I may be wrong.

But I remember hearing it somewhere, possibly Shafi' Madhab.

I remember it because someone joked about picking and choosing on this matter.

But I may be wrong.

Even if a person is not obliged by the shariah, its a minimum courtesy to inform one's wife about second marriage.
Will a husband buy a car without discussing with his wife? No. Anyone in their right mind will discuss it with the wife even though he is not obliged. Otherwise its rude. Similarly something important such as a second wife should be discussed rather than doing it secretly.

State of affairs where I am currently.

The lights go in Karachi (in our area at least) between 11am - 1.30pm, 3pm - 6pm and 8pm - 11pm everyday. So during the day we hardly have any electricity but luckily they stay on all nite. I ended up buyinga generator just so that we don't roast and dehydrate.

Also, another issue is that the internet supplier's lights go at different times too, so it's really hard. But since we are still sleeping according to UK time, it suits us well.

Just in case your wondering, I'm not Pakistani, the Mrs is.

Islamic books in Karachi are pretty inexpensive. There is darul uloom karachi in korangi. In Defence area there is Fahmedeen Maktab. ( near bait Us Salam Musjid ) www.fahmedeen.org

( from Maghrib to Esha Imam Sahab of Musjid ^ does Bayan (urdu), very good Bayan, must attend)

In Karachi, go to zamzam publisher's bookstore in the Urdu bazzar for Islamic books in English.

Watch out for thieves, though...

I don't know for sure but I'd like to get my hands on a lot of their books.

We get the newly translated books like a half a year later in the US...

True bro sulaiman. Even the UK has this issue. Bro sulaiman maybe we should start a post on good islamic bookstores. There is definitely huge potential in this regard.
