Please pay attention to my query

(salaam)

Today during discussion with a brother about Umrah, I just started to say that I didn't like Saudi Arabia's activities because they indulged themselves in extravagance, they follow commands of USA etc. He responded in the way as if I was saying "does Allaah really exist?" type of thing. He instantly said that Rasulullaah (saw) forbade to speak ill of Arabs and terminated the whole discussion.

Definitely there are some Ahadith on the virtues of Arabs. My questions are-

- What are real explanations of these Ahadith? (Because superiority on the basis of race/tribe/nation isn't what Islam teaches, I guess.)

- In Ahadith what was meant by "Arab"? Does it mean people of the whole Arabian peninsula? Or Saudi Arabia only?

- Is it a great sin to criticize their activities (which are contradictory to Islam)?

- Is there really such superiority of them over other nations because they are "people of Prophet's country?"

- Is there any scholarly article on this issue?

Asslamo Allaikum,

There is no verse of the Qur'aan or Authentic Hadeeth where Arabs are declared superior to Non-Arabs based mainly on lineage (alone).

There is a verse and Authentic Hadeeth which states the opposite i.e. superiority is based on Taqwa.

This Hadeeth is under the chapter heading the superiority of lineage of Nabi (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) which is true but it doesn't imply that Arabs are superior to Non-Arabs.

I don't know why people consider blasphemy they need to provide evidence for their stance.

Hazrat, can you please do me a favour? If you can provide a balanced article or discuss this matter yourself, that will be very helpful. I'm searching for it, but some problematic sites are popping up.

Can't help, bhai. But I've noticed this too. If you generalize or criticize Saudis, many Desi brothers won't tolerate it because "we should have respect for Arabs" and "they're the country with the most Shariah". Talk the same way about any other Muslim community and it's fine.

Afghanistan has more sharia than Saudi.

At least I wish if someone could provide me all Ahadith related to virtues of Arabs. Then we could scrutinize those with Ulama's assistance. Here are some I've found from "Muntakhab Ahadith":

1. Sa'd رضي الله عنه narrates that Rasulullaah (saw) said: No one who intends evil for the people of Madinah except that Allaah will melt him in the fire, like the melting of lead or the dissolving of salt in water. (Muslim)

2. Jabir ibn 'Abdullaah رضي الله عنهما narrates: I heard Rasulullaah (saw) saying, He who frightens the residents of Madinah, frightens me. (Musnad Ahmad, Majma-'uz-Zawaid)

3. 'Abdullaah ibn 'Umar رضي الله عنهما narrates that Rasulullaah (saw) said: He who can die in Madinah let him die there; verily I shall intercede for those who die there (and are buried there). (Ibn Hibban)

4. Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrates that Rasulullaah (saw) said: No one amongst my Ummah who will endure the hardship and rigour of Madinah, without my being an intercessor or witness on his behalf on the Day of Resurrection. (Muslim)

The publishers are Darus Salam so better to avoid. You can search sf threads to get more details...

I've written something somewhere regarding Dr Muhsin Khan and his works. I can't remember where, probably somewhere in the true Salaf section about Imam Abu Hanifa and the Persians.

Basically, best avoided.

Abdul-Malik Mujahid (founder of Darus-Salam) is known to us through some family members and their Head-Quarter shop in Riyadh (Saudia) was near my house and I used to visit them a lot.

Basically they are "Ahl-e-Hadeeth" but mild and not as bad as some of the others one, nevertheless they are "Ahl-e-Hadeeth"

Interesting this is I randomly stumbled across this book on Al-Azhar's website today as well.

Previously I had always assumed that Al-Azhar do not stock books of others, I guess this may be a slight glitch ?

I know other book shops such as Kitaabun etc stock books from everywhere.
