By Shaykh Abdul Majeed

Sheikh will talk about various aspects, namely:

- What the Prophet (may Allah exalt his mention and grant him peace) did on Sha'ban and the night of Bara'ah
- What is Bid'ah
- What is a weak hadith.
-Wrong things done on this night.
-What the classical scholars have said about this occasion.
AND MANY OTHER ASPECTS

assalaamu 'alaykum...this is how i have understood it also..that there is some virtue to this night.

Very good leaflet by Shaykh Mufti Zubair Dudha (Islamic Tarbiyah Academy) - 15th Shaabaan - it is a summery of the book by Shaykhul hadith Mawlana Fazlur Rahmaan sahib.

You gotta admit, those Hindu traditions are so rampant in our lives. Alhumdulillah as time has gone by, we have been able to educate our elders and move away from this.

Partly disagree. I did write a more fuller reply but pressed a button by accident and the text is all gone now ;-(

can probs discuss when i see you. In a nutshell actions speak louder then words i.e. when some sees an action being committed in 99.9% of UK Deo masjids WITHOUT fail for well over 30 years each and every year then they automatically deduce a 'by action' ruling.

Assalaamu 'alaykum
Brother Daywalk3r
Alhamdulillah, in my family's case it was not "by action ruling"...Alhamdulillah we researched through consultation with Ulama and books written by Ulama about both opinions and eventually Alhamdulillah abandoned all which was bid'at while accepting that there was some virtue to the night and therefore not to totally disregard it...wallaahu a'lam

I understand However, the hindu traditions I'm talking about are the ones from the talk above. I agree with Sister Ummi Taalib, AlHumdulillah, by the grace of Allah (Which I forgot to mention earlier) we have gone through the same process. In some cases, certain families have be deobandi for generations, and in some cases like mine, it is only our generation who are deobandi and the parents came from a barelwi background. Hence all the Bid'ah and Hindu traditions. But AlHumdulillah, we have managed to expel the Bewees (Barelwi) from our lives.

sister i respect you for the sake of Allah. Im talking about the practice here in 99.9% of UK Deo masjids. Sisters, no matter how knowledgeable they are and respectable (which mashallah you have abundance in both) simply wont understand the nuances of how our masjids (and local and national Deo leadership) operate internally and within the community... I wont elaborate on this further and leave it at that (which is the same response i give to my own sisters in my family). P.s. to show im not in any way disrespectful to sisters im fully supportive of sisters designated facilities in our masjdis aswell as sisters being on the main masjid management committees

Aby H - As i said i agree in part...Alhumdolillah progress has been made no doubt, albeit at snail pace (in my view), but many light years of fixing still ahead. Inshallah i'll discuss when i see you next time.

W-Salam,

This is the truth that Scholars of Hadeeth are divided upon the “Authenticity of the narrations” so on this one we should be balanced and give the other side (whatever side that may be) their due respect.

BUT

  1. There is no stipulate Dhik'r or Ibaadah on this night so please can do whatever they want
  2. Fast on the next day is not Sunnah

Other then that we should respect difference of opinion and in this case it genuinely exists.

Jazakullah Khairun

agreed on both counts!
My family had books which had all sorts of specific worship for this night which we had checked out and were told none of them had any basis.

My own personal practice is some years i'll do personal individual ibaada at home and some years i'll miss it altogether.....no fixed pattern. Though i think Mufti Farooq (db) from this site is firmly against it fully as was Mufti Yasin (db) previously of this site also - so there is very much a dif of views on the actual significance of the night and fast. Occasionally sometimes i have also fasted but more often i haven't fasted

Wrt each and every UK Deo masjid (Madina masjid in Hackney being the only exception i know of - and sadly many Deos, astagfirullah, hate it for that) having longs talks at the masjid on the 15th night for decades without ever missing it in any year. This is what Mufti Taqi (db) says about the long speeches on the 15th "Some people spend this night in holding religious meetings and delivering long speeches. Such activities are also not advisable, because these acts can easily be performed in other nights. This night requires one to devote himself for the pure acts of worship only."

Asslamo Allaikum,

Most Deobandees in UK are Sufees with not much pedigree in Islamic knowledge so thats why these things happen.

In Tassawuff the sayings and practise of the Shaykh over-rides everything else.

Assalaamu 'alaykum
and here is where we agree to disagree (which is allowed and comendable rather than argue and create bad feelings) because the few "Sufi" deobandees i'm connected to are highly knowledegeable and regarded as authentice scholars of Islam and in the Tasawwuf i know the practise of the shaykh is based on nothing but the Qur'an and Sunnah.
