All reformed brothers/sisters in the world today don't have a peer. A small percentage of spiritually reformed people have peers.
But if someone needs a peer for spiritual reformation, it is a good idea, he can have it.

Simply being reformed/following the right path is one thing. By repenting and staying away from sins a person can somewhat be reformed without the need for a Shaykh. However attaining the stage of Ihsan mentioned in the hadith, which is to worship Allah as if you see Him and if you cannot do that then to know that Allah sees you at all times, well this is a very difficult state to attain. For this a Shaykh of Tasawwuf is needed. This can only be attained by a pure and enlightened heart and the Mashaikh of Tasawwuf are the spiritual doctors of the heart. If you wish to attain such a pure heart to enter into Allahs Divine presence, then go to them. Not just any Shaykh, but a genuine Shaykh who is absorbed in the oceans of Marifah and Ihsan, who is not a slave to his nafs and whose character is the character of Rasulullah sallalalhu alayhi wasallam. Someone who can pass on that nisbat, (unique spiritual connection with Allah ) to you.

And Tasawwuf and shaykh is one of the ways of attaining ihsaan.

The Prophet never instructed or enforced such a concept where someone has to pledge allegiance to particular scholar just to attain a very high level of spirituality. It's no wonder why the Arabis raise an eyebrow at the idea.

How do you explain the other non-Deos/Barelos who have attained such a level without the need of a scholar? Remember we're not talking about getting educated in the field of fiqh (the basics), aqeeda etc. Scholars are there to be our guides, but getting to Al Firdaus is a personal and individualistic journey. Exclusive devotion to a scholar is not a prerequisite.

Tassawwuf works, no doubt. It's a spiritual mechanism for those who're interested or want it - simple. When you it make it out to be more than that your imploding in the territory of bid'ah.

I've passed on it and I'm doing pretty well. :)

The difference is the Deen is clear as to what is required to attain divine salvation and that's not interdependence with a scholar.

Alhamdoolilla there are brothers out there who're engaged in Tassawwuf, but are not offended at the realisation when they witness others who have exceeded them without a scholar.

Regarding Arabs raising eyebrows on tasawwuf. World stopped looking at arabs for deen. "Sahi hadees only" ;and see the mess there. Elsewhere we are watch increase in level of piety. And we watch Arabs falling in piety.

If the kitab was enough for the reformation of people, Allah ta'ala would not have sent his messengers علیهم السلام. One of the objectives of sending Rasulullah صلی الله عليه وسلم was to make tazkiyah of the people.

doing taziyah of people, oh yeah. that speaks volume, he's a prophet of a Allah Azawajal, fast forward 1400 and a bit years, and my akirah or/and to attain true spiritual uplift is conditional or dependent on me giving an oath of allegiance to a doctor scholar.

arabs would say the same thing about the rest of the the ummah considering the amount of innovative practises that're rampant all over the globe, it's all quite clear and visible when you go for umrah or haj.

besides, i was referring to scholars and students of knowledge who're sincere of the deen like any of you and i are.

if tassawwuf was the only way to spiritual enlightenment as it's made out to be by the barelo and deo scholars of today then the ummah would have been practising it since day 1.

Arab world in general is on downward slope, dry salah, fasting etc. can't stop irtidad of Muashirath (social life) which can lead to irtidad of imaan itself. They are looking at the west to move forward. Capitalism has taken over. Here, Reformation of masses is States duty, even if the locals want to do reformation individually or collectively (like the tablighis or sufees); they are taken as threat to state. And state needs money only; hook or crook, capitalism prevails. The who will stop this irtidad.
