Huge magnitude 8.0 earthquake prompts warning for all of Latin America's Pacific Coast.
A massive magnitude 8.0 earthquake off the coast of Chile, near the mining port of Iquique, has sparked a tsunami warning for all of Latin America's Pacific coast, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
"An earthquake of this size has the potential to generate a destructive tsunami that can strike coastlines near the epicenter within minutes and more distant coastlines within hours," it said.
Chile immediately requested the "preventive evacuation" of its northern coastline, the country's ONEMI emergency office said on its website.
The earthquake hit an area that has been rocked by numerous quakes over the past two weeks.
Al Jazeera's Lucia Newman, reporting from the Chilean capital Santiago, said there was no information about any casualties or any damage.
"What we've been seeing on national TV is people running from the beach," Newman said. "They've been warned about a tsunami. That's the biggest concern for now."
Cars fleeing, buildings shaking
Live footage from Chilean television showed scores of cars driving away from the coastline at high speed and state television also broadcast viewer footage of the insides of buildings shaking as the earthquake struck.
The US Geological Survey said the quake was very shallow, only 10 km below the seabed. It was centered 86 km northwest of Iquique, Chile's main mining export port, Reuters news agency reported.
Rafeal Abreu, a geophycisist from the US Geological Survey, told Al Jazeera that shallow earthquakes are more likely to cause tsunamis and to generate significant ground shaking.
"This is an area that had been experiencing increased seismic activity," Abreu said. "They had been paying attention to it ... Beyond that, we don't have any information on what measures have been taken."
The strongest earthquake ever recorded on Earth also happened in Chile - a magnitude-9.5 tremor in 1960 that killed more than 5,000 people. (Al Jazeera)
That's quite strange you don't like kids.
You should love kids. They're innocent creatures of Allah and great blessings.
what's the reason you don't like them? Do they disrespect towards you?
You should treat them well. kids tend to show more love and respect towards those who love them. You could buy sweets for them to get them closer.
I absolutely love my baby niece sooo much. I love kids (infants and kids of 6/ 7/ 8 year-old) and they love me as well. Great fun to play with them, so inspiring and innocent.
Babies are so innocent and cute that our hearts go out to them at once! Some people have stone hearts that don't melt with a little child's laughter or when the child holds your hands.
You are normal.
If you see a grown up person being cozy with kids be on alert even if the grown up person is very close to you.
Hazrat Qari Amir Hasan Sahab (RA) used to say that to cheat or get cheated is not for a believer. The latter part is slightly on the border but we do get the drift.

Japanese students ranked third in problem-solving ability as part of testing of the academic competencies of 15-year-olds in 44 countries and regions in 2012, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said on April 1.
The assessment, an optional portion of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), also showed that Japanese participants had the second-lowest proportion of students whose performance fell in the lowest level.
Tetsuya Kishimoto, an official at the education ministry's Elementary and Secondary Education Bureau, praised Japanese students' performance as "good."
He said that efforts to foster students' applied skills through the implementation of the ministry's curriculum guidelines, the spread of competency-based education and similar testing in nationwide surveys on academic performance helped Japanese students place high among their peers.
About 85,000 students took the optional creative problem-solving assessment of the PISA, including about 6,300 Japanese students from 181 randomly selected schools. The test examines students' ability to apply their knowledge and skills to solve intricate problems that differ from what they study in the classroom.
Students from Singapore and South Korea ranked first and second in problem-solving ability, with an average score of 562 points and 561 points, respectively. Japanese students scored 552 points, followed by pupils from Macao and Hong Kong with 540 points each.
Students in England, representing Britain, ranked 11th with 517 points, while students from the United States ranked 18th with 508 points.
The 2012 PISA, involving about 510,000 students from 65 countries and regions, marked the fifth conducted since 2000. It utilizes computer-based testing, which started in 2009, as well as other testing in the areas of reading, mathematics and science and assesses how students put their knowledge and skills to practical use.
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
