The picture..

& the Recipe..

In the Sahi'hain it is narrated that Messenger of Allah Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam said "The Virtue of Aishah (Radi Allaho Anha) as compared to other women, is like the virtue of Thareed as compared to the rest of foods".

Abu Dawood narrated from Ibn Abbas Radi Allaho Anh that he said ""Foods that were most liked & loved by Prophet Muhammad Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam were Thareed made with bread & Thareed of HAIS (dates blended with Saweeq which is Barley's Sattu)".

Thareed is made with meat soup & bread. And among all the breads, the best is barley bread.

Hais is a dessert made with dates..

is thareed a particular type of dish (i.e certain ingredients and method of cooking), or is it a method of eating any soupy dish by combining it with bread?

you know i have always heard in tabligh jamaat that the Prophet (saw) never ate 2 dishes in one sitting, and that rice would be counted as one dish, meat another, veg another etc.

wa Alaikum Assalam w.w..

Its a type of dish.. The Shamail Kubra ( sublime conduct of Nabi (saw) ) mentions on page 119 that ' Tharid is a dish where pieces of bread are soaked in Meat that has been cooked with gravy. this food is easily digested and provides strength to the body.'

Guess what .. even Harisah is mentioned in the Noble Hadith... one of my favourites..

On page 113-114, same book.

Sayyiduna Huzayfah رضي الله عنه narrates that Nabi (saw) said " Jibril (Alaihis salam) gave me Harisah to eat, which strengthens the back for nightly Ibadah" ( Majma, Vo.l.5 P:32)

Note: Harisah is an Arab dish where the chief ingredients are meat and pounded wheat. it resembles 'Halim' and is highly nourishing.

Sayyidah umme Ayyub رضى الله عنها narrates that she used to prepare Harisah for Nabi (saw) . she says that Nabi (saw) was fond of it.

Matr Al Warraq رضى الله عنها narrates that Harisah was prepared for Nabi (saw) whenever he did cupping. (sirat, Vol.7,P:302)

Sayyiduna As'ad Ibn Zurarah رضي الله عنه narrates that on certain nights he would prepare Harisah for Nabi (saw). The nights on which Nabi (saw) anticipated the Harisah, he would enquire from his family, " Has any utensil come from the home of As'ad Ibn Zurarah". If the answer was positive, Nabi (saw) would ask them to give it to him. This indicates that Nabi (saw) was fond of it. (Sirat, Vo.l.7, P:302)

wa Assalam..
