Don't get me wrong guys, I understand what you're saying.

But compare new years resolutions to the famous Hadith of intentions!

Had this thread been started in Muharram, then maybe, we would have a different approach. But to this this on the Gregorian calendar is the issue.

ACTIONS ARE ACCORDING TO INTENTIONS, EACH MAN SHALL HAVE WHAT HE INTENDED.

So why use Gregorian calendar and kuffar methods. They are not our teachers, we are their teachers.

I wasn't born on the Deen, I spent most of my life away from it on and off, but I certainly didn't let the kuffar influence me. InshaAllah, all I intended to do was make us aware of the above sentence.

And that you have done brilliantly, masha'Allah. JazakAllah khayran!

We can ignore the date insha'Allah. I certainly am not thinking of new years eventhough people around me are in a mad rush trying to get things coordinated, making du'aas for a good year in 2014 etc. May Allah Ta'aala accept the du'aas and grant us all hidayah and understanding. Ameen.

What i want to achieve by the end of 2014( Btw some i have listed here is long term):

- Gain more knowledge about the deen
- Complete the seerah series and even if it was one try to implent some of the qualities of RasullAllah (SAW) e.g being honest etc etc
- Find righteous company
-Involve in more ibadah
-Get a habit of reading the Quran
- Not wasting anytime
- Have the ability to give dawah to family and friends
- Never stop making dua
- Increase Dhikr
-Making a habit of sending salawat to RasulAllah (SAW)
-Exercising Sabr
- Try to reduce sins as much as i can

Lastly and foremost: Allways give shukr to Allah Ta'ala for everything, even it was a small thing. Even if a calamity i want to have the ability to say Alhamdulillah and accept it :)

From resolution to celebration.

See what happens when the kuffar become the teachers of the Muslims and our nation's.

That's why in the op I said lets take the good and leave the bad.

There is no harm in making intentions, in fact it's a good thing.

New Year must not be celebrated and its Resolution must not be followed by muslims as there are some worst effects
1. Suppose if you are engaged in Zina on 20 December; if you take resolution to quit Zina by Jan 1st. You will engage in more zinas till you quit also we dont know if our death is before Jan 1.
2. Procrastination develops, whereas for us its immediate sincere Tawbah.

No one here is celebrating the new year, the thread has been opened with a short clip taken from a lecture. Please don't jump to conclusions without listening and reading the work of authentic ulama on this thread. Yes it's correct to say our intentions to do good should be there at all times, one should grab any and every opportunity to make intention and act upon good.

respected Sister,
My view is general for Muslims who celebrate or mark Jan 1st as resolution date. I never jumped into conclusions and also I never pointed anyone.

Making intention is good(one of the 6 qualities that were common in Sahabas). We must do it everyday not on one day - that was my point.

Did you read the thread ?

What's wrong with marking a certain day with intention ? Better than no intention at all eh. How do you know that day even if he didn't live till it won't be accepted in the eyes of Allah ?

Indeed we need to do taubah everyday, but this thread is not related to new year or taubah, its just for self analysing and setting objectives that have to be achieve InshaaAllah.
