Who was Maulana Muhammad Qasim Nanotwi [rahmatullah Aly]

Maulana Qasim Nanotwi founded the greatest religious institution of the Indian Subcontinent, the prestigious Darul Uloom Deoband. He is the teacher of erudite scholars such as Maulana Mahmood-ul-Hasan (also known as Shaikhul Hind).

Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi, a student of Maulana Qasim Nanotwi says: "I still do not fully understand the writings of Maulana Qasim Nanotwi."

Maulana Muhammad Yaqub Nanotawi, a peer of Hadhrat Maulana Qasim Nanotwi used to say: "I have studied Ab-e-Hayaat (a book by Maulana Qasim Nanotwi) six times and now only do I understand some of it."

Also our clothes affect our mind and heart. ''Man tasahba-ha biqomihi fa huwa minhum'' should be kept in mind before choosing the clothes.

Clothes which are close to sunnah always boost our Iman and help us to gain the taste of piety and purity.

Hazrat Molana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi rh.a would wear fine attire, in contrast with Hazrat Molana Qasim Nanotwi rh.a who would wear too simple clothes. Other People couldn't recognise him that he was a great alim. Once a stranger asked him the rates of molasses as if he were a vendor coming from a weekly market, but he didn't mind it, he said that he wasn't coming from there.

Once he happened to pray maghrib salah in a village masjid. Imam didn't come so the people asked him to lead the congregational prayer. By mistake he recited surah al naas in first rakat and surah falaq in second rakat. After the completion of salah, they objected on it. He said that the salah was valid despite that mistake. One of them said that Molana Qasim had said that the recitation of surahs should be in correct order (as mentioned in Quran). Then, he very humbly replied,''It's me, Qasim''

Once one of his student asked him why he didn't wear fine clothes like Hazrat Molana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi rh.a. He replied that His nafs e Ammarah was completely subdued and his own nafs wasn't under control.

This is just the examples how Molana Qasim Nanotwi rh.a was humble himself.

Hazrat Molana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi rh.a was also on that level of Taqwa where praise or condemnation doesn't affect the person. He had no vanity, so fine attire couldn't affect him at all.

Hazrat Molana Asharf Ali Thanwi rh.a in one of his book said,'' Put on extremely simple clothes to eliminate your vanity that people begin to think of you a very low level man''.

It's a great Mujahida. Everybody can't follow this suggestion. To eliminate the vanity from our heart and mind is extremely tough.

In one of the book of Hakimul Islam Hazrat Qari Tayyab rh.a, I read: that the elimination of vanity and gaining the level of Istehzar e Ilahi (everytime it's ingrained in our heart and mind that Allah swt is watching ''me'') are the toughest qualities to get, afterwards the level of wilayat starts.

I was discussing with a Barelwi about the issue of takfir against Maulana Qasim Nanotwi and he said that Maulana Ahmad Raza Khan wasn't the first to do it. He also said that not all scholars of Arab retracted their fatwa against Ulama of Deoband. Out of 33, only 2 retracted it. He also said that Maulana Qasim had heretical beliefs which were well-known. He used to change his name while travelling because his works caused such an uproar. He mentioned some 'abtal-e-aghlat-e-Qasimiyya'. And he also sent this screenshot saying that Maulana Qasim's "heretical beliefs" were well-known to Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and many others as well. He also said that a Hanafi mufti Abd ar-Rahman Siraj from Arabia refuted him and this refutation was supported by ulama of all 4 madhahib.
My question is what's the truth in these claims, and how to answer them?
