I just sent an email from a different phone not realising the spelling and sent it.

When I got a simple reply for a long email, I thought let me see what I wrote.

I was so embarrassed.

Please be very careful.

For those who have an auto correct setting and have Irfaan as a brother, please be careful.

Jazakallahu-khair.

I think this is actually quite important.

Always read your own text, email, post, messages in general. I have a habit of typing and sending instantly and so many times I've sounded like I hit my head or something. It's also important because leaving out a single word like "not" can make all the difference in the world and can mislead, be misunderstood or can cause unwanted issues.

So I'm glad you posted this. Jazakallah

It's so true, I replied to a comment once and did exactly what you've mentioned above.

My reply was "Allah is my witness, I am a scholar, I only....."

When I got my reply, I thought the guy must be stupid or he can't read. I wrote a full response regarding his capacity and understanding then o looked back at we had both written, only to find my error. I deleted my whole reply and apologized then added the "NOT" in capital letters.

Imagine writing an article and saying something totally Haram that could take you out of Islam. One could accidentally write "Jesus is NOT the son of god, and I testify to this"

Now imagine I left out the word NOT here.

Muslim names is a classic. Especially if you are using a smart phone.

I got an email from a brother of this site who wrote Maulana Yasmin as an auto correct.

I have managed to save the names as I go along so I don't make that error again. (but when I changed my handset, innalillahe wa innailayhe rajeoon.)

It won't take a genius to figure out what the name was meant to be. Good thread

Which name, I'm assuming you mean Yasmin to be Yasmin.

More dangerous is "Irfaan".

Spellchecker is really handy for quick messaging but can also be a nightmare, especially once you've already sent a message without it being proof read, I've read some messages back later on to find that I've sent total nonsense.

I always turn off the auto correct option. Especially since I type a lot of the msgs in my mother tongue.

There are some really hilarious Typo's.

Fortunately they wont be posted here.

I must admit though, I've only had these issues with the iPhone. On the HTC, my personal dictionary syncs automatically so I don't really need to worry about it.

But yes native words must be added in for the first time, after that it should be fine.

A conversation between myself and a client who also happens to be a Bollywood celebrity. (In case you see it posted somewhere else too)

Just as well I spotted it in time. Had it been WhatsApp or something, I could've deleted it but this was an sms. I wish I'd take my advice all the time :( check and send, don't be over confident

Fortunately I got a call back to confirm everything.

Imagine I didn't spot it! That would be really funny yet scary for the client.
