Imam Muhammad Ibn al-Hasan (رحمه الله) said: "We adhere to this. She should do wudu at the time of each prayer and may pray until the time of the next one, in spite of her continuous flow of blood. It is the verdict of Imam Abu Hanifa (رحمه الله)."

83. Imam Malik (رحمه الله) informed us: "Sumayy (رحمه الله), the mawla of Abu Bakr Ibn 'Abdur Rahman (رحمه الله), informed us, that al-Qa'qaa' Ibn Hakeem (رحمه الله) and Zayd Ibn Aslam (رحمه الله) sent him to Sa'eed Ibn al-Musayyab (رحمه الله) asking about a woman whose bleeding would not stop, 'How should she do ghusl?' Ibn al-Musayyab (رحمه الله) answered, 'She should do ghusl each time she become clean [from her period] and do wudu' for each prayer; and if the blood overwhelms her she should truss herself with a cloth.'"

Imam Muhammad Ibn al-Hasan (رحمه الله) said: "She should do ghusl when the days of her normal period have passed. Then she should do wudu for each prayer, praying until the days of her period come to her, when she should leave the prayer. Then when they have passed she should do ghusl once and thereafter do wudu at each prayer-time, praying until the time of the next one arrivesm as long as she still sees blood. That is the verdict of Imam Abu Hanifa (رحمه الله), and our fuqaha in general."

84. Imam Malik (رحمه الله) informed us: "Hisham Ibn 'Urwah (رحمه الله) informed us that his father (رحمه الله) said, "The woman whose bleeding will not stop has to do ghusl only once, and after that should do wudu' for the prayer.'"

Imam Muhammad Ibn al-Hasan (رحمه الله) said: "We adhere to this; a woman has not become clean whilst she still sees redness or yellowness or a brownish [discharge]; not until she sees pure white. This is the verdict of Imam Abu Hanifa (رحمه الله)."

86. Imam Malik (رحمه الله) informed us: "'Abdullah Ibn Abi Bakr (رحمه الله) informed us from his [paternal] aunt from the daughter of Zayd Ibn Thabit (رضي الله عنه), that she heard that there were some women who would call for lanterns in the middle of the night to see if they were clean, and she would reproach them for that and say, 'Women never used to do this.'"

27. A Man's Doing Ghusl Or Doing Wudu' With Water Left Over By A Woman

89. Imaam Malik (رحمه الله) informed us: "Nafi' (رضي الله عنه) narrated to us from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما), that he said, 'There is no harm in the man's doing ghusl with water left over by a woman who has done wudu, as long as she was not in need of ghusl because of sexual intercourse [junub] or in her period.'"

Imaam Muhammad Ibn al-Hasan (رحمه الله) said: "There is no harm in the water left over by a woman who has done wudu', nor her [surplus] ghusl-water, nor water left after she drinks, even should she be in need of a ghusl because of sexual intercourse or in her period.

It has reached us that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) would do ghusl, he and Ummul Mu'mineen 'Aa'isha (رضي الله عنها), from one pot, drawing from the bath-water together, which itself is the water left over by a woman who is in need of a ghusl because of sexual intercourse.

That is the verdict of Imam Abu Hanifa (رحمه الله)."

28. Doing Wudu' With That From Which A Cat Has Drunk

90. Imam Malik (رحمة اللہ علیه) informed us: "Ishaq Ibn 'Abdullah Ibn Abi Talhah (رحمة اللہ علیه) informed us that his wife, Humaydah bint 'Ubayd Ibn Rifa'ah (رحمة الله عليها) told him, from her [maternal] aunt, Kabshah bint Ka'b ibn Malik (رحمة الله عليها), who was the wife of Ibn Abi Qatadah (رحمة اللہ علیه), that Abu Qatadah (رضي الله عنه) told her to pour his water for him to do wudu and a cat came to drink from it, so he tilted the pot for it and it drank. Kabshah (رحمة الله عليها) said, 'So, he saw me watching him and said, "Are you surprised, neice?"' She said, 'I said, "Yes." He said, "The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, 'It is not impure; it is one of those male and female creatures that come and go around you.'"'"

Imam Muhammad Ibn al-Hasan (رحمة اللہ علیه) said: "There is no harm in doing wudu from the water that remains after a cat has drunk from it, but to use something other than it is preferable to us. That is the verdict of Imam Abu Hanifa (رحمة اللہ علیه)."
