New £1m Aberdeen mosque design unveiled by Makespace

The mosque is designed to hold a capacity of 1,000 worshippers

The design of a £1m mosque and community centre in Aberdeen has been released.

Planning permission for the Makespace-designed building on Nelson Street was granted in June this year.

There are believed to be about 4,000 Muslims in Aberdeen, and the city's two existing mosques are regularly full to capacity.

Work on the new project - designed to hold a capacity of 1,000 worshippers - is set to start early next year.

The purpose of a Mosque (in our lands) should be to set it apart for people to look at it and be reminded of Islam. Design should be a Dawah tool.

Considering low costs and expenses in Aberdeen this is expensive and looks like a bad shoebox!  Pakistani community in Aberdeen is super-rich so this is some Dr Saheb's "figment" of imagination!!!

There is no legislation against Minarets in UK but due to soft underpinnings (ground conditions), the tower is usually built from concrete but the Minaret is pre-fabricated and then lifted (and bolted) on top of the base. The Sikhs who have a dome styled construction to their places of worship don’t have Minarets but don’t use prefabricated material and actually carve out the whole piece in concrete.

Sikh places of worship are legislated (in their religion) to look like this so they have to spend the money.

I don't have a problem with saving money and not adding domes/minarets but the structure can be made to look like a Masjid at least!

I may be wrong but I don't think that Minarets will be disallowed in UK as they will find an exemption for a Mosque. Cost wise a dome may be cheaper because its hollow and easier to fabricate.
