this is femininity and vanity?

and this is also femininity and vanity?

and this is not femininity and vanity?

even though this serves the purpose of a watch better than the one above?

If I am a millionaire and I spend 2700 on a Rolex how is that vanity (according to my standards)? But if I get a cheap Casio then its against the Hadeeth because I am being stingy...

There are two main points to bear in mind:

When one is blessed with wealth by Allah سبحانه وتعالى it is incorrect to be either niggardly or stingy when spending, this must show in the way you live and the way you dress....I.e. it would be incorrect to wear worn out and tatty clothes....live under such circumstances, whereby utilizing broken or uncomfortable worn out beds etc.

The other point is spending within ones means, and not spending excessively in a way that your unable to therefore afford other basic essentials and necessities, causing difficulties upon oneself and any dependants.

because you would be buying it for decoration/name/price tag and not for time keeping as a cheap digital watch is much better at that then any expensive analogue watch.

i have no idea, shaikh. i am not judging anyone's intentions. i am just saying what i think. i might be wrong and by engaging in this discussion i might change my mind. but as it stands, i feel that buying expensive watches which are actually inferior at keeping time than cheap digital watches seems like vanity to me, which in turn is a trait of femininity.

Brother to state vanity is a trait of femininity, is gravely incorrect, and an incorrect personal judgement.

We clutch a fist-full of money so it is hard to imagine the state of affairs of the heart if there was so much that we could barely walk from the weight of gold, silver, diamonds and other precious stones around our neck, ears and arms. It literally feels liberating not to have these things and perhaps that greedy grip on a few coins would extend further if there was more... but if a spouse is particularly fond of seeing their loved one adorned, insha'Allah, because Allah Ta'aala permits it and the intention is private between spouses, insha'Allah that would be well received by the other spouse and insha'Allah there would be barakah in their home and all they do. [The 'we' here is really an 'I']

Just to clarify, this is my personal preference and choice and I do not pass judgment on anyone who wears a Rolex or drives a Viper or sports an iPad or HCT or won't leave home without RayBan or whatever else the person prefers. I'm just grateful to Allah Ta'aala that my eyes aren't on these things (at least not in a strong, desirous way) because I really don't know if I could handle them and I don't want to find out.

Comments I made earlier on this topic were either in jest or to highlight the way many men think about women when their condition is really no different (and in some cases possibly worse).

Well, I'm not disputing this. I meant HTC or whatever it is... that phone, you know the smart one? And what's wrong with a viper, its not a spaghetti?
