السلام عليكم

Are flu tablets halal and if so then which ones ?

I hear that the capsule that they are in are made of gelatine, I always assumed this was cow gelatine however I'm being told it could even be pig gelatine.

Not sure if it will be of any benefit, but there's some mention of gelatine capsules on following link on last page of vaccination thread...

Mainly br.xs11ax post..

All medicinal capsules are derived from gelatine, which could be from any animal, including cow or a pig.

Other capsules are derived from potato starch, but these are mainly used in herbal or alternative medicine, but only the ones that state...suitable for vegetarians.

Title: Is it permissible consume gelatine capsules?
Question

I would just like to know the ruling regarding the use of gelatin capsules. I am currently interested in purchasing a supplement, that consumes of gelatin capsules. However gelatin is haram. My question is would it be permissible to pour out the contents from inside of the gelatin capsules and then consume it , and then discard of the gelatin capsules ?

Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu 'alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is not permissible to use gelatine capsules as a supplement. While one may empty the medicine in the capsule and use it directly, it is also important to consider whether the contents of the medicine are halal or not.
Furthermore, it is advisable to seek the consent of your doctor before consuming the medicine directly which was taken out of the capsule.

Its a shame that the above is based on a supplement rather than an actual medical capsule.

Holland & Barretts state on their capsules whether they contain pork gelatine, fish gelatine or gelatine. They also do Vegan capsules. Theres plenty of similar questions on this topic and it would be great to get a detailed answer once and for all.

But of course, Holland and Barrett aren't a pharmacy!

  1. Title of the thread is about "tablets"
  2. Then he starts talking about "capsules"
  3. The discussion is around Flu to which there is no cure...

You know what, Alhumdulillah, brother Jinn will just laugh it off and not go off in a tangent like others would. Genuine mistake that everyone makes. (plus the thread is on the light side)
