Din Ajmeri rh.a (Allah have mercy on him) was renowned for his mastery in the field of philosophy. He had heard of the prominence and piety of Shaykh al-Hind rh.a. Hence, he decided to travel to Deoband and pay him a visit. It was during summer. When he arrived at the home of Shaykh al-Hind rh.a he met a person dressed only in a lungi and a vest. He introduced himself to him and said; “I have come to meet Mawlana Mahmud al-Hasan.” The person welcomed him with a lot of respect and seated him telling him that he will meet him soon.
Whilst waiting, this person served Mawlana Ajmeri rh.a with refreshments. Mawlana Ajmeri rh.a told him to inform Shaykh al-Hind rh.a. The person responded that Mawlana Ajmeri rh.a should make himself comfortable and not to worry. After a little while, the person brought some food and insited that Mawlana Ajmeri rh.a partakes of the meal. Mawlana Ajmeri rh.a again asked him to inform Shaykh al-Hind rh.a that he had come to meet him. He was told after meals he will be able to meet him.
After partaking of meals, the person began to fan Mawlana Ajmeri [to cool him from the heat of summer]. When this continued for some time, Mawlana Ajmeri became annoyed and said; “You are wasting my time. I have come to meet Mawlana Mahmud al-Hasan and it has been so long yet you have not let me meet him.” The person then replied; “The reality of the matter is that there is no Mawlana over here. However, this insignificant servants name is Mahmud.”

Hearing this reply, Mawlana Ajmeri was totally astounded and realised the worth of Shaykh al-Hind........

Once during tableegh ; Moulana Ilyas RA placed his hands on the shoulder of a person. He got flared up and said "If you touch me again, I will hit you with this staff". On this Moulana Ilyas RA bent down and clasped his legs and said "you didn't say you will hit me when I touch the feet". The person's anger vanished and he calmed down.

The following is an excerpt from Yadgar waqiat, P: 213- 214.

A strange Remedy for Health

Hazrat Abdullah Bin Mubarak رحمة الله عليه was a great Muhaddith..Faqih and Mujahid.. once someone told him.. ‘ For the past seven years I have a boil on my knee through which blood keeps oozing out.. I have underwent all treatment.. have consulted many physicians.. but of no avail..’

Hazrat Abdullah Bin Mubarak رحمة الله عليه replied ‘ Go.. find a place where there is scarcity of water and people are in need of water.. dig a well at such spot..im hopeful that when water shall surge from it.. your bleeding would stop..’ He obeyed the shaikh’s advice and was cured…

This incident has been narrated by Allamah Munziri رحمة الله عليه on the authority of Imam Bayhaqi رحمة الله عليه ..

Allamah Munziri رحمة الله عليه narrates after this incident.. ‘A similar incident is also related to our Shaikh Abu Abdullah Hakim رحمة الله عليه…

Acne erupted on his face.. he tried many remedies.. but the Acne wouldn’t subside… after remaining afflicted for about a year.. he presented himself once after Jumu’a in the majlis of Imam Abu Uthman Sabuni رحمة الله عليه and requested for dua..

Imam Sabuni رحمة الله عليه made dua for him.. and the attendees replied with Ameen.. the next Friday.. a lady sent a letter in the Majlis of Imam Sabuni رحمة الله عليه wherein was written..

‘Last Friday after the dua for Shaikh Abu Abdullah Hakim رحمة الله عليه I returned home and made dua for his health.. the same night I saw Hazrat Rasulullah (saw) in my dream.. He (saw) said to me :

“Inform Abu Abdullah to make arrangements for delivering water in abundance to the Muslims..”

When Shaikh Hakim رحمة الله عليه learnt of it.. he dug a stream of water at his door where people would drink to their fill.. not a week had passed from this incident that signs of cure were evident on the Shaikh’s face..

The Acne disappeared and his face regained its earlier complexion and beauty.. he remained alive for many years after this..

The following incident is an excerpt from Arwah e Thalatha which was compiled by Hazrat Maulana Syed Zuhur ul Hasan Sahab Kasaulwi رحمة الله عليه (former Nazim of Khanqah Imdadiyah Ashrafiya Thanabhawan) with commentary from Hakeem ul ummat Hazrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi رحمة الله عليه

P:55-56

بسم الله الرحمن اللرحيم

Anecdote 41

Khan sahab رحمة الله عليه (1) narrates that Maulvi Abdul Qayyum sahab, Maulvi Mahmood Phulati sahab, Maulvi A’lam Ali sahab recounted that a Jinn possessed someone in the time of Hazrat Shah Abdul Aziz Muhaddith Dehlawi رحمة الله عليه. His relatives approached Hazrat Shah Abdul Aziz sahab رحمة الله عليه Hazrat Shah Ghulam Ali sahab رحمة الله عليه (2) and other Mashaikh. All of them did Amaliyat, Taweezat , Ruqya.. yet his condition did not improve.

Incidentally Hazrat Shah Abdul Qadir sahab رحمة الله عليه wasn’t residing in Delhi at that time. When Hazrat Shah sahab رحمة الله عليه reached Delhi, they approached him as well. Hazrat رحمة الله عليه did Amaliyat and he became well on that day itself.

When Hazrat Shah Abdul Aziz sahab رحمة الله عليه came to know of it he inquired Hazrat Shah sahab “ Miyan Abdul Qadir which Amal did you work..”. He replied “Hazrat I had only recited Al Hamd (Surah Fatihah)”.

Hazrat Shah sahab inquired “using any special method..?” and Hazrat Shah Abdul Qadir sahab رحمة الله عليه replied “There wasn’t any special method, only that I recited it in the Glory of Ya Jabbar”.

( I inqured Khan sahab the meaning of this statement, he replied saying even I did not understand, the narrators had used the same words.)

Commentary of Anecdote 41: I did not understand the meaning:-

The cursory meaning that comes to the mind of this lowly self which I admit in the line of probability is that there is a station amongst “Kamileen” (The accomplished ones) known as “Abu Al Waqt” that they are able to descend upon themselves whichever “Tajalli” (divine manifestation) they so wish, at any given time. As I heard from murshidi رحمة الله عليه ( Hazrat Haji Imdadullah Muhajir Makki رحمة الله عليه ) .

So it wouldn’t be surprising that Hazrat Shah sahab رحمة الله عليه would have descended the “Tajalli” of “Jabbar” upon himself and using the manifestation of which gave “Tawajjuh” (Spiritual concentration/effect), warding off the Jinn through it. End. ( as written in Ameer Al Riwayat) (3)

END

Discussion... what we learn from above..

1. The Mashaikh.. ulema.. Muhadditheen also practised Amaliyat.. did Taweezat and Ruqya..

2. There is No hard and fast rule that one can be cured by each and every Kamil or Amil.. like specialists..each one has a different skill & specialty of their own..

3. The effect in Ruqya varies from person to person.. depending upon the skills of the Amil.. see the Mashaikh who tried to ward off the Jinn were not ordinary people.. great Mashaikh and Amils of the time..and they blew over using their methods, did Taweezat etc.. yet it did not work.

4. we also came to know that there is a Skill involved Even in blowing Surah Fatihah.

End

Reference marked.

1.Hazrat Ameer shah Khan sahab Khurjauri رحمة الله عليه who was amongst the close people of Hazrat Maulana Muhammed Qasim Nanotawi رحمة الله عليه and was a renowned personality of his time. He was endowed with trust and affection of the Mashaikh of his time & was known for his skill to memorize and relate with caution.

2.Hazrat Shah Ghulam Ali Dehlawi رحمة الله عليه was amongst the Shaikh ul Mashaikh of the time, Khalifa of Hazrat Shah Mirza Mazhar Janjan رحمة الله عليه the great Naqshbandi Mujaddidi Shaikh.

3.The book Arwah e Thalithah is a compilation of three books- Ameer ur Riwayat by Hazrat Ameer Shah Khan sahab رحمة الله عليه, Riwayat ut’Tayyib By Hazrat Maulana Qari Muhammed Tayyib sahab رحمة الله عليه & Ashraf ut’Tanbih, the Malfuzaat of Hakeem ul ummat Hazrat Thanwi رحمة الله عليه.

السلام عليكم

Latifa

“ Once Hazrat Maulana Qasim Nanotawi sahab رحمة الله عليه wasn’t there in the room. Footsteps were be heard climbing up the staircase. Alongside, sounds of beating drums could also be heard from down below.

Hazrat Maulana Rasheed Ahmed Gangohi sahab رحمة الله عليه's back was facing the staircase. Humorously remarking with reference to chistis, he commented on Maulana Nanotawi رحمة الله عليه “ So you even brought your friends along ( drum beaters)”

When he saw (behind) it was Hazrat Haji Imdadullah Muhajir Makki رحمة الله عليه . Hazrat رحمة الله عليه said “There are beggars seeking alms below and they were the ones beating drums”. frightened, Maulana Gangohi رحمة الله عليه at once stood up and respectfully seated down facing Hazrat Haji sahab رحمة الله عليه.

This incident occurred before Maulana Mansoor Ali Khan رحمة الله عليه and when he narrated this to Hazrat Nanotawi رحمة الله عليه , he started smiling”

السلام عليكم

The following incident is taken from Biographies of Naqshbandi Mujaddidi Mashaikh compiled by Hazrat Maulana Mahbub Ahmed Qamar uzzaman Nadwi Ilahabadi (db)

P.93

A young man lived in his (Hazrat Khwaja Baqibillah Naqshbandi رحمة الله عليه's) neighbourhood. He was involved in many forms of sin. Despite knowing this, Hazrat Khwājah Bāqī Billāh رحمة الله عليه overlooked it.

However, his murīd, Khwājah Ḥusamud Dīn Dehlawī رحمة الله عليه complained to the authorities about the youngster. They apprehended him and jailed him. When the Shaykh learnt about this, he became angry with the murīd and questioned him about it. “Hazrat,” he replied, “He was a major and open sinner!”

Hazrat Khwājah Bāqī Billāh رحمة الله عليه took a deep breath and said, “Yes, you are people of piety and Taqwā, hence you could perceive his sin and evil. I do not consider myself any better than him, hence I could not ignore myself and complain to the authorities against him.”

He then interceded with the authorities on his behalf. Upon releasing him, he repented and became one of the pious ones."

END

To be honest the above came to mind many times when i did those translations on the fatwa in the other thread. May Allah سبحانه وتعالى make our khaatma on imaan.. Ameen..
